Re: Laptop shuts down by itself on battery, no warnings

Sigh... I've tried everything discussed above and the damn thing still keeps shutting down. It's driving me insane. I can't continue with this...a laptop that shuts down instantly without any warnings is simply unacceptable. I lose my work each and every time. Again, thanks for all your input on thi...

Re: Laptop shuts down by itself on battery, no warnings

Oh, raivac, I missed the link you posted so I just checked that....

FYI I already had thermald installed, but had not yet enabled intel pstate so I've just done that and have updated grub. Let's hope this works!! Fingers crossed!!

Cheers, and once again, happy new year!!

Re: Laptop shuts down by itself on battery, no warnings

Hi all Thanks for your comments and advise. Sorry for my slow reply....but yeah, it's the Christmas holidays etc etc etc. See my comments below: raivac -- yes, I tried this with kernel 3.13 but still suffered the same problem. Having said that, I don't believe I had this problem before...I'm pretty ...

Re: Laptop shuts down by itself on battery, no warnings

I know the laptop suffers from battery and power problems. What I'd like to know is how come this problem only seems to happen in linux? Why will my laptop "shutdown" immediately after login into xfce (following a previous "shutdown" just a moment before), yet I can login just fine into windows and ...

Re: Laptop shuts down by itself on battery, no warnings

Hi Thanks for your response :-) If CPU fan was a problem, then surely the same would apply when within windows 8. Straight after I experienced one of these "shutdown" moments whilst on SolydX, I'd immediately try logging into windows 8 and it reporting having say 20-30% battery remaining...more impo...

Re: Laptop shuts down by itself on battery, no warnings

...anyone?...

This problem is driving me nuts. It just shuts down instantly as if battery is dead...but then how come I can boot into windows 8 (mehhh) and it says I still have say 30% battery remaining! Something is most definitely up! Problem is, I really see nothing wrong in xfce power settings.

Laptop shuts down by itself on battery, no warnings

Dear All My Asus UX31A laptop has, within recent times, started shutting itself down quite suddenly and without warning (i.e. no battery is low announcement is made). Actually, to be a bit clearer, it's behaving more as if the battery is totally flat and thus "dies", so I never see any proper shutti...

Re: Update manager permanently shows updates are available

Heyheyyyy rock'n'roll - it worked! :D Cheers zerozero...the shiny blue tick is back in my updatemanager. ...just out of interest, which side of the fence will SolydXK go if debian goes for a divorce? Will it go the systemd route or for the breakaway republic? Looking at what systemd stuff has been d...

Updatemanager permanently shows updates are available SOLVED

Hi all Just a quick little query -- update manager on my asus ux31a permanently shows updates are available, yet the system is fully up to date (update manager's own pop up tells me so). What might be causing this little anomaly and how to get that nice little 'tick' showing again? Kind regards and ...

Ah okay...I thought it'd actually been released...

In that case, I'll be patient and as soon as the issue has gone, I'll mark this as solved.

Re: intel - *ERROR* too many voltage retries, give up

Hi zerozero I've definitely had this before but on this occasion it is causing my laptop to totally fail in shutting down...sometimes (note rarely) does it succeed to shut down normally(ish)...meaning, I still see the error but it then does indeed shutdown. The usual response is that it just hangs f...

pulseaudio misbehaving! (SOLVED)

Hi all Ever since the latest update I've sadly been experiencing problems with pulseaudio on my Asus UX31A laptop, which thus affects all media (totally disabling everything). It simply does not start on login, yet, if I type "pulseaudio" into a terminal I get this: yep, that's right...nada. However...

Re: The future of SolydXK

You know, you're right...LMDE isn't promoted on their homepage. It probably only gets a brief mention when it gets its annual upgrade. I had tried to love LMDE in the past, I really did, but I never felt it received the same love that its ubuntu-based version got...I also suffered big time with its ...

Re: The future of SolydXK

Hi All I just wanted to show my support for the idea of switching to debian stable. This is ultimately what I wanted: a stable XFCE version...only that this did not exist when I started with SolydXK (so went with SolydX in the end). Just a thought that occurred to me --- I'm a little curious as to w...
