Re: [HOWTO] Create a Razor-Qt DE + build/install 3rd party a

Mint! I guess some configs were borrowed from there, but are you talking of Debian or Solyd? It's most likely an old config solyd took from mint. I've searched debian (https://packages.debian.org/file:mailname) and /var/lib/dpkg/*.list, and can't see what's responsible for creating the file in the ...

Re: [HOWTO] Create a Razor-Qt DE + build/install 3rd party a

Only because we love Debian, because we never mock or ridicule it, because we never suggest that it is anything other than... seriously, who am I kidding? Why does dh_make use mint as the email address? Quoting the debian wiki completely out of context: The File /etc/mailname is used by the MTA pack...

Version Control. For Debian's current policy on version control, see 5.6.12 Version In general, the version number of a package is: [epoch:]upstream_version[-debian_revision] If, for example, we use git to clone a package $ git clone 'https://github.com/qterminal/qtermwidget.git' Cloning into 'qter...

Re: [HOWTO] Create a Razor-Qt DE + build/install 3rd party a

One question. When building qtermwidget and q terminal I got stuck at this step qtermwidget # mv qtermwidget qtermwidget-0.4.0 Trying to figure out the current version is one of my (many) pet peeves about git. After git clone, I usually do $ find . -not -type d | xargs grep VERSION and look at the ...

Re: [HOWTO] Create a Razor-Qt DE + build/install 3rd party a

Hey guys, So, I go on holiday for 10 weeks, and miss a new post by two days :o  Thanks for the very kind comments but, while I would have liked to continue with the whole razor/lx/qt thing, I got severely depressed with the state of debian and solyd in general. Indeed, I've only come back to t...

Re: What to do when debian testing migration stalls?

a couple considerations According to Debian, it's 2.1.9-1 which is two year's old. you are referring to the information here http://packages.qa.debian.org/a/aegisub.html stable as in debian stable (wheezy); it lists the available versions of the package in each debian release. === 1. no, not simple...

What to do when debian testing migration stalls?

As end-users, we know we're always going to get stuck with packages that are not up-to-date most of the time. I know there has to be a cut-off point somewhere, so waiting 4 months for a security update is normal. But, what can we do when a package gets stuck in testing migration ? Usually, there's a...

Re: Removing unused kernels

Here's a quick and nasty variation on Schoelje's script to remove all but the active kernel and associated packages. It depends on $(uname -r) to return the currently active kernel release in the format major.minor-sub-*, e.g. 3.10-3-686-pae, and some bash tricks I haven't used before 8-) *** USE AT...

Re: Removing unused kernels

The script was never tested with PAE, only for the ISOs. If you can improve the script to use with PAE, please do. Yeah, that occurred to me afterwards  I was actually looking for the longer script that removes kernels, orphaned packages, and configuration files. I remember using it months ag...

Re: Removing unused kernels

This is an old thread, but today I found out there is a possibility to have a discrepancy in output between dpkg and apt. Now that even UM is all apt, the script we use in solydxk-constructor to remove old kernels needs adapting as well. Here it is: #!/bin/bash # Remove old kernel and headers VERSI...

Re: Why not going beyond X and K?

For those of us who consider both kde and gnome inherently flawed, finding a suitable distribution is quite a task. The advantage Solyd has begins with its founders and is complemented by the community of users. Solyd provides a base to build on. Realizing that SolydX will become harder to manage (f...

[solved] revert mencoder

Hi, I'm trying to transcode video using mencoder for the first time since the November UP, when mencoder was "upgraded" , and I'm getting the following errors $ nice mencoder in.mkv -o out.mkv -noautosub -nosound -ovc x264 -x264encopts tune=animation:pass=1 . . . Opening video decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmp...

Creating a Simple Local Repository

Creating a Simple Local Repository So far, we've only built a handful of packages; everything else has come from the Solyd repositories. Local builds can be kept anywhere -- we've left ours in the BUILD tree. Trying to think logically, it makes more sense to keep them in a directory tree where we c...

Of course, the real test will be when it breaks a dist-upgrade :ugeek: Still, it's all good fun 8-) That's the spirit! :D And coming to a HOWTO very soon  To paraphrase William Gibson, When I want to know how something works, I study it when it's coming apart. Building and Installing transparency

Building and Installing transparency Last time, we'd just finished building taskbar. Except, in reality, there were a few other things in between: a few package installs and purges for other things, forward-testing that the DM we want to use instead of LIghtDm works (who knows?), that it builds eas...

Building and Installing taskbar

Building and Installing taskbar Hugo Pereira has a very useful collection of utilities based on (or, off of for you Americans, :sigh:) the Qt toolkit. We're going to build and install some of these in a while. But, first, we're going to make use of another bash trick, and tidy up a bit. In my case,...

Re: Creating a local repository

If you have to maintain a lot of packages, making your own (local) repository comes in handy. You will always know that the latest version is in the repository. However, it is not the default behavior to keep all versions (I do not). reprepro is what I'm using, but I have to say: the learning curve...

Re: [HOWTO] Create a Razor-Qt DE + build/install 3rd party a

Just today, That was quick. Or rather, perfect timing. The index shows that there were some other updates today, most notably the Debian Reference and the Users' guide. Eleven updates today, and sixteen this year. Good to see that happening. Someday, there'll have to be a debian suppository guide t...
