Re: Problem fetching GPG keys

Thanks grizzler - that worked. I was using the code from https://solydxk.com/get-support/verify- ... -with-gpg/

Perhaps it needs updating ?

Problem fetching GPG keys

I'm trying to install Solydx 201707 and am receiving an error when trying to import GPG key from the keyserver using

Code: Select all

gpg --keyserver x-hkp://pool.sks-keyservers.net --recv-keys BCA63C3C
The message says keyserver not available

Iceweasel in Debian becomes Firefox-esr

Firefox has just become available in Debian stable. https://wiki.debian.org/Iceweasel#How_t ... Firefox.29

Maybe less work for Schoelje each time Firefox updates ?

Re: StartPage search engine

Sorry I am also a bit late to the discussion. I too have used StartPage from time to time and certainly found it better than DuckDuckGo. However I have a slight issue with the idea of using StartPage to get Google results. It strikes me as a little dishonest - if one wants really Google results then...

Re: Debian stable and patching

@kurotsugi. Thanks for the example - it helps to clarify. @ilu/Zill. Yes I have been trying out Manjaro as a proxy for Arch. I did find it quite nice and a bit more uptodate. For example I use Keepass in Windows and the version available in Manjaro / Arch is more recent than that in Debian - either ...

Re: Debian stable and patching

Thanks for your comment Zill. I was thinking I suppose of other distros (shock/horror  ) like Manjaro or even Arch (not for the faint-hearted) .

Also I don't think it is necessarily the case that "shiny" must be paired with new (despite my signature :D )

Debian stable and patching

I was reading a topic here recently ( about a developer who was objecting to Debian using what he considered an old version of his software ( cant find it now even after searching). Anyways it got me to thinking. I had been wondering for a while where the periodic patches and security updates etc ar...

Kudos to Schoelje

Not sure how you managed it Schoelje but the SolydX ( and presumably SolydK) implementation of Firefox seems to be the least resource intensive I have encountered. Even vanilla Debian XFCE , BunsenLabs ( very nice distro), and Solus 1.1 ( newcomer - very nice and at least part Irish to boot) Iceweas...

Re: Adding a network Printer

Thank you all for the suggestions. I have the printer working ( for now at least :| ) @ilu Tried the terminal commands you suggested . I could ping the printer no problem . sudo lpinfo -v couldn’t find anything other than the CUPS-pdf printer which is already installed . I suspect that this is a sha...

Adding a network Printer (Solved)

I am trying to add a canon Pixma MP495 printer ( wirelessly networked). When I add the printer in print settings I get a dialogue saying I must log in IP address: 192.168.x.x ( my ip address for the printer) Domain : WORKGROUP ( not sure where this is coming from ) Password: When I enter my sudo pas...

December 2015 ISO

Hi all, Its been a while since I posted . I've been on vanilla Debian Jessie for the last 7 or 8 months and thought I would have a look at SolydX again. Glad to see the distro is happily chugging away. Well done on a great version - the live version looks and feels very good. Feels even lighter than...

Re: ODF in the EU

Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a truly open standard that all documents adhered to ? The trouble is too many business etc are already too invested in Word documents already and the cost of conversion could be massive ( how likely are Microsoft to enable full ODF compatability ? - realisticall...

Re: 3 choices in UM Latest update: 2015.01.31

Yes it is a little confusing. My understanding is that the "upgrade" really refers to where your sources list will end up pointing. At the moment (before Jan 31) both BE and HE sources lists did not point directly to Debian repos I.e. They pointed to SolydXK repos. After the upgrade HE to Jessie wil...

Re: BE to Wheezy upgrade

I also took Schoelje's advice and got the new iso to boot up properly but it freezes during the install just at the point where i have entered my username and password - no further progress. I don't know if it would help with excollier's issue but I had a possibly related issue when recently trying...

Re: [Talk] Home Edition security updates

May I ask whether security updates for Jessie will continue to be made available through this channel after the end of January transition. I appreciate that anybody pointing to Wheezy will automatically get Debians security updates as it is still officially the stable branch. But what about anybody ...

Re: Annual Report 2014

Wouldn`t have guessed that Solydx 32-bit would lead the way in downloads. This says allot, especially for those that want to resusitate their old pcs. Nevertheless, you`re looking at a 87% increase in downloads for the 32-bit and a WHOPPING 112% increase within a year`s time for SolydX 64-bit :!: i...

Re: 32-bit ISO Testing 201501

Downloaded 32bit X iso and dd'd to USB- as mentioned in a previous post PC is 64 bit but only 2G of RAM so figured 32bit appropriate. Booted live version no problem. Initial observations. The good :) New icon set is very nice - much more modern/professional looking Immediately changed theming as I p...

Re: BE to Jessie upgrade

What is this 'transition' that is taking place next Saturday. Apparently I've missed that post. @Fargo - I was a bit confused too but I think the transition that Schoelje speaks of is the point where the sources list changes to point directly at Debians repos (apart from one Solydx repo) .See for e...

Re: Cannot conect to scanner of HP Photosmart c309a SOLYDX

I had problems getting a Canon Pixma printer/scanner to scan. Like you printer was fine but scanner just wouldn't get picked up by Xsane. I eventually had to conclude that the xsane backend hadn't yet (in Wheezy) the appropriate definition file. Don't use KDE so I can't say if SolydK uses the xsane ...
