Thanks for the reply, I guess I an lucky I have separate partitions for / and /home. I have never did a clean install and saving my data on the home partition. So guidance is necessary.

I initially decided to remain with solydxk-8 but now wish to upgrade to solydxk-9 but didnot mark the link to the instructions and could not find using search. Please point me in the right direction.

During the security update today (8-Oct-14) using the update manager the notification icon after the update keeps saying that there are updates without no updates indicated. Just an update: Once I fixed the Network Manager I was able to change my three Solydx boxes to static IPs with out having to access the router/modem supplied by the phone company. After that I edited the stc/hosts file to include the Solydx boxes (names) and their IPs and all work from the fire brow...

Was able to get to the command line and issued the three commands and there were no errors, or packages to upgrade..
I did a re-boot and have the same problem, after a hard re-boot then went to the advanced options menu and selected the old kernel 3.11.2-486 and was able to reboot.

Do not know if this is of any useful information, but I am able to get back to the grub menu with a hard reboot. Aditionally, I can only see on the Solydx Grub Selection screen the SolydXK GNU/Linux selection and advanced options. I thought I should be able to see both the initial january installed ...
