Google inc to Google llc error

Running my normal apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade I get and error about E: Repository 'http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb stable Release' changed its 'Origin' value from 'Google, Inc.' to 'Google LLC' N: This must be accepted explicitly before updates for this repository can be applied. Folders then files in Thunar

This is based on SolydX-EE One thing that has annoyed me in recent version of XFCE is that when you use Thunar to browse files it would display files and folder mixed rather than the older style (and to me the more sensible way) of folders and then files. A while ago I found how to do get Thunar to ...

Re: Firefox 63: Save open tabs and quit option disapperead!

I can confirm the Save & Quit option is missing from my file menu on Firefox 63 (SolydX EE). What happens if you just simply close Firefox down by clicking the X in the top right corner of the window?? When I do that and then restart Firefox it opens with the same tab I had open previously open. In ...

Re: installation for elderly users

I have used VNC and Teamviewer quite a bit but mainly in a windows world, using VNC normally takes you into a new desktop not the one your parents are currently logged into. You can set it up to log into your parents desktop, I did try in once, it was a faff but once it worked it seemed OK. I only u...

Re: Installing new theme

OK first my apology, the first theme I tried, when I looked closer it was not actually for xfce but rather Gnome Mate (duispite being on an XFCE page) so I have dumped that. I have now tried with another theme but that does not work either. It has lots of files as kurotsugi suggests, it is in a fold...

Installing new theme

I have downloaded a new theme to try on my SolydX EE Instructions said to unpack it and put it in your .theme folder in your home directory, if you don't have that folder simply make it, so I did. Could not see the new theme in settings >> appearance Had a look where the other themes were installed ...

Re: bash script that requires su & sudo to run

Hi Kurotsugi, thanks for the information, I had already realised the various level of the cache clearance and had reduced the script to one line using level 2. I tried to get a script to run using "sysctl", with out any luck. I did a search on the net but everything I found about clearing the memory...

Re: bash script that requires su & sudo to run

OK here is my little script, unfortunately for what ever reason it did not run. I got the basic of it here: https://www.tecmint.com/clear-ram-memory-cache-buffer-and-swap-space-on-linux/ #! /bin/bash #Clear caches sync; echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches sleep 10 sync; echo 2 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_cach...

bash script that requires su & sudo to run

Ok I am trying to make a script that runs 4 commands. From the command line, three of these commands will not run as a standard or sudo user, it will only run as su, the fourth command will run as either su or sudo how can I do this. I believe if I run the script as an icon on the desktop it will pr...

Re: Tidy up my boot

Well I can report that moving the three folders has not affected the system and when I booted with the grub rescue cd there was only the one distro (SolydX EE) listed.

Re: Tidy up my boot

Thanks Kurotsugi, it was not a space issue, just a little disconcerting when you know you have removed those distro and then you boot from the grub rescue disk and you see them all listed when you search for installed distros. I will look at deleting them later and then boot from the rescue disk and...

[Solved] Tidy up my boot

I had a problem booting my PC earlier and I used the grub rescue disk to help resolve the issue and everything is now booting. But what I noticed when I used the grub rescue disk it showed a few distros I had tried in the past and have since deleted. If I look in: mit@andora:/boot/efi/EFI$ ls BOOT k...

Re: Power Manager issues

I don't know if the issue was with my PC or I just did not know how to do it properly, but how do you get your PC out of suspended mode?

Everytime my PC went into suspended mode I had to reboot the PC, know amount of keyboard tapping singularly or in combination would bring the PC back to life.

Re: Power Manager issues

Morning all After playing with bits last night and again early this morning I now seem to have the monitor going blank when I leave it alone and then when I come back to the PC and move the mouse of hit the keyboard a second or so later everything is back and working as it was. As to the reason why ...

Re: Power Manager issues

As you can see (attached image), Put to sleep after is set to never Are you saying that the option "switch off after" should be set to X minutes? I took this to mean switch the PC off, but are you saying that it means switch the monitor off? (for the record I have set it to five minutes so hopefully...

Re: Power Manager issues

Grizzler I don't have a screensaver, there was a discussion about xscreensaver on the forum about a year ago about how old the package was (has it been updated or is there another option?) and from that point on I stopped using it and just set Power Management to blank the monitor after X minutes. ...
