Re: Freenode IRC Support Channel

First of all, thank you for your interest in and effort you want to commit to SolydXK. I think it was back in 2014 when I decided to discontinue the SolydXK IRC nodes. I prefer to have a single point of entry for the community. A central place where people come for support or help others. I also thi...

Re: Hello from rural USA

Hi John, Although I'm on my honeymoon I wanted to welcome you to our community. I'm typing this on my phone and I still have difficulties using the keyboard. So, I'll keep it short. I liked your introduction and I appreciate the effort you put into it. I hope we can help if you need it and I hope we...

There's also a program called "Global Shortcuts". I think you will find what you need in the Kwin and Plasma sections.

Server down on July 15 00:00 until 11:45.

Yesterday, on 14 July, the server crashed. The last log was at 23:59:56 which makes me suspect that the ISP was doing some maintenance on their servers.

I rebooted the server at 11:45 and all seems to function again.

My apologies for the inconvenience.

Re: WHY is this OS so SUPER SLOW??

Indeed, SolydXK is not based on Mint but on Debian. Performance issues can be analyzed by these commands: systemd-analyze systemd-analyze critical-chain systemd-analyze blame For my 6 year old system with SolydK it looks like this: arjen@solydxk_main:~$ systemd-analyze Startup finished in 6.011s (fi...

That was easier than I thought. Use python3-geoip2: https://geoip2.readthedocs.io/en/latest/
Updated live-installer-3 in repository.

...but the live installer is not working:

Code: Select all

Error Opening file /usr/share/GeoIP/GeoIPCity.dat
I'll have to look into that.

Re: Community ISO maintenance and build issues - 2

Great! I've also updated my ISO build scripts. Now to figure out why upgrading the lot still wants to remove the installer... :? Edit Curious. You need to install geoip-database separately first, or apt will get seriously confused. Yes, I thought it was just me... P.S. You do know about dpkg --comp...

Re: Community ISO maintenance and build issues - 2

I've adapted live-installer-3 to use geoipupdate instead of geoip-database-contrib. I had to manually create /etc/GeoIP.conf: # The following AccountID and LicenseKey are required placeholders. # For geoipupdate versions earlier than 2.5.0, use UserId here instead of AccountID. UserId 0 LicenseKey 0...

Re: Community ISO maintenance and build issues - 2

It would, but why bother using geoip-database-contrib at all? The geoip-database package has been around for years. It's available in stretch, even goes back as far as wheezy. Because geoip-database-contrib is a download script: This package contains a script that downloads the latest version of th...

Re: Community ISO maintenance and build issues - 2

Well, that was a waste of time... Turns out the only package that really mattered was geoip-database-contrib. The installer needs that but it's gone. Replaced with - wait for it - geoip-database! I don't know if this has the same API as the dead one, i.e. updating the installer may require more tha...

Re: Community ISO maintenance and build issues - 2

Only solydxk-constructor would remove unavailable packages when building an ISO. There is no code in the live-installer to do that. I see that live-installer creates a cleanup.sh script at the end of the process: #!/bin/bash sed -i 's/^deb cdrom/#deb cdrom/' /etc/apt/sources.list dpkg --configure -a...

I'm sorry to hear that. I've recreated your setup with only an extended partition and I had that message but could continue without a problem.

Re: install solyd XK XFCE deb

I see you don't have a primary partition but only an extended partition. I think that confuses the installer. I've never tested that so I cannot guarantee a good outcome when installing.

Click No and you will be able to continue until you need to select the partition where you want to install SolydXK. If no partitions are listed you need to cancel the installation. You also haven't provided the output of the parted command, yet. That would perhaps help me to understand what's going ...

Ah, forgot about that...

I just installed these:

Code: Select all

apt install apparmor apparmor-profiles apparmor-profiles-extra apparmor-utils
