Re: SolydXK steadily gaining in popularity ...

I think that SolydXK is slowly becoming the go to distro for those that want Debian base that just works. The distro for when the computer is a tool to get things done rather than it being a hobby in of it's self. As such I'm not sure it will ever be "exciting" I'm not sure I want it to ever be exci...

Re: [Request] Bittorrent Sync

It's the type of thing that due to it's usefulness should be available to users and in my opinion installed by default. May be I miss understood this section of the forum. I have spent many years with PCLinuxOS I admit a slightly odd distro where it recommended that it's users should only install so...

Re: Setting DNS?

I have just moved in the last 3 months. It's a good idea at least at first to get your internet from the phone supplier. If not you can get into a terrible mess if there are issues. The ISP blame the phone company and the phone company blame the ISP. So if you go with the company that own the line "...

Re: Linux Printer installs

The user experience on Linux of an HP printer owner is better than Windows. It goes to show "if" the manufacture puts the effort in we get what we need. I guess it's because HP sell computers as well and some of those computers come with Linux pre-installed. Brother along with most of the others jus...

Only a matter of time really once the DRM features were added to HTML5, that said it's good to see it working out of the box with no command line Fu.

This is using the admin PW, BT is big enough to have these think manufactured for them and write their own firmware. It's locked down pretty hard.

Re: Setting DNS?

My ISP is BT and the router is supplied by them. It's a BT Home Hub 3 Wi-Fi router. http://www.techdigest.tv/home-hub-3.jpg Although it has some advanced settings it's heavily dumbed down. Port forwarding for instance you can not type in the ports, you have to select from a predefined list of applic...

Re: Setting DNS?

PendragonUK: I don't use KDE so can't help with this one but I just enter my preferred DNS IP addresses directly into my router via its webbrowser config screen. Then they work for all PCs connected to my LAN. Unfortunately the router supplied by my ISP can't be changed. It's odd it's the first tim...

Setting DNS?

For many years I have been a fan of OpenDNS, I would like to setup my SolydK workstation. I have run into an issue or two. Firstly I can't find a GUI way of setting the DNS within the kde "System Settings" (I have spent more time in GNOME in the last few years) When I manually edit /etc/resolv.conf ...

Re: Netflix now playable on Linux

I know what you are saying, that said Debian testing is still quite some distance from the bleeding edge. I think an Arch user would smile at the thought of Debian testing being "too edgy" for a regular user.

Re: Netflix now playable on Linux

Thank you I can return to binge watching TV shows...

Would I be right in thinking that once we have SolydXK EE we wont have this type of issue because we will be running right off the Debian testing repos?

Re: Netflix now playable on Linux

Things like having Netflix work out of the box in a distro would be great. Might be something someone could figure that type of thing would make SolydXK stand out.

Re: HOWTO: Install Netflix/Pipelight in SOLYDXK

Well I'm not going to be having anything to do with that much breakage. I'm quite conservative with in respect to how I want this workstation to be. It's my laptop that gets messed about with, I'm currently testing Ubuntu-Mate at the mo. I should be able to get Netflix working on it in quick order. ...
