Re: Mounting .xsession-errors in tmp

@Bas Cheers Bas - I do recall from a brief foray into the land of Plasma that the .xession-errors just goes bonkers! I have been able to hunt down most of the issues that hit it in XFCE and it is now down to a happy 3 - 6 k. The other pain is .xfce4-session.verbose-log which has so far failed to yie...

Re: Mounting .xsession-errors in tmp

OK - thank you both for the useful pointers.

I think what is happening is that the setting in Xsession is being read, but it is then overwritten by logcontrol.

Oh well - no matter.

Mounting .xsession-errors in tmp

On other Debian based distros I have no problem mounting my .xession-errors in /tmp - which is itself mounted in tmpfs via fstab Normally I just edit the ERRFILE value in /etc/Xsession and it works quite happily. This is primarily to avoid loads of activity on the SSD. For some reason I have not bee...

Sorry - SolydX - I was just testing with a USB and the live ISO.

This is for an older machine that is currently running Debian Wheezy - want ed to see how it looked.

Re: SolydXK 10 202006 testing

So far so good - one small issue is the mouseover tooltip in the Notification area. If I hover over the network connection the tooltip is trying to pop under and therefore vanishes. I have fixed this in the past by altering the Max Icon Size in the notification are but that has not worked this time ...

Just try running

Re: Firefox newtab advertising

Ah yes - I see what you mean, it doesn't seem possible to get to the page layout you want simply, but it may be a combination of settings Don't know if it would be possible to output about:config to a file - then compare with Xxdiff? Given it works in latest FF, can you get a on old version of FF 60...

MX and Solyd are two very different beasts.

Look at the range of issues raised on their forum and then compare with this one.

No contest.

Re: LibreOffice as default office package in SolydX

I have to interact with MS Office users with some quite complex table layouts created in Word. Libreoffice spits the dummy and leaves a nasty mess on the screen. Softmaker just opens it, does what's needed and saves it - in either .doc or .docx format (paid version) Conversely I find the drawing too...

Re: several icons in panel won't fit/are cut off

The size of items in the notification area can be adjusted.

Menu>Settings>Panel>Items>Notification Area

Click the Properties Icon towards the bottom of the list on the right.

You'll see a Max Height value that can be scrolled to adjust for better fit.

Re: MX-Linux success: why?

It transpires that with MX you can upgrade/install a new version even if your /home is under / rather than a separate partition. This presumably happens by simply deleting/updating everything else rather than reformatting the drive which is the norm for new installs. Obviously you've got to tick the...

Re: Repo change requires acceptance

In my experience, running sudo apt-get --allow-releaseinfo-change update fixes this as well, without the need to comment/uncomment anything. You should only need to run it this way once. After that, things are back to normal (at least here they are). The reference to the manpage is a perfect exampl...

Waterfox scrollbar - where is it defined

scrollbar firefox waterfox.png Solydx 10 with Firefox ESR and Waterfox. I'm puzzled as to why Waterfox has its own scrollbar rather than following other settings. The attached pic shows FF on left and WF on right. In Solydx 9 both were the same - per FF so this came as a puzzle. I use TraditionalOk...

Re: MX-Linux success: why?

I have used MX over the years. MX-18 is of course now on the cusp of stretch>buster change. It is actually very good in that they maintain a test repo which provides the latest and greatest that CAN be backported to stretch - so for example you can install GIMP 2.10 while Stretch is at 2.8. Most imp...

It will get supported as much as possible with a very small team like ours. But, to solve your wine problems: Use playonlinux and choose whichever wine version you need. POL is a wrapper that allows you to create different prefixes with different wine versions. If you do gaming, lutris is better su...
