Re: UP and BE/BO 2014.04.15

Not much forum time lately but got the updates notification and saw the 4-15 UP was out so since I was on a quick connection at work, I updated the UM and ran the UP via the new 2.09 UM. No issues on AMD E-350 APU Acer laptop with OS drivers running SolydX-64. Nice job Schoelje and the Testing Team!...

Re: Creating a wifi hotspot

Just to clarify your hardware a bit, you have a PC with both a wired connection and a wireless card? If so, you may be able to set your pc up with a static IP and set your wireless to ad-hoc mode (instead of infrastructure) then your phone may be able to connect. See this -> https://wiki.debian.org/...

Re: Install in VirtualBox

Not sure as I use Virtualbox a lot and haven't run into this but a quick question or two: What is the host operating system, 32 or 64 bit? And what version of SolydXK are you trying to install in the guest 32 or 64 bit? If it's 64 bit I believe it can only be installed on a 64 bit host. If it's a 32...

Re: New Computer

As a reference point.. I'm using SolydX not SolydK but... I took a quick look at the linked system and it looks like a pretty decent system. I guess my only concern would be your intended use. If it would be for gaming, I'd have to vote no based on the HD3000 series Radeon only being supported by "l...

Re: Yikes! Cds and DVDs not recognized or mounted? (Solved)

To enable kernel polling permanently (survives a reboot), add the following command to your /etc/rc.local file (anywhere before the 'exit' line in that file): echo 2000 > /sys/module/block/parameters/events_dfl_poll_msecs Any number between 2000 and 5000 (milliseconds) should be reasonable - the hi...

Re: New password system lets planet Earth do the hard work

Interesting. But it wasn't clear to me if this was going to be software you installed on your system or you'd have to do this on their site or location. I much prefer to use an option that I can store securely and LOCALLY. Like KeepassX. With one good password or a file/key I can create and store al...

Hey Digger,

Welcome aboard. That looks like a nice Linux rig you set up and it should run SolydK really well. Enjoy!

Re: Robolinux? What do you guys think?

You got my curiousity up so I had to go look.. I agree it is rather misleading on the VM support but what was more of a turn off was their contact/support page. Took a look at their forum and only 29 posts. Not sure how long they've been running but I saw a couple of "gentle" leads to purchasi...

Re: Please Help: Dual Booting Windows 8 DELL Inspiron 15z

Adam - Glad to see you've settled/found a path forward to get you going for now and also glad to see you're not abandoning the idea of SolydK in the future. I am sorry we weren't able to get a better outcome for you and some of that is due to my lack of experience with UEFI systems and just a genera...

Re: Please Help: Dual Booting Windows 8 DELL Inspiron 15z

Hey Adam, I just had a chance to look at your bootinfo summary and it was quite confusing to say the least (due to the UEFI/GPT) compared to the "standard" summaries I've looked through. I can however see that grub did indeed get installed to sda8 as well as there being a boot flag set there (even t...

Re: How To: Resume from suspend with wireless USB mouse

I'm just wondering. the udev rule should be enough and we didn't need the rc.local script anymore. am I wrong? I'd say that depends and may work on your system with just the udev rule but you'd have to try it. It did not work on my Dell Optiplex with just enabling the port for the mouse. I had to d...

Re: SolydXK on Acer S3

My cheap Acer Aspire 5253-BZ602 (AMD e-350 apu) has been rock solid as well. The OS Radeon driver works well for everything I've used it for and really shines with video nut I don't really game with it (other then OpenTTD). The only thing I've found that doesn't work in Linux is the FN-F3 wireless d...

How To: Resume from suspend with wireless USB mouse

Problem: I'm a big fan of Logitech's wireless mice but haven't had one yet that would allow me to resume from suspend with it. The issue is that the power for the USB ports to allow it to wake the system has never been enabled on any system (desktop or laptop) automajically. Solution: Fortunately, ...

Re: after sleep no input from keyb or mouse accepted

Hi duped - sorry to hear about your issue with your SolydXK BE install. Sleep/resume issues can be fun to troubleshoot for sure. I'm working with SolydX not KDE but I might be able to give you a hand.. I'll try anyway. First a little housekeeping. When you post the output of a command in your thread...

Re: Need to learn how to overcome dependencies on install

My sense as relating to packages is that there are a number "levels": Software Manager - you search and find the program you are looking for and the SM goes and pulls the various packages needed for a successful install. It does it all under the covers and you never really know what it's doing. At ...

Re: AntiX-13.2 bugfix and enhancements release

Thanks a lot Rok for bringing this little jewel to light here. Didn't take too long to find the difference that been plaguin...
