Re: Show your Desktop Screenshots

I just built this beast a couple of weeks ago, it's finally loaded and everything working (haven't had the time). See sig for machine specs (yeah, I know, it's not the latest and greatest but it fits my budget and it's NOT Intel or Nvidia, I'm very done with the both of them). The wallpaper is a scr...

Re: Xfce desktop icon labels tweak

Link to tutorial and sample pic here , enjoy. Edit: Note; This does not work if you use the Greybird appearance theme. Thanks for this. First thing I always do on Xfce installs is get rid of "ancient" icon text settings! :) One bit of info if I may; the slightly better way to do this sort of thing ...

No problem, glad somebody found it and made use of it. :D IMHO, some of the default desktop icon text backgrounds that come with some themes are just silly, ugly and ridiculous. :?

Also glad you tweaked the file, isn't that fun?!

Re: Show your Desktop Screenshots

One thing I've often wondered about is why some people radically change their desktops so often. I don't see mine much once I get on the net, as it's nearly always covered by the browser window. Could someone please explain to me what the fascination of radically changing their desktop weekly or mo...

My latest incarnation for those that like the normal-ish look... I 'stole' (just kidding, they're freePL) the icons from these nice people at github . Appearance Style=shearwater (I like the panel window button outlines and the nice menu item easy-on-the-eyes mouse-over colour) Icons=elementary Xfce...

My latest 'theme', I call it 'human-gorilla', with the exception of those icons found here , I like to see what I can get away with based on what's in the repos. Click on the pic after it loads to go full size... http://s3.postimg.org/ncadn2o4f/Debian_Wheezy_Xfce_Human_Gorilla_Theme_2014_7_18.jpg

Re: Show your Desktop Screenshots

Looks nice GNUday. Yeah, unfortunately this icon set was made for Gnome, most of them work, but you can see by the picture in my previous post it needs a bit of work for Xfce. :( The Avdira system font is in the repos, the Penhurst (title bar font) and Sancreek (GKrellM) were downloaded and manuall...

Re: SolydXK steadily gaining in popularity ...

I was a bit puzzled that Netrunner chose Manjaro over the Debian model...I admit I don't really understand the appeal of Arch / Manjaro. How is it superior or in any way advantageous over Debian? I do make frequent use of the ArchLinux wiki, however. In my opinion, it is the authority on Linux. Jus...

Re: SolydXK steadily gaining in popularity ...

but in the end, although Netrunner / LM may be prettier, I just like the concept of install-once and keep on rollin' too much. I totally agree (rolling), besides the fact anything with Ubuntu under the hood makes me feel like I need a shower these days. Have you seen Ubuntu's (and by asso...

Re: Optimizing Linux

But the biggest surprise is Fedora 20 KDE!!! I have to agree, Fedora 20 is actually not bad, especially if you install 'easylife' (enables rpm's version of non-free/contrib/multimedia), or you could try Korora (from Australia!), that's a nice looking, pretty distro, lots of pre-configuration. But s...

I had never been a great lover of the buntu family having tried Kubuntu on several occasions Same here, I was a Kubuntu user until the desktop spyware search tool debacle (I know it was on by default in Ewbuntu and not Kubuntu but that makes no difference, a pig with lipstick is still a smelly swin...

Hmmm my nepomuk semantic desktop was disabled by default System Settings>desktop search. And everything de-selected in Indexing. And don't have it or akonadi running as don't use Kmail or Pim or any of those type programs. But they can easily be disabled. http://www.databook.bz/?page_id=3728 The ea...

gtk alternative to k4dirstat (kdirstat)

If you want to know what's guzzling your disk space, this tool is very similar to k4dirstat (formerly kdirstat) found in KDE, except baobab (the name of a tree ) won't drag in 3/4 of KDE with it (k4dirstat still wants to even with recommends turned off). The Debian package page (for Wheezy, ...

Re: XFCE

What eventually forced me from KDE to Xfce was nepomuk and akonadi, I never do 'searches' and I don't need PIM (Personal Information Management). I really pains me to say this but KDE is almost becoming like Windohs, try to uninstall or remove an unwanted component/feature and it breaks, part of the...
