Re: Computer Security

Password can be changed by someone competent with Linux.

Personally I would encrypt any sensitive files within your
Document folder.

Re: Another Remaster Question

At various times I've used all the methods - clonezilla, rsync, refracta, tar and fsarchiver. All can be successful with a little tinkering, but as previously mentioned I find fsarchiver the most straightforward.

Re: Another Remaster Question

The last time I used fsarchiver fstab was automatically correct for the partition to boot via UUID. The only entry I had to make was the correct UUID for my swap partition, using gparted and copy and paste.

Re: Another Remaster Question

Fsarchiver is the easiest IMO, it does all the hard work for you, partition to .fsa file then restore to different partition, but it does not create an ISO. Last time I used Refracta on SolydX there were issues to overcome.

Re: Goodbye! and an explanation...

Thank you ZZ for your help with my minor problems running SolydX. Nothing in life stays the same forever and as humans we must all accept that change is inevitable. This is just one of those times. I wish you all the best for the future and know that your forum input will be sorely missed.

Backintime SOLVED

My install survived the latest update (just) - however, I now find that Backintime (which I use a lot) is not working. The program will launch from the menu but not backup. When launched via cli, the message "failed to import keyring" appears. As a fumble in the dark I installed python-gnomekeyring ...

Re: The new SolydXK - Q+A

Life itself never stands still and this is one of those times for SolydXK - IMO the transition is well thought out, documented (at this stage) and will suit the majority of users, including myself.

At the moment (for my needs) SolydX and MX14.2 are the two best OS's out there.

Re: Live Environment or Refracta problem?

I ran into this problem with SolydX and decided to choose UM against Refracta - there are a variety of ways to backup and restore a system. The alternative was to use the terminal for updating. Refracta works fine in Debian Stable. In Debian Testing you have to accept that breakages occur.
