Re: Keeping the operating system updated.

As SolydXK is based on Debian stable then there will be very few updates, security updates mainly from Debian and any adjustment packages that Arjen release's If you run SolydXK EE which is based on Debian Testing then there will be updates on a daily basis. If you install software like Google Chrom...

Hi Ilu

I am no expert but I thought the type for the swap file would be swap and not ext4?

Re: [How To]Installing applications from the server

Sometimes the problem is knowing exactly which packages to install from Synaptic. Hi jsvenancio, try having a read of the link below https://dflinux.frama.io/thebeginnershandbook/lcdd08-administration/ It not only covers Synatic's but also Apt as well, it does go on to other package managers which ...

Re: Shrink Windows partition

Re: Two monitor issues

Yes SolydX, sorry meant to write that. The image show a cut down screen grab of my right hand monitor conky-issue.jpg The left side of the above image shows the lefthand side of my right hand monitor (e.g. the middle of my extended 3840 x 1080 display). That is not bad cutting and pasting with the s...

Two monitor issues

After a very frustrating weekend trying to get my two monitors setup I have now got them working at about 90% correctly, my biggest issue being a faulty DVI lead which would not allow me to set the screen resolution to the correct size, swapped it for a HDMI lead and I now have a 3840x1080 display. ...

Re: USB Creator don't recognize usb stick

While Arjen sorts out the USB Disk Creator you can always create a USB memory stick with the iso installed on it with the following command sudo dd if=~/solydk_9_64_201803.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=64k oflag=dsync status=progress You will need to change the name of the iso in the above code to the name of ...

Re: new install will not boot but

As in my case not, but I don't boot the PC very often so at the end of the day make very little difference .

Still got a couple of jobs to do (processor swap to i7 and a dual monitor setup) which will hopefully add a few more years to the life of my PC

Re: File listings don't always appear in order

Does not work, while it does change the listing into ascending or descending order it does not place the directory's first then the files as it does in Thunar, it place the entire list into ascending or descending order with the directory's mixed in with the files as per the lefthand image in my fir...

File listings don't always appear in order

Have a look at the image below: file-listing.jpg On the left is an open file dialogue box in Mousepad, on the right is the same folder as listed in Thunar. The one on the right is how I expect to see both the open file dialogue window and the file listing window. I found the the settings to change t...

Re: new install will not boot but

After a good nights sleep I came back to this this afternoon with a bit of a clearer head and with some success I now have a booting PC. That is the good news, the bad news if there is any is that it is not booting from the SSD. I have put the /boot/efi on a small partition on one of my two spinning...

Re: new install will not boot but

Unfortunately still not booting into SolydXK

I did have a little play at things but that did not work either but at least I can still get solydxk via the Super Grub Rescue DVD.

I am calling it a night, if I continue you playing with it I will break it.

Thanks for all the help so far

Re: new install will not boot but

On /dev/sda do I need to setup any separate fat32 partition like I currently have on /dev/sdc3

Also since I last replied I wiped sda clean (It was holding an old copy of my Home directory) and reformatted it to ext4 as a single partition, it made no difference to the booting?

Re: new install will not boot but

OK that one did not work either, and there was a different error this time although I am not sure it means anything, it complained about not being able to find a grub drive on sdd1, well sdd1 is the usb memory stick I am installing SolydXK from. After the boot failed again I selected the sda drive f...

Re: new install will not boot but

OK so I rebooted the PC tonight and then ran the grep command and then thinned out all the results that were not dated the 27th, here is what was left (I have trimmed one entry as there was one line repeated over 30 consecutive lines, I left one line which is marked below): /var/log/syslD 27 00:00:0...

Re: new install will not boot but

In regards to the NAS it has always shown up as failed but by the time I have logged into the desktop the NAS has mounted, it used to do that with the previous couple of install of EE.

I will have a search through /var/log shortly and report back
