Re: Icedove latest update is thunderbirdbird. How do I find my mail? SOLVED

The problem was startling. The fix was simple. Much thanks for that. But I've discovered that my Enigma/PGP plugin is missing as well. I haven't had time to investigate but I'm guessing the fix for this may be a bit more involved. In any case, I'm still loving SolydXK and have great admiration, resp...

Re: (Solved) Akonadi Broken

A complete reinstall of Solydxk, reusing /home, did not remedy the issues with akonadi. Renaming /home/user/.local/share/akonadi/ and dpkg-reconfigure of akonadi-backend-mysql and akonadi-server with a reboot appears to have brought akonadi back to functionality. The data in Kjots created after 2014...

Re: (Edit) Akonadi Broken

Three for three ilu. The bug report for Bug#843520 seem to point in the same direction. Unfortunately, the "secure_file_priv=" workaround did not work for me, although I'm not sure if I applied it correctly. Also, unless I missed something, the missing /var/lib/mysql-files file doesn't seem to be ad...

Re: (Edit) Akonadi Broken

I don't use kde (among other reasons because I hate Akonadi) so I did not read the logs you posted. So please forgive me if the information I'm asking now was already included somewhere: inxi -r dpkg-query -l | grep ii | grep akonadi dpkg-query -l | grep ii | grep bpo Please post the output. Intern...

Re: (Edit) Akonadi Broken

The issue is strictly Akonadi crashing. Kjots is intact and fine. Nobody else is experincing Akonadi crashing? (Solved) Akonadi Broken

Good afternoon, Akonadi and Mysql updated a few days ago on a SolydK installation and I am now unable to execute Kjots as Akonadi is crashing. For better or worse, I've relied heavily on kjots for many years and it holds a substantial amount of information, so this is a bit stressful. I did copy /ho...

Re: SMB needs to authenticate twice

You should probably post your smb.conf but I have a hunch this has more to do with XP than Linux. Is this XP with SP3? Pro or Home? Geez, this brings back bad memories. During the XP era, Microsoft used to intentionally break smb to make life difficult for Linux users. Not to mention, early versions...

Gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly is the one I was missing.

Thanks so much for your help, I appreciate it greatly.

Requirements to play .wma in 2015?

Setup:
- Current version of SolydK fully updated
- GStreamer backend
- Amarok

What is required to play .wma format these days in Amarok? Or do I have no choice but to convert them?
I must have missed the memo.

Much thanks.

Re: Sleep assist?

Also, Prozac is crap. It was one of the first SSRIs and it is like using a hammer for surgery instead of a scalpel. Zoloft or Welbutrin are much better choices depending on your clinical needs. Paxil has a bunch of weird side-effects and getting back off it is torture.

Re: Sleep assist?

Benadryl. 30 minutes before bed. Non-toxic, non-addictive, won't screw with your brain chemistry. May dry you out, so stay hydrated. Next choice, klonopin (avoid taking with alcohol). Ambien is bad news so avoid it. Xanax will put you to sleep but it's crummy sleep (less REM). Regular exercise helps...

Re: SolydXK Wiki

A wiki would be great in theory. But aren't you folks stretched pretty thin as it is? If anything, use it as a centralized organizational tool to address breakage resolution for Solyd specific issues and, as Kurotsugi suggests, installation basics, unique Solyd packages and maybe an instructional pa...

Re: TRIM SSD at poweroff/reboot

And what about swap partition? In debian wiki they suggest discard option in fstab even for swap. That is a good question, one for which I have never found a definitive 'best practice'. Discard can certainly be used but that being said, if you have 4GB or more of RAM, you are going to hit the swap ...

Re: TRIM SSD at poweroff/reboot

After I made my initial response, I went back and read your post more thoroughly. Now, having read the link you posted, I understand your rationale a little better. Joao's blog is concerned with write amplification but he was posting in early 2011. Unless you are using an SSD made well before 2011, ...

Why not just drop the script in cron.daily (or cron.weekly) and go have a beer? You get the same benefit without adding to your boot/shutdown time. It works well for me.

Re: Ready for Testing: solydxk-usb-creator

Could you please attach the log file: /var/log/solydxk-usb-creator.log Attached but not very helpful as far as I can tell. There are two passes logged. Both passes displayed the same 'write to cache and declare success before actually writing to the flash drive' issue. The other problems described ...

Re: Ready for Testing: solydxk-usb-creator

With 0.2.8, after clicking 'execute', the progress indicator goes from 0% to 100% in roughly 10 seconds and the displays a 'success' message. Nothing has actually been written to the flash drive. It is as if usb-creator is determining completion by caching the .iso file in RAM. I could determine tha...
