"Some kind of bottleneck"

I have a pretty decent machine. Ryzen 1500 256GB SSD (Mount /) + 2TB HDD 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM GeForce 750Ti I've been getting a lot of slowdowns lately. Sometimes it's Firefox or Youtube getting choppy when Minecraft or another game is running on the 2nd monitor (there are plenty of free cores/threads...

Is there a good substitute for Youtube Center?

I'm a Firefox user and my favorite extension has typically been greasemonkey and the youtube center dev script, which adds a lot of extra functionality to youtube. Unfortunately the extension seems to have broken due to Youtube changes and there have been no recent updates. Does anyone know of a sim...

I use pocket, but firefox's built-in pocket features are inferior to pocket extensions which do a much better job. As such, I disable the built-in pocket.

Re: Went to using SolydXK was Linux Mint was becoming too boring and safe

The biggest sell for me was the stability. I've been using Linux since 2004, starting with Mandriva, trying various other distros (e.g. Arch, PCLinuxOS, etc) and spending most of my time on Ubuntu-based OSes which eventually go out of date or require a major (possibly distro breaking) upgrade every ...

Looking for a good GUI archiver

Okay, i'm convinced that ark is garbage. I've had extraction problems with it before but now it won't even let me save any archives I have made.

Anyone know of a good archiving utility? I'm looking for something graphical as I want drag and drop functionality.

Re: I like this OS!

Wow. Haven't heard that name Mandrake in quite awhile. Before that it was Mandrake's predecessor Mandriva, which I ran for years. Mandriva would have been the successor, not the predecessor. They had to change their name to Mandriva because of some kind of trademark conflict. That said, I also ran ...

Newer Kernels?

I'm using a Ryzen processor and uname -r says my kernel is 4.9.0. Some of the later kernels improve support for Ryzen and i'm just wondering what the best method is to use the newer kernels is.

Re: Recommendations for AMD Ryzen system, sudden reboots, random freezes

There are some possible workarounds to the freezing/reboot issues on Ryzen.

The first workaround is to go into BIOS and disable C6 states. This one solved my issues.

If that doesn't work, the other workaround I read about is to go into BIOS and disable SMT and/or opcache features.

Re: Recommendations for AMD Ryzen system, sudden reboots, random freezes

The tco_watchdog error seems to be common for Ryzen machines. Some Ryzen chips were affected by a bug which caused segfaults. I'm not sure whether this also lead to hard lockups/resets. I'd firstly try to make sure that your distro is using a modern kernel. 4.10 and newer kernels have improved suppo...

Re: I'm back!

Came back from Manjaro. Question: Why? I have used SolydK for quite some time but then moved to Manjaro which I use for a year now. I just wonder what made you decide to go back? Not that there is anything wrong with it, just being curious. I had all sorts of minor little problems and glitches with...

I'm back!

Came back from Manjaro. I've got to say i've missed this distro greatly, if you don't count the Wifi issues I had upon installing SolydK 9, everything just works reliably.

Feels like i'm home again.

Welp. Back to having month long uptimes. :)

Re: Show your Desktop Screenshots

Running a dual-monitor setup.

The default fonts on SolydK are very good compared to other KDE distros, but I really like Noto Sans as a system font.

I'm still tweaking around with things! Dang its good to be back on SolydK.

Re: Solydk9 edit Wireless Connection

Thank god for this thread. I re-installed SolydK last weekend and tried 4 different dongles and none of them worked. The suggestion in the link above did work and now I am back up and running!

Re: Wanting to start out with KDE5

So i've been using Manjaro's Plasma 5 for a few weeks. My impression of it is that it's not actually much different than KDE4. Some of the small inconsistencies in the interface have been rectified and the system tray applets follow the plasma theme better and theres a few small features/changes tha...

Re: Wanting to start out with KDE5

Thank you for the recommendation. I was looking for distros to scratch my Plasma 5 itch that were also rolling and pretty stable. I'll have to give Manjaro a try. That said i'll still easily recommend this SolydX/K to anyone else.

Wanting to start out with KDE5

I've been using SolydK for about 3 years now and it's been rock-solid stable until recently (firefox has been causing my system to stutter/freeze on video), It's been so stable in fact that i've been rebooting only once a month. However, I'm building a new PC and want to get the get into more cuttin...

Re: Steam no longer works (missing libGL.so.1)

Problem resolved. Somewhere, an update went wrong and it caused some issues to happen. Steam not starting (Badwindow, integer error), some kind of dependency hell relating to updating the nvidia drivers, etc. It took me a few tries to do, but I did the following: 1) Used DDM to remove the Nvidia Dri...

[SOLVED] Steam no longer works (missing libGL.so.1)

I recently updated my system and also did sudo apt-get autoclean to uninstall some old packages that apt-get was complaining were no longer needed (some i386 packages were included in the list of autoremoved packages if I recall correctly) Anyways, Steam was working up until that until I restarted X...
