Re: Libreoffice crashing

I'm experiencing similar problems in 4.1.5.3 on SolydX. These apply to pasting images, but I haven't had trouble with saving. See this post: http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3686&p=34195&hilit=libreoffice#p34107 I'd like to try re-installing the newer version from the LibreOffice site, s...

Re: Can't paste images into LibreOffice in SolydX

After further investigation, I've discovered this only seems to affect images that are larger than the page/slide, and which would get scaled automatically when pasted. But it's still a problem that I need to solve. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Installing TLP (via PPA??)

Thanks—now I understand. And that' also explains why Debian-specific (as opposed to Ubuntu-specific) PPAs, such as this TLP one, are ok. Thanks for the clarification :)

Can't paste images into LibreOffice in SolydX

Hello, I'm running SolydX, 64-bit. I'm having great difficulty pasting images into LibreOffice, both Writer and Impress. This includes simple screenshots taken with the Xfce screenshot tool, and small images from the web. When pasting (either by Ctrl+V or Edit→Paste), the program hangs for a while, ...

Re: Window tiling/snapping in SolydX?

Thanks, it's now working!

I tried to apply that tweak yesterday, but it changed nothing. I think it required me to do a restart before it was applied. Anyway, working beautifully now. Thank-you! :)

Re: Installing TLP (via PPA??)

Thanks. In that case maybe I will switch to the PPA.

Zerozero, could you explain (for curious newbies like me) why using PPAs in Debian is not a good idea—and how to know when a PPA is ok to use?

Many thanks—I'm really enjoying SolydX! :)

Re: Installing TLP (via PPA??)

Great, thanks.

Is it better to use the PPA or the .deb packages that zerozero posted? I installed the latter this afternoon and all appears to be working well.

Re: Installing TLP (via PPA??)

Thanks—I've installed both now.

(If anyone else is trying this, you have to install tlp before tlp-rdw or it won't let you install.)

Many thanks for your help, zerozero! :)

Re: Installing TLP (via PPA??)

Thanks, zerozero!

Should I install the .deb packages from both links in that post, i.e.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/176 ... -1_all.deb
and
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/176 ... -1_all.deb ?

Or just one of them?

Many thanks for your help :)

Installing TLP (via PPA??)

Hello, I'm running SolydX, 64-bit. I'd like to install the power-management tool TLP (http://linrunner.de/en/tlp/tlp.html). The instructions for Debian/LMDE, which I assume would apply to SolydXK as well, involve using a PPA. But I've read somewhere in these forums (I think in ScottQuier's signature...

Re: [Solved] Sound volume much lower than in Mint/Ubuntu

I have solved this now by switching from xfce4-mixer to pavucontrol. To do this, follow the instructions under “Pulse Audio Volume Control” on this site: http://linuxpanda.wordpress.com/2014/03/02/things-to-do-after-installing-debian-8-jessie/ and then right click on the sound icon in the panel, sel...

[Solved] Window tiling/snapping in SolydX?

Hello, I'm running SolydX, 64-bit. Is there a way to have window snapping (“Aero Snap”) in Xfce, similar to KDE and Cinnamon? I would like to be able to drag a window to the edge or corner of the screen, and have it take up exactly half or a quarter of the screen size. Currently I can drag it to the...

[Solved] Sound volume much lower than in Mint/Ubuntu

Hello, I've just installed SolydX (64-bit) on my eMachines e525 laptop, having switched from Mint 16. Thank-you for this fantastic distro! One thing I've noticed is that the volume is considerably lower than in Mint/Ubuntu—to the point that it is necessary to use headphones for anything involving au...

Re: Logging in just returns me to login screen

How do you log in through LightDM? (I'm a newbie). I still have that SolydX VM, but cannot get past the login screen to change any settings at all (unless that can be done from the login screen). I created a new VM, and haven't had further problems with this, but am still wary of setting it to ask m...

Re: Grub rescue

Hello, I tried doing this, after I lost the GRUB following the April '14 updates (outlined in http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3493&start=80#p32751). When I type insmod normal ... I get an error message that says "error: unknown filesystem". What shall I do from here? My SolydX install ...

Re: Logging in just returns me to login screen

Since there were no replies here, in the end I re-installed SolydX. I set it to log me in automatically, and have not had further problems with this issue.

How to restore GRUB after updating

I am a newbie to SolydX. I just tried to apply the Update Pack. During the process, I was asked to select the ‘GRUB’ install device (as per the image at http://solydxk.nl/up-and-bebo-2014-04-15/). Selecting the default ( /dev/sda ) resulted in error messages (unfortunately I can't remember them), so...

Re: Installing LilyPond

Great, thanks!

So, just to confirm: on April 15 they will be in the repos and I can install them from there.

If they do get removed later, will they still remain on my machine and remain usable?

Thank-you so much for your help :)
