Re: Gimp 2.10.0?

You might also want to consider/read up on Flatpak. While I wouldn't want to use it extensively (but hey, that's just me), for this type of situation it may be a good fit.

You could run the latest version of GIMP via Flatpak until it eventually hits Debian.

Flatpak is in the repos.

Re: Contemplating a move to Solyd XK - "X"

Hi, pepdebmate , welcome to the forum. I installed SolydK (I'm a KDE guy myself) in 2013, and I'm still running it. I personally have had no problems whatsoever, all drivers installed automatically, media codecs work flawlessly, it's all good. Totally stable through the years. I run SolydK on all 5 ...

Re: Breeze-Dark-X style no longer works for YouTube

Albert, is it possible that you were using YouTube's built-in dark theme and now, for some reason, it's no longer in use? The dark theme is only selectable if you are logged in to YouTube. When you say your eyes don't like bright lights, I'm thinking that perhaps you had this theme activated. System...

Re: Should I choose Testing [EE] ?

Good gosh, kurotsugi, that is an absolutely amazing tutorial/explanation. You've gone above and beyond with this one  .

We should take up a collection and hire you to write the SolydWiki.

Hell, PM me a PayPal address and I'll buy you a few beers. Good beers.

I still cannot connect to the forum without using a VPN. Nor can I download an iso.

Was that the apt-transport-https package?

If so, I already have that installed.

Re: Cannot Update My System

Same problem here in USA. I can only reach the forum via VPN. I can get to the SolydXK Home page, but I cannot actually download an iso. "Firefox cannot establish a connection to the server at downloads.solydxk.nl" Plus no updates. Apt reports failed to fetch http://repository.solydxk.nl:80 (81.169....

Re: SolydXK-Welcome not able to download on new installation

It was kind of amusing how, after recommending Solyd as my friend's first foray into Linux on the basis of "everything just works, no problems anywhere!" the first thing he sees is that I have a "problem" installing it  . Thankfully not a big problem, and one that was quickly and easily fixed....

SolydXK-Welcome not able to download on new installation

This seems related to the recent server migration. The ISO I used was downloaded earlier today. I just installed SolydK-9 on a friend's laptop, and although I had an internet connection in the live environment, the installer complained that there was no internet connection available. Of course I ins...

Re: Does not auto mount Ext HD

I'll leave Question 1 to be answered by someone who uses XFCE and has it installed. However, from a quick poking about via Google, it appears that you may not be able to easily automount external drives at boot - and by easily, I mean through a GUI. But again, I don't use XFCE and I haven't done an ...

Re: Does not auto mount Ext HD

...automount can't work on the livesystem. OK, that makes sense. But I think Redraw has installed SolydX and still can't get his external drives to automount. Is that typical behaviour for XFCE? Perhaps he'll have to make manual mounting of the drives part of a start-up ritual; I've certainly had m...

Re: Does not auto mount Ext HD

I don't use XFCE, so I can't be of much help, but I did just download the SolydX9 iso and burn it to DVD. Using 2 different computers, I plugged in two Seagate 2TB external HDDs and started the live DVD. The drives were not automounted at boot. So I can verify that, at least in the live environment,...

Re: Configuring Virtual Desktops

Plasma 5 has dropped support for different wallpapers/different widgets on virtual desktops. However, you can use Activities to get that function. Instead of the Desktop Pager widget, use the Activity Pager . You won't use 4 desktops any more, you will use 4 Activities; you can then use a different ...

Re: Show your Desktop Screenshots

I'm still using Solyd 8 (and KDE 4) on my multiple SolydK installs because I can't quite get Plasma 5 to look the way I like. And I really like the way my desktop looks. I prefer a clean, minimal appearance, so the bottom panel is set to autohide. A top panel displays a clock and a thermal monitor. ...

Re: startup error

Yep, I'll almost guarantee that the new Debian install formatted the existing Swap partition, which changed the UUID.

Run

Code: Select all

sudo blkid
to check the UUID of the swap partition, and compare it to the fstab entry. Edit as necessary.

Re: Asunder not producing mp3s

^^ Well I'll be. Either that method wasn't available in the past, or I ended up doing it the hard way for no good reason. My bet is on the second option. :D Back to the OP's queston about Asunder - I just installed it and ripped a CD without problems (it was a slow process, though). Again, I note th...

Re: Asunder not producing mp3s

It might just be me, but I've not yet found where one can customize, within k3b, the sampling rate, compression, etc of the generated MP3.[/list] In Solyd8 (jessie), it's not very intuitive: you go to System Settings > Multimedia > Audio CDs, where you will find the settings in the "MP3 Encoder" ta...
