The upcoming SolydXK transfer to Debian stable

When SolydXK aligns with Debian stable (the Jesse freeze) will I have to reintall my SolydK occasionally (like with Linux Mint and their LongTerm releases) or will the upgrades continue to be "rolling" without need of a reinstall? I'm confused :?: I initially switched to Solyd to avoid the occasiona...

Re: Could Plymouth affect my back-lit keyboard? (SOLVED)

Fixed my problem... I found some info in the Ubuntu forums under this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1533744&s=86ee8102fccd1f37cb3e6a0a15c074b7 For some oddball reason (some people in the Ubuntu forum say ACPI but whatever it seems to be a Toshiba Satellite thing) the backlit keybo...

[SOLVED] Could Plymouth affect my back-lit keyboard?

Okay I admit it, I was playing around with Plymouth to see what the other themes looked like when I noticed my keyboard on my Toshiba Satellite P855 laptop (with Intel video) was no longer lighting whenever I touched a key. I had the same problem last spring when I tried Ubuntu & Windows 8 in a dual...

Re: Try SolydK.. best advice I ever received in the Mint For

Got that $ chore taken care of...sorry to hear about your problems Orbmiser & Fleabus. I've had one heart attack already but I still have about 17 months for Uncle Sam will let me retire. But with one in college and two more behind him I don't see retirement in my near future unless my health dictat...

Re: Is there a dock that does not risk future SolydXK instab

Thanks, I beleive Whisker is in Mint also. I'll give it a try but I'm leaning towards converting to SolydK on both my laptops. KDE is my favorite desktop enviroment and I can make one a "test" machine. I'm hopng to decide over the coming week whether to go all KDE or keep both flavors of Solyd. It m...

Re: Can't install some software with SolydX software manager

Thanks for your responses, Zerozero, I never could get Cairo to install via the software manager. I tried numerous times (about 10) with the same result...no install occurs. I'll try to install it via command line if you still want the output, I believe this SolydX machine is going to be converted t...

Is there a dock that does not risk future SolydXK instabili

Howdy y'all, I have a question about finding a dock (or launcher) for SolydXK that would not imperil the future stability of my installation. Earlier I posted a question in the newbies section about Conky Dock not installing properly. Zerozero was gracious enough to address my problem ( :) thanks!) ...

Re: Try SolydK.. best advice I ever received in the Mint For

Thank you Schoelje, I just watched the linked video regarding MS Office, I think I will attempt the install. But I also need to tweak my all-in-one printer, scanner, copier drivers to enable my ability to scan using SolydK (or SolydX) and then I'll toss my Windows Vista install disk in the trash! I'...

Try SolydK.. best advice I ever received in the Mint Forum

Greetings to all, I discovered SolydK while perusing the Linux Mint forums, I'm glad I did! :D The complaint I had with my Mint system was the frequent complete re-installls that were recommended. When I first started testing SolydK my youngest son (14 years old) liked it so much went back to his ro...

Re: Can't install some software with SolydX software manager

Thank-you, I can get along without it. I guess I'll remove it from my SolydK machine also...I left Mint for Solyd's stability & method of upgrading and I don't want to cause possible future problems. If I can do without Mint's MDM login screens (I admit I did like the eye-candy), I can certainly lea...

Can't install some software with SolydX software manager

Howdy, I just installed SolydX on my Toshiba Satellite A215 with AMD Turion64x2 processor & 2 GB RAM. :D I already have SolydK on my newer (and more powerful) laptop and I really like having Cairo Dock available. When I attempted to install Cairo Dock on my SolydX machine the software manager proces...

(SOLVED) Re: Software manager doesn't need password?

Greetings, When I receive my first 'Software Manager' password prompt there is a box checked that says "remember password" and another box that says "for this session only" that is also checked by default. These two default settings caused the password issue, there is also a box tht was not checked ...

Re: Software manager doesn't need password?

I've just decided to reinstall SolydK (it's only an 18 hour old install, nowhere near fleshed out and customized). I'll treat this first attempt as a learning experience, and I think I'll delete the "/boot" partition and merge the space into the "/" partition since I'm only running one OS on this la...

Re: Software manager doesn't need password?

Ahoy (a little nautical lingo for howdy), I just tried again and have discovered that it will ask for the password for the software manager the first time I open it in a new logon session and the rest of that session the password appears to be cached somewhere(?). Don't know if that helps but I can ...

Re: Changing Mint KDE for Solyd K, encrypted home partition?

Thanks for yor assistance, lost the whole encrypted partition but saved all of my files such as documents, pictures, downloads on a separate drive first. I just installed SolydK on manually set up partitions (/boot, /, /home, and /swap). Now I'm just trying to adjust from Mint KDE to SolydK (I never...

Re: Software manager doesn't need password?

I entered the commands you requested: apt search ^live | grep ^i This should not return anything. Did not return anything ls -al /etc/live This directory shouldn't even exist, and throw an error because of that. Returned with this: total 20 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 12 18:50 . drwxr-xr-x 148 r...

Re: Software manager doesn't need password?

I installed SolydK on the hard drive which is partitioned into: boot, /, home, swap. I'm not sure if I needed the boot parition but it was already set up when I installed and I just left it in place.

Thank you,

[SOLVED] Software manager doesn't need password?

I just installed SolydK today after I unsuccessfully attempted to upgrade to the Mint KDE 16 RC and I could not save my encrypted home partition. Changing Mint KDE for Solyd K, encrypted home partition?

Ahoy (that's nautical lingo for Howdy!), I'm a noobie getting ready to install SolydK on my Toshiba Sattelite laptop after using (& loving) Mint KDE for about 4 months. I want to try the rolling debian updates instead of performing the total re-installs for Mint. Mint KDE allowed me to encrypt my ho...
