Re: Remove HAL packages

I'm honestly interested in your suggestion to get people to update correctly, as the news/blog and forum postings mentioned above obviously weren't enough to reach everyone. As am I interested. I want this discussion to be constructive. :) First point: SolydXK is not broken. The UM is broken. Let's...

Re: GTK control to force clock text wrapping

I have been tinkering with Gnome-color-chooser with the goal of discovering the magical gtkrc syntax. No success yet. In LMDE I am using the Mint X widget controls. Something in the Mint X widget controls config files forces the Mate clock text to wrap into two rows at only 36 pixel panel height.

Re: Remove HAL packages

It sounds like you didn't get the pre-update script to run for you. Please take a look at the OP here --> viewtopic.php?f=32&t=4303 I notice a trend here. While those of us who support testing should be expected to jump through hoops, regular users will not stick around long if jumping through such...

Re: UP and BE/BO 2014.07.15

UM shows the new number 2.3.8 with a weird date: 2000.01.01
I see the same weird date.

UM does not correctly reflect update status

In both Production and Testing, the UM system tray icon displays a check mark. The icon does not reflect that new packages are available, which is the purpose of the system tray icon. To validate that observation, I need only open the UM from the system tray, wait for the UM to run through the check...

Remove HAL packages

Was the latest UP supposed to remove the HAL packages? That did not happen on my system.

Re: UP and BE/BO 2014.07.15

I've got an old 32-bit Toshiba laptop (900MHz, 512MB) with an almost completely ragged-out monitor that I can (and will) pull out of it's hiding place, blow off the dust and see if I can't get the 201407 iso installed on it (when it comes out). That way, it will be ready for the testing next time. ...

Re: UP and BE/BO 2014.07.15

My 2014-07-15 SolydX (Production) Update Observations: When I started the SolydX desktop the UM showed a blue check mark. No hint whatsoever there were updates, of which I knew existed from reading the forums. When I opened the UM I then was informed there were updates. Seems the UM is not correctly...

GTK control to force clock text wrapping

I am looking for the specific GTK control that allows the clock text in Mate to wrap into two rows. Most of the themes force the clock into one row, but a couple force the clock to two rows, which uses less space and to me, looks cleaner and more professional. I appreciate help in identifying the co...

I updated to 2.3.7 and thereafter updated the other available packages. The UM ran without a glitch.

Re: No password for mounts and configuring printers in HE

there is some indication that the .pkla files are deprecated in certain cases...?
Depends upon the version used. The newer versions use JavaScript.

Akonadi seems to be gone
Really? I find that hard to believe considering how much work the devs put into the PIM apps to support akonadi. Probably not gone, just hidden?

Re: SolydXK steadily gaining in popularity ...

Distrowatch is known only to the geeks and enthusiasts. Typically I do not visit the site until I become curious about a distro. Then I visit that distro's page to read the linked reviews written within the last year. I suspect many people have the same habits. Most Distrowatch visitors are aware th...

[SOLVED] All or nothing with UM?

I do not see a way to install only selected packages from the Update Manager. Seems a user can install all updates or none. Is that the case?

Re: UM testing

what are the supported images in the system tray icon? Okeydokey, I found the icon images. There is no "i" icon like in Mint. The circular double arrow (base-info) is the informational icon. I see that the gear icon (base-exec) is intended to be the "in progress" indicator. To me the double arrow l...

Re: UM testing

"limited sudo system" Poor choice of words on my part. By "limited" I meant that a sudo based system does not have a root account. SolydXK does have a root account and thus, although sudo is available as in all Linux systems, users can directly use the root account to perform administrative tasks. ...

I am delaying my testing of the new packages until UM issues are resolved. I need to have some upstream packages available to perform any further UM testing. :)

Re: UM testing

You can resize the window. Manually yes. Is the new size saved in a config file or is manual resizing the only option? updatemanager was never designed to run as root. I understand the presumption. Yet SolydXK is not a limited sudo system and a presumption remains a presumption. End-users cannot be...
