Thank you very, very much for sharing this. Not only did I save the bookmark, I copied and pasted its contents and added it to my list of linux how-to's.

Re: Im wondering if anyone is still tracking sid?

I don't use what I consider a sid distribution per se, but rather, I use debian updated to sid repositories. I must say that I have two installs of sid, one with xfce desktop and mate desktop. The mate desktop seems to be running better with fewer problems. But really, both are quite usable.

Re: how to mount drives within /home [resolved]

I took it one step further and made my HDD an optional mount. If the HDD is physically connected and powered it will mount. If it's not, then the system will quielty and without complaint simply ignore that fact. A quick question... this was casually mentioned in a post above and it caught my eye. ...

Re: When do you know you are a geek?

How bad are your habits, folks? Pretty minor compared to yours. I usually have at least one non-linux guest virtual machine running just so I can have a smoother workflow to get my necessary work accomplished. My employer uses non-linux technology, unfortunately. 99.999% of the time I am booted int...

Re: Cannot install f.lux with ppa

Some around here frown on using ppa's to install software. I have only used f.lux with wine on linux. I gave up f.lux on linux and started using redshift. It works better and is easier to use.

I hope you work it out, but I can not help you with this install problem. Sorry...

Live Environment or Refracta problem?

Regarding this issue: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4285&p=39580&hilit=live#p39580 Purging the "^live-" programs does indeed fix the issue of Updatemanager not working, however, I see something else. In purging this, it also removes "refractasnapshot-base" and "refractasnapshot-gui". I tried to re-install the...

Re: New Installer?

its FAR more complicated to expalin than to just do I have never heard it stated like that but it is so true! I always use gparted to create/alter partitons. If a livecd does not have it present, then it is the first program that I do install. Then I use it to prepare the partitions before I start ...

Re: Hello, from North Carolina, USA

Darrell,

From one North Carolinian to another, welcome to the forums! I have been using SolydK BE for a while now and I really like it. In fact, it is quite boring since I have no problems. I like my computing experience to be like this. :D

Re: Maxthon Browser for Linux

I tried to install it in the SolydKBE and it will not install because of a missing dependency. It seems that it needs version 2.15 or higher of libc6 and the stable repo only has version 2.13. Maybe the Home version will work since its programs are newer, but I don't know.

Re: [P] Enable remote desktop / desktop sharing

I really feel that I am outside of my comfort zone in commenting on this but after tinkering with both X11vnc and tightvncserver before, I will share my thoughts... I think that trying to start X11vnc from /etc/init/ will not work because X11vnc requires the Xsession to be running before there is an...

Re: Install SolydK in Virtualbox

For what it's worth...

I had this same problem while trying to install SolydK. I took a minimum of 768mb ram and 32mb of video memory to successfully install. I was trying with 512mb ram and 16mb video, but that did not work.

Re: [P] Enable remote desktop / desktop sharing

c.monty, I have hesitated to jump into this thread because I have never used vino server. I use tightvncserver and X11vnc for my remote viewing needs and they work fine. I tested it yesterday with solydX (Xfce) and both tightvncserver and X11vnc work fine. Would you consider trying this instead of v...

Re: How can I restore my LAN connection in Solydk

I have not had this problem, yet. But I did run into this problem after I built a LiveDVD (remaster) and then installed the livedvd. This is what I did - Browse to /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf Look in that file for: [ifupdown] managed=false And change it to read "managed=true", and reboot...

However, this time when I clicked on the Install in the Update Manager, after fully updating in synaptic, it still installed a couple of programs, even though there were no programs showing as needing to install. I received no error message eith...

Package processing broke with update manager

I don't know if this would be called a bug, but I wanted to know the developers know about this since I doubt it is "normal" behavior. I installed solydK-BE two days ago and was impressed. Installed and configured to my liking and nothing was out of place. This install is good to go, so I thought I ...
