Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

I have installed a fresh copy of SolydX EE 64 201803 as I broke my old install (don't ask please). Everything has gone OK, the only thing I have found that does not work is the icon on the whicker menu is missing. I have a square icon with diagonal lines and an exclamation mark in the middle. As far...

Re: [Solved] Update of SolydK 9 by Discover

for main version user, the correct command should be "apt-get upgrade". "dist-upgrade" only used for upgrading the system, e.x: from solydxk 9 to solydxk 10. while there's almost no differences on stock system, "dist-upgrade" could potentially ruin your system if you have custom repo list. I guess ...

Re: Update of SolydK 9 by Discover

I don't use Discover so can offer any details on that but this is what I use when I update via a terminal

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

@xendistar: How is Summer in Bournemouth? Height of the tourist season, I'd guess. Motor traffic gets brutal? We get some tourist traffic here in the summer, but not like Bournemouth, I'm guessing. I hear you re: KDE moving from stable 3.xx to terrible 4.#$#%&! It DID get better, but the KDE devs w...

Re: Hello from rural USA

Welcome Silverfox, I remember you from my Mepis day, think you will like SolydXK, it just works. I am the opposite to you preferring XFCE for its simple simplicity and speed, I fell out of love with KDE with the advent of version4. Well it is bed time for me, another hot sweaty night in the south of...

Re: Breakage and News tracker for debian testing [buster]

OK, answering my own post this error seems to be covered by at least two bug reports https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=902183 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=901830 There are suggestions of removing files\packages but I think I may just leave until the dev had come ...

Re: Breakage and News tracker for debian testing [buster]

I had this come up tonight after a dist-upgrade tonight. cryptsetup: WARNING: The initramfs image may not contain cryptsetup binaries nor crypto modules. If that's on purpose, you may want to uninstall the 'cryptsetup-initramfs' package in order to disable the cryptsetup initramfs integration and av...

Ah, so it was one of the packages I mentioned... 8-)

Do you use midi? If you don't, there's very little chance you'll miss having timidity installed.
I think there is a game that might use it but I am happy to go without until a updated version of Timidty comes out

Re: Silence maybe golden but it is not what I want!!

Thanks to Senernity on the Debian forum the issue has been solved. Well it seems I have my answer, it's a *bug in TiMidity of all things. The new version takes control of the sound chip before PulseAudio can, effectively locking it out. So I used "systemctl stop timidity" followed by "pulseaudio -k"...

Re: Silence maybe golden but it is not what I want!!

If I look under pauvcontrol, under the configuration tab, it says No cards available for configuration, now does that mean pulse can not find my soundcard, what does everybody elses say? If it does mean that pulse cannot see my soundcard, how to I add it, I have looked at the pulse documentation, bu...

Well this is what I get
VLC-screengrab.jpg
Also where can I find the latest EE Iso file as I want to boot this PC from a boot disk and run a couple of commands and check out a couple of config files to see what I have and what a fresh install file looks like?

That maybe the case (and I don't wish to enter a debate regarding open source v other sources), but it works for me and it is there for other to make their own decision.

Re: SolydX evince pdf viewer won't save preferences

I found Foxit do a linux version of its pdf reader, unfortunately it is not in the repos but I installed it. Unfortunately it does not seem to follow the installed theme but it does seem to function (at least for what I want it to do) which I guess is more important. https://www.foxitsoftware.com/do...

Silence maybe golden but it is not what I want!!

Did an update tonight (solydX EE) and I have lost Audio, everything goes through the motions that it is playing but there is no sound, checked Alsamixer and volume control and noting is muted. I did find a post on the Debian forum about somebody running Debian Testing and he has lost audio in the la...
