Re: Solydk Laptop Install - Best Practice???

Slightly off-topic but relevant I think .... I've been hit or miss with Asus laptops. My current one - the video card is flakey; went bad about 2 years after I bought. My son bought a Sager about 3 years ago. That thing is near bullet-proof - if a bit heavy (it has a desktop i7 in it, but he bought...

Re: Solydk Laptop Install - Best Practice???

Awesome - thanks!!!! I like the clean Solydk approach (thanks for the info on Redo Backup) and have never been a fan of dual boot. I think i'll forego screwing around with dual-boot and go that route. On my current desktop PC - i run Solydk and use PlayOnLinux to run Quicken and then VirtualBox with...

Re: Solydk Laptop Install - Best Practice???

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to take a look at the warranty small print. So essentially, in the event of a warranty repair, you have to do a factory restore. A pain but doable. I believe the Asus warranty is 90 days - this model is a Best Buy exclusive so I'm sure they'll pitch their extended war...

Solydk Laptop Install - Best Practice???

I've been running Solydk on a regular desktop computer for around 8 months - very happy with it and have no plans on changing my OS. I am however planning on a hardware change - after 20+ years of acquiring and building desktop computers - looking to consolidate down to a laptop + docking station. I...

Re: Canon MX470?

I found a driver that works - Canon MX450 print driver and Canon MX450 Scan Driver. Print quality is excellent.

Canon MX470?

Anyone happen to be using a Canon MX-470 All-in-one Wireless printer? Just picked one up after my HP went belly up. Having trouble finding a driver specifically for it. I found and downloaded a Canon-driver Deb package - apparently it has every Canon printer driver ever made but the one for the MX-4...

Re: Solydk is messing with me & my audio! :-0

Thanks, flyinraptr, for sharing your sound adventure. That's one of the things with linux. We spend a lot of time trying to work out a problem, knowing there must be a way round it. Then follows the satifaction and self congratulation when we find an answer. - It's worth every minute of the frustra...

Re: Solydk is messing with me & my audio! :-0

It took me about an hour to figure out the right amixer syntax but it is working well! Hopefully, my little adventure will provide some help for someone else experiencing a similar issue and i still like what i've seen with Solydk so far! Happy to see you solved it with a little help. :geek: In ord...

Re: Hello From Texas, USA

Hello Night Wing, Welcome .... I am new to SolydK myself and also a longtime Windows user. Over the years i have tried to cut ties only to revert back for one reason or another. I've always had a hard time letting go of Quicken and Wine has always seemed clunky to me. SolydK comes pre-installed with...

Re: Solydk is messing with me & my audio! :-0

Thanks Whell. I'll take a look - although the first attempt to remove pulseaudio didn't turn out well - i think the instructions i was following weren't complete though. i pretty happy right now, however, i created two desktop shortcuts both using the amixer command - one to enable and the other to ...

Under "Audio Playback" only one is not greyed out ... Built-in Audio Analog Stereo

- right now attempting to figure out the correct syntax for amixer - no luck so far

Re: Solydk is messing with me & my audio! :-0

Not in front of my pc - but was thinking along the lines of creating a couple of panel shortcuts that enable/disable the loopback device in alsamixer. I found this ... http://www.linuxcommand.org/man_pages/amixer1.html

Will try my hand at it when i get home ....

Re: Solydk is messing with me & my audio! :-0

I couldn't resist - ran sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio* and rebooted. I logged back in and tried to run alsamixer - got "connection refused" error message. Seems audio for other apps stopped working as well. I re-installed pulseaudio and I am now back to where i was. I have TV Audio - but requires la...

Re: Solydk is messing with me & my audio! :-0

Ok - so i found a couple more possible workarounds. One was to edit the tvtime.xml file in /etc and change the <option name="MixerDevice" value="/dev/mixer:Line"/> to line1. I tried this workaround to no avail. Currently, i have the kmix, and gnome alsa mixer gui installed and neither seems to have ...

Re: Solydk is messing with me & my audio! :-0

Being new here myself....and since no one has answered yet. I would consider getting on debian irc and posting your issue there. I'm not saying you won't find your answer here but using debian irc couldn't hurt. Thanks - I'm going to try uninstalling PulseAudio first and if that doesn't work - will...

Re: Solydk is messing with me & my audio! :-0

Update - still broken .... have spent the last week reading countless threads pertaining to this problem with no real definitive solution. In summary of what I now understand - PulseAudio is the at the center of the issue - being the defacto audio standard for pretty much every Linux distro. The pro...
