Re: Breakage and News tracker for debian testing [buster]

As my main system (Haswell chip) is always on, the last microcode update that was implemented was the 20171117 one, mentioned in the second posting in that bug report thread. I'll be keeping it like that for now (and I wish I could be as confident about a quick fix as Henrique de Moraes Holschuh app...

Re: Apt's cli visual style?

The original apt as provided by the Debian package is still available on SolydXK installs as apt.divert. However, on my system (also EE) this does not produce the exact same kind of output as the Ubuntu version.

Re: Help for Grub Customizer glitches

There's a recent thread on the Mint forum with a rather interesting subject line: Is the Grub Customizer a no, no?. Most people there seem to think it is.

The bit on this page, item 6.2.2, says it all.

Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

Uploading new 32-bit SolydXK 9 ISOs now. Only briefly tested in a VM (just the live system).

EEs some time next week, after the new kernel has migrated to testing.

Re: Some clues about CPU vulnerabilities? Spectre and meltdown

The SA-00086 tool has absolutely nothing to do with Meltdown/Spectre. It's about the Intel Management Engine issue that came up earlier. https://www.wired.com/story/intel-management-engine-vulnerabilities-pcs-servers-iot/ https://hackaday.com/2017/12/11/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-intel-manageme...

That's only on wayland and I'm not aware that's currently in use in our systems. Firefox 57.0.4. works fine here.

Re: swap in systemd, any problems?

First of all, this is about GRUB and not Grub Customizer. In fact, I wish that wasn't installed on your system as it adds an unknown (to me at least) variable to the equasion. Also, I'll be ignoring GPT and UEFI in the text below, so anyone reading this, please don't comment that my explanation is i...

OK. I'll try to explain things in more detail, but that will have to be later today as I have other things to do right now.

Re: swap in systemd, any problems?

Ah. I didn't see that bit, sorry. No, I don't get that at all. The system I tested things on locates the swap partition by its new UUID from the fstab file without issues.

This still happens after you reinstalled grub and updated the initramfs? Then I'm afraid I'm out of ideas.

Re: swap in systemd, any problems?

Yes, mine also boots and the time has been reduced. But have you looked at an output of bootlogd or any other log for "start job" entries? They start not even halfway down. The lines folllowing "Waiting for suspend/resume device ...", yes. There are an awful lot of them on your ...

Re: [Solved] How about a SolydM?

Well, of course it keeps the SolydX plymouth, lightdm, icon theme etc. These procedures needs new deb packages I think, because updating some SolydX debs might turm all back to SolydX brand. These business are beyond my amateur skills... You need solydm-system-adjustments. I had already done some w...

Re: swap in systemd, any problems?

Right. I really don't have time for this, but just to put this non-issue to bed, here's what I did (on my testing machine): - booted SolydX 64 on sda7 - started GParted - switched off swap (sda5) - changed UUID of sda5 - modified and saved /etc/fstab - mounted second SolydX 64 (on sda8) - modified a...

Re: 31 packages not upgraded?

I think using backports is a pain.

Seriously, this is what you (appear to) get when you do that. The dist-upgrade will fix the solydk-system-adjustments issue and "synchronise" libreoffice with stretch.

Maybe putting the libreoffice packages on hold will help?

Re: Serious bug in Gparted 0.25.0

A BIOS Boot Partition can be quite small. 1 MiB should be enough. You can use GParted to create it (by taking a bit of another partition, if necessary). Set the bios_grub flag and leave it unformatted. Recent versions of GParted will identify a BBP's file system as 'grub2 core.img', but I believe 0....

Re: 31 packages not upgraded?

Does your system treat recommended packages as dependencies (third option on Synaptic's general preferences tab)? Then try apt-get dist-upgrade instead of apt-get upgrade . The 2.9.1 version of solydk-system-adjustments has a new package in the Recommends section and that won't be installed if you u...

Re: Serious bug in Gparted 0.25.0

One issue with Installers that may be giving you headaches... most find existing SWAP partitions and either Mount them and/or Format them. I can't figure out how to undo that default with the Solyd installer, but with the Debian installer you can deselect them. The SolydXK installer actually doesn'...

Re: Serious bug in Gparted 0.25.0

There is, of course, still a bug in Gparted introduced sometime between 0.19.0 and 0.25.0 which is: /sda5 still properly belongs inside the MBR extended partition, contrary to the behaviour of 0.25.0. There is no way the number 5 partition is not inside the extended partition on an MBR disk. Let's ...

Re: Serious bug in Gparted 0.25.0

Just curious, do you know a single word to describe each option that is not as awkward as the above two descriptions? For me, simply mentioning the fact there's an extended partition makes things clear. MBR is MBR. You either have an extended partition or you don't. The coincidence extended to bork...
