Re: System hang on switching to ALT+Fx tty console

@ScottQuier: Yes, you are right. That was a typing mistake from my side. However, as I said, the switching itself is working. And, I can confirm, on my system its not Ctrl+Alt+F7, its F8. F7 is the screen where boot messages / plymouth is displayed. @zerozero : Yes, it was exactly the same and I fou...

Re: System hang on switching to ALT+Fx tty console

Ya, actually I tried both. In fact after it gets into hanged state, I try all the ALT+Fn key combinations but it doesn't work at all. It doesn't even switch to any text consoles also. I have tested this everytime the situation occurs.

[WORKAROUND] System hang on switching to ALT+Fx tty console

I am having this issue since last 15-20 days. Sometimes, if I switch to a text mode console using one of the ALT+Fx (x=1,2,3...) combination, and then try to switch back to the GUI console using ALT+F8, the switch doesn't happen. Instead the system hangs displaying the text console and no combinatio...

Re: [P] [SolydX] Cannot start Firefox, Thunderbird

I also second that, there is no problem with Firefox and Thunderbird for normal as well as admin users on my 2 months old, moderately tweaked SolydK install. I use kuser tool to create users and all of them work just fine out of the box. There seem to be some permission related issue with the machine.

Nice... So we'll be having it pretty soon. Based on my experience with it on Fedora VM, its quite stable in its current avatar. :)

Re: Switch to new Plasma NetworkManager applet?

No no, the one i am talking about is this: http://i61.tinypic.com/b53cic.jpg I have fedora 20 in VB with testing repos enabled. I got this today after updating. Yum.log shows these entries: Mar 04 21:45:02 Updated: 1:libnm-qt-0.9.9.1-1.fc20.x86_64 Mar 04 21:45:18 Updated: kde-plasma-nm-0.9.3.3-1.fc2...

Re: [SOLVED Partially] No Plymouth Screen on Shutdown/Hibern

Try changing the plymouth theme to something else. Regeneration of intramfs will resolve it i think. Once its resolved, you can change back to your old theme again.

Re: No Plymouth Screen on Shutdown and Hibernate

Found the answer to my hibernation issue in below thread... http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1827 This certainly doesn't shows the plymouth screen on hibernate but atleast it gives the percentage of work done. And the resume from hibernate happens with the plymouth screen in all its glor...

Re: UP process change

I was basically not referring to these point releases as security updates, but i guess I chose the wrong words. KDE team is doing bug fixes and releasing "fixpack" kind of point releases every month. Keeping up with them is something I would prefer, but its not a deal breaker as mostly these "fixes"...

Re: systemd on Solydxk

I think the real power of systemd is only seen after properly enabling the parallel loading of startup services. By properly, I mean setting up systemd to do parallel loading and prioritizing loading of services intelligently to achieve the desired effect. Merely installing systemd with its default ...

Re: UP process change

@Schoelje: Any official word from you on KDE point releases? How are we actually managing these in SolydK? Can I expect point releases outside of update packs?

Sorry for being so desperate :)

Re: systemd on Solydxk

@Schoelje : Have you checked whether the service unit file is present at etc/systemd/system/rc-local.service? If not, you might need to create it. Have a look at below 2 links: http://superuser.com/questions/278396/systemd-does-not-run-etc-rc-local http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=2720...

Re: Your First Linux Distro?

My first distro was Redhat Linux 8 in 2002 i guess, which I used for some time till version 9 and later moved on to Fedora Core / Fedora till version 14 or 16 (when they changed the package selection scheme in anaconda). At the time of RH Linux, I also tried SUSE Linux and Mandrake, but always retur...

Re: UP process change

KDE isn't part of security updates (and I see no reason why it should be a security update) but AFAIK it's part of solydxk's own repository and fully rolling. when I write this post we already have 4.12 in the repo while in debian testing we still have the old 4.11. we'll get the updates whenever s...

Re: UP process change

Although I am very much in support of the new UP change, there is one thing that bothers me: KDE point releases, like 4.11.x or 4.12.x, where only the x is changed, in my view should be part of the security updates that come in between of UPs. 3 months of time is major in such context and KDE team r...

Re: No Plymouth Screen on Shutdown and Hibernate

OK. Resolved the shutdown thing myself. While fiddling with settings sometime back, in System Settings > Login Screen > Shutdown > Boot Manager, i chose the Grub 2 option. That is what was causing this issue. Setting it to None resolved it. But while hibernating, I am still not getting any progress....
