Re: Shutdown reboot not working from XFCE menu

Hi, I have found a workaround to shutdown (or reboot) the PC: XFCE-Menu > Changes User > Shutdown Please check the attached screenshot for details. Therefore I think there's no general error with the system, but this specific error with XFCE-Menu > Logout (see screenshot). What I understand is that ...

Shutdown reboot not working from XFCE menu

Hi,
since upgrade to Debian Buster I cannot shutdown / reboot the system from XFCE menu.
This means after pressing the relevant button nothing happens.

When I try to shutdown / reboot one more time, I get this error (see attachment).

Please advise how to fix this error.

Re: [Q] Unattended upgrades - how to setup automatic install

Take a look at this: https://wiki.debian.org/UnattendedUpgrades Note that by editing a file that belongs to a package (02solydxk-periodic), it will be overwritten when that package is upgraded. Instead, create a new file with the custom settings. You are certainly right, and therefore I have config...

[Q] Unattended upgrades - how to setup automatic install?

Hi! I have installed a current version of SolydX 32-bit (solydx32_201503.iso). This is a multi-user installation, but the administrator is not working regularly with it. Therefore I want to configure Unattended upgrades of security packages. Afaik there are 2 potential packages supporting this featu...

Re: HE to Jessie upgrade

Confirmed... I have the same files in /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/ plus the recently created 98-usershutdown.pkla. The content of files 90-configure-printers.pkla 99-mount-partitions.pkla is the same. There's a question regarding 99-mount-partitions.pkla though: Identity=unix-group:users...

Update: I fixed the issue with shutdown / reboot executed by unprivileged user. The issue is related to PolicyKit Local Authority, and in this case to file /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.login1.policy The attached screenshot document the root cause. I created the following file to adap...

Re: root authorization required for shutdown, scanner, VPN,

Well... I agree that this could be related to Jessie, however comparable issues occured with previous debian-based releases, too. I'm convident that the root cause is related to PolicyKit Local Authority that is documented here http://www.freedesktop.org/software/polkit/docs/0.105/pklocalauthority.8...

Thanks for your reply.
How can I check udev / systemd automount?
What config files should be verified?

Update:
As a workaround I have deinstalled lightdm and replaced it with package nodm.
This is a single user desktop PC and I can accept this workaround as a final solution.

Re: [P] Lightdm fails to start after upgrade

Hi! I'm using a very old graphic card and therefore I'm depending on the Nouveau driver. This means there's no need to investigate further for issues related to Nvidia. Independant of this I manage to run script "pre-up-2014.10.15" and completed sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade . Furth...

Re: [Solved] System boot hangs on old hardware

Hello! I managed to boot from LiveCD using the "nomodeset" boot option. The installation runs smooth without issues. However, I get I low resolution 1024x768 and cannot change this. Disabling the "nomodeset" option leads to a system freeze. Obviously the kernel modules for the AGP are not loaded. Ho...

Re: [P] System boots only with boot option "nomodeset"

I cannot start LiveCD w/o "nomodeset" either. On Debian-Wiki pages (https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers) you find the following statement: "The 71.86.xx driver - supporting NVIDIA NV4/NV5/NV6/NV10/NV15 GPUs and variants - is not available, as this does not support Xorg X server versions la...
