Re: Grub updates go wrong

So the two programs work in a different way? If so then yes, use Synaptic, at least in this situation it worked where the other program didn't.

Re: Grub updates go wrong

Hi all, today I received my neighbors computer to re-install the complete OS. I started with looking what is installed, made copies of config files to re-use them later, looked at settings etc. All these things which make re-installing so much easier. All the time I saw the update icon in the lower ...

Re: Grub updates go wrong

"several years ago this issue made me convinced to completely ditch win 7 and exclusively use linux " That's what we did as well. It was either starting to use Windows 10 or jump to Linux. The first half year was great, the neighbor did not have any problem what so ever until now. I will get his com...

Re: Grub updates go wrong

Hello ilu, This install was done around new year this year so it is pretty new. I started directly with solydxk 10, no update/upgrade from earlier versions. I have thought about doing a reinstall and forget all about efi cause I just don't like it, I myself never use it but on that computer, because...

Grub updates go wrong

Since some time now my neighbor receives updates, one of which is a grub updates existing of several packages. When he updates and restarts his PC it won't boot the normal way, it's stuck in rescue mode. I then restore a backup and all is fine but I like to know what to do to make this faulty update...

Re: Dolphin is slow to show files and folders

Hi ilu, You are totally right, I have had this problem with Cewe in the past. It turns out the program needs the Nvidia driver instead of the Nouveau driver. Why it worked when I setup this laptop is beyond me, but now it didn't. After having installed the Nvidia driver it works fine. I do have cont...

Re: Dolphin is slow to show files and folders

Hello ilu, Thanks again. Baloo is not enabled, so that can't be it. It's normally one of the first things I switch off when installing a new system. I started the answer on the Debian webpage but as soon as I typed: nfsdcltrack init it reported back the command was unknown. Synaptic also doesn't kno...

Re: Dolphin is slow to show files and folders

Some nfs info:

/etc/exports
/home/carry 192.168.1.9(rw,sync,no_subtree_check)

/etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny:
all lines start with the '#' character, so they are simply text

Re: Dolphin is slow to show files and folders

Hello ilu, Thank you so much for helping me out here. Wow, where do you get all this knowledge? I see in the laptop that nfs-common and nfs-server are at 1:1.3.4-2.5, so a bit newer than the version mentioned in the debian thread. dpkg -l nfs* Gevraagd=(U)onbekend/(I)nstalleren/ve(R)wijderen/(P)wiss...

Re: Dolphin is slow to show files and folders

Hello Arjen, thank you again for your help. KDiskFree shows: /dev/sda1 (system disk) uses 33% of 31GB disk space /dev/sda3 (/home) uses 23% of 422GB disk space So, enough space I would say. free -m shows: Total memory 3809, used 654, free 2332 After having started Dolphin the scores are: used 687 an...

[SOLVED] Dolphin is slow to show files and folders

Hello all, My neighbor asked me to look at her laptop cause she had some things which were not as they should be. One of them is the KDE file manager Dolphin. When I open the program it shows the main window in 1 second (fast), it shows the files and folders maybe a second later (still okay) but the...

Re: Frozen desktop with SolydK10

Hello, Thank you for your answer. I should have known that, but I didn't. Do you have any idea why the desktop freezes? It is in folder view and the icons in de folder Desktop work fine, it is just the one reflected on the desktop. I have installed the 340 Nvidia driver hoping this would help, which...

Re: Frozen desktop with SolydK10

Hello again, well I now know this problem of the frozen icons on the desktop, or better put the frozen desktop, is not caused by the CEWE program. I don't have it installed, I don't have install files on disk, I have nothing from CEWE and again, after a fresh installation the desktop freezes at boot...

Re: Frozen desktop with SolydK10

Good morning, As stated before I followed Arjen's advice and created a new user, which worked fine. I then somehow managed to screw up the renaming of the accounts. Ilu, I also found the website you mentioned, thank you for that, I also found another one describing the same thing. Still, I managed t...

Re: Frozen desktop with SolydK10

Hello Arjen, I did not but I do now and after the first start-up it looks good: I can add an icon from an installed program to the desktop and select it to start the program. Am rebooting now to see if it is not just a coincidence. Question: if things stay the way they should, what is the best (easi...

Re: Using NFS to connect 2 solydK 10 machines

I can mark this post as solved. I found out how to use NFS between 2 computers, which if you know it, is very simple. Since both computers are client as well as server, both computers need the same settings and extra software: install nfs-kernel-server in /etc/exports you write the name of the parti...

[SOLVED] Frozen desktop with SolydK10

Hi all and happy New Year, After installing SolydK10 I now sometimes have the problem that the desktop is frozen, meaning icons can not be chosen nor used to start a program. If I start a program from the panel, or the menu, it works as always, it's just that the desktop is frozen. I have installed ...

[SOLVED] Using NFS to connect 2 solydK 10 machines

Hi all, I have 2 machines here which I want to connect to eachother over the network using NFS, since they are both Linux machines. On the internet I found several manuals how to do that but not one gives me a good result, I've been busy for several days now and it doesn't work. What I did is this: ...
