Re: Cannot install on EFI

had similar problems with SolydK9 and Siduction on a Asus laptop... the solution for me was to actually reformat the boot and root partitions with gparted. BIOS (or whatever they call it these days) set the same as ilu's. trying multiple USB sticks did not make a difference, and to make sure, i went...

Re: Install skype and virtualbox by default

you asked for it. Your point about skype being somewhat fiddly is exactly why I want the distro maintainer to manage it for me sheer laziness. as for getting a grip.... Skype is NOT Open Source. its proprietary and for profit... the dev here is already choked senseless with work and your downright r...

Re: Read the very fine manual!

if the concern is to make it understandable by non-tech's, why not go with the "Stable" monicker as is and call the current Home Edition something like "Cutting Edge" or even "Enthusiast Edition". i think this would make it clear that while both are quality and reliable, one will take a more proacti...

Re: Install skype and virtualbox by default

thought i would sound off since i use both software packages but would be bothered by them being installed by default for me. the above reasons are plenty valid to not include.... there are more reasons. i also feel a need to grumble about someone expecting even more free work to be done because the...

2. Regarding security: Even if malware is not a threat to Linux at the moment, it will be in the future (see Android). this has been an argument for decades now. it would seem that in the *nix world, things get repaired rather than left alone to be exploited time after time as in some other OS'. th...

Re: Webcam in SolydX

i dont understand why there are too many packages just for a test... apt-get install and apt-get remove will toss all of them on and remove them for you... course, what i understand is hardly important. odds are, the things Cheese needs to install to make your cam work will probably be needed by the...

Re: Solydk Laptop Install - Best Practice???

as stated, will not void warranty. i bought a new laptop with the new fangled bios replacement... it varies on UEFI systems what things you have to change to make it deal with a boot disk... on mine, i had to turn off the UEFI locks AND enable legacy devices to work (also had to turn on hooks for th...

Re: With all this talk about changing the Solydxk Model

i think distro jumping is one of the problems with Linux. instead of us working with a single distro and getting to know it, we are off to the next shiny. we get angry at the devs for trashing our beloved systems and we yell and scream... but we dont bother to learn what is going on and maybe fix it...

SolydK64 Version 2.4.0 UP:2014.07.15... upgraded and going by when i bought this machine, it was off the same ISO version you used... done it on previous machines as well. my sources are the same as yours. i too have a few things installed, but where you say: The remainder of look-related stuff is f...

Re: What does Solyd mean, really?

i think the real issue is starting to show itself... how do we get more devs working hard for free to make our desktop environment of choice? i have only done commerical code houses in the past and have no idea how to intice free free lancers. would some collaboration between other Debian based Dist...

Re: Skype - Can it be installed on SolydK64 ?

i really dont get why you guys are having to uninstall KDE... there IS a nice Skype package and apt knows all about it.... maybe its the eye candy you use and i dont? it seems to me your KDE installs are borked and its only just showing as a problem with Skype? SolydK64 HE here, with dual displays a...

Re: What does Solyd mean, really?

i am by far NOT a security expert, but i have dabbled a bit. TOR uses its own modified version of Ff and does not recommend using the network with third party software... really, to add TOR, it just needs a package in the reps... i have always found it to be trivial to install and use.... part of us...
