Re: MX14Beta1 now Beta2

..and MX-14.2 was released. I'm using it now as my default linux system. It's quick, ultra-stable: clean, lean and mean. I quit using SolydX/K altogether a couple of months ago (I got really fed up with the problems associated with the quarterly UPs, but I intend to give th new SolydX/K-BE 32bit .is...

Code: Select all

.... Single click installs from web pages would be a big step forward IMHO.
I'm glad there are other means of installing stuff in linux than dumb-clicking on binary executables of sometines questionnable or unknown origins.

Re: Installing Chrome in Linux vs Windows

No, once you have downloaded and installed Chrome (with gdebi or dpkg -i <name-of-chrome>.deb a repo-list for Chrome is created and added to your sources.list (actually in etc/apt/sources.d/ ). As soon as a newer Chrome version hits that Chrome repo you're ready to upgrade. Or not. And you'll be abl...

Re: Installing Chrome in Linux vs Windows

it's very simple to do (in debian distros). If you really want Chrome in your debian linux (I use Chromium) just add the following line into /etc/apt/sources.list : Note: for SolydXK Home editions replace 'stable' with 'testing'. Then refresh in Synaptic and install Chrome like any other package. de...

Re: Software manager works ugly

I never used Software Manager in SolyDXK, so I'm not even aware of this indicated _grave_ shortcoming. I use synaptic or the terminal. I do believe that it is much better to inform new users on how to use Synaptic properly and to point out to them to use its simulation features before actually commi...

Re: The end of WinXP = missed opportunities

Mass acceptance of "Linux on the Desktop" is a fantasy. It is a dead duck, as far as I am concerned. The only way to get mass acceptance [in say 10-15 years] is putting simple computers preloaded with free linux distribution(s) in front of the kids in school, in their formative years. Expose them to...

You need more than the broadcom-sta-dkms package. Have look here for your Broadcom 4321 device:

OK - I just downloaded the spreadsheet. First tab provides the UM-method and terminal method of installing. However, UM failed (again) and I continued with Synaptic (although I used the terminal the previous UP's (dec/jan). I don't think I can use this template now... Count me out from UP-testing th...

Re: What tells you the seasons have changed?

After a rather 'warm' and snow-free winter, with maybe 3-4 times sub-zero (-1 to -3 Celsius) temperatures early in the morning, followed by a rather dry and warm March there is no clear point where ' Spring arrived' - except in the signs that Mother Nature delivers. Yes, spring has arrived. Today wa...

Re: Unable to mount ntfs partition

I have installed disk-manager in SolydK. Install it and run it - you can configure access to local partitions, including ntfs partitions. You'll be able to set read/write access to any ntfs partitions, even automatically mount them at boottime.
