Re: New Wireless Card Help

Hi MAYBL8, I looked at the Netgear site and it seems the only drivers offered for the WNA3100 are Windows drivers. However, I found the following 2 posts on the Ubuntu forum and 2 responders said it worked. ************************************************************************************8 Re: Net...

Re: Noise in Microphone

Referring to your image...... It seems likely that you are using the default choice which is at the top of the list :HDA Intel. If that is true, switch to : Playback: Audio................ and see if anything changes. I had some audio issues ( none involving a microphone) and just switching to Playb...

Re: ByPass Login Screen & Password At Startup

Hot Doggies zerozero, I found another way, but yours is a snap. Here is what I did sometime back: settings manager > system > session and startup > general >session chooser > uncheck ' Display chooser on login'................... 'Guess you were up on the high road whilst I was taking the low road.....

Re: Camera issue

Hi Mistergil, I used to use the camera-to-usb cord to connect my camera to my computer until I got tired of dragging out the cord every time. Then I spent $10 or so and got a usb flash card reader. It was much easier to take the memory card out of the camera, put it in the reader and plug the reader...

Hi All, In case you happen to know someone who is not sure how antivirus scanners work and what virus signatures are, point them to these links. It might help make things a little clearer for them. **************************** http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/V/virus_signature.html virus signature A un...

Re: Has anybody tried installing Comodo Antivirus?

Hi All, This scenario caused me to think of something I had not considered before: My wife is a Windows user .............. I had CAV under Ubuntu........................... When I show her something on the net and she says mail that to me. I scan it first with clamav because I don't want to fix her...

Re: Posting images to the forum

Hi All, Well, ya' know what they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words".......... So, is a bigger picture better than a bigger word? Hmmm........ Sometimes a higher resolution graphical representation of our message serves a useful purpose. Is there actually a preferred image hosting site? Cheer...

Re: Newbie with several problems

grizzler - Apparently, your personal experience with NetTime is different than mine. (I assume your comments are the result of personal experience and not intellectual conjecture). My personal experience is that after I installed NetTime and set it up, the Windows 7 time display changed to my local ...

Re: Newbie with several problems

Hi All, I solved the clock issue a different way. I am a drag'n'drop kind-of-a-guy and since I adopted SolydX 2 months ago, my 2 typing fingers are becoming muscle-bound, so I tend to seek other solutions first. I chose the Micky$oft approach - install more software and build up the bloat. I tried s...

$30 ? Where did you buy them ?

I'd like to explore the source...........

Re: SSD Install Question.

Thanks for that link! Lots of new things to explore. I added the content to my database. As to the webpage's notion to use discard - I have difficulty with folks and materials that tell me to do something and they don't even give me a clue as to why their way is better than the other ways available....

Re: [SOLVED] Extreme Noob: SDD not recognised

Hi Cugal, Far Out! Good job. I am happy to hear your SSD is out of the trash bin. There are 2 thoughts I wish to leave for your consideration. I did not need or want data encryption. My Transcend SSD forced hardware encryption on me, no choice. Also, I learned after I bought and installed the ...

Re: SSD Install Question.

Looks as though you are gaining momentum. I am new to Linux in general and SolydX in particular and have several curiosities. I am wondering why you choose 'discard' over fstrim. Everything I read recommended not using discard for two reasons. The most common complaint is that discard sends the dele...

Re: SSD Install Question.

Hi TN.Frank, I have thoughts on SSD for you to consider. Last year I Googled all over the place looking into the SSD scene because I wanted to get one for Windows. (This is before I discovered SolydX.) SSD operate quite differently than HDD and need to be treated differently if maximum lifespan and ...

Re: [SOLVED] Extreme Noob: SDD not recognised

Hi Cugal, Did you use the Samsung Magician software before you did anything else? Magician sets up the drive so it can be used. You have to decide how much 'overprovisioning' space to give the controller to use for it's duties. This space shows up as unallocated on the drive. Magician also allows yo...

Re: [SOLVED] PCI-e Sata III cards

Hi All, UPDATE: I found a PCI-e SATA III card with 4 ports that SolydX 'sees'... See attachment. The info claims that it is recognized by Linux 2.6 and newer..... and SolydX saw it instantly. FYI - My original card used an Asmedia chipset and was not seen by SolydX. None of the cards I checked out o...

[SOLVED] PCI-e Sata III cards

Hi All, Are there any PCI-e Sata III cards that SolydX can 'see' ? I like SolydX so much that I am willing to make a few sacrifices to be able to enjoy it. I already sent my Nvidia GT9400 on vacation and it's ATI/Radeon replacement arrives today. I had my Sata III SSD connected to my Transcend PCI-e...
