Re: Fumble fingers and Solydxk 10

The first two items are a Luddite screaming about the advances that have taken place while he is sleeping. Having an empty disk I tried to install Solydk just /boot/efi, root, home and swap. Partitions 1, 2, 3, 4 It installed without error but when I tried to start the machine it would not start. I ...

Fumble fingers and Solydxk 10

The first annoyance is if I use that much swap I will be forced to repartition the disk. Why do I need that much /boot/efi - I can remember when you had to make do with 250K of memory only, then Windoze cme along! One unsubstantiated occurence, SolydK would not work when it was the only system loade...

Re: Inability to Connect to High Speed Broadband.

Thank you both for your replies. OpenReach is the creator and inheritor of the copper network and local fibre distribution and usually they are the people who actually maintain and fix broadband services. My isp, Plus.Net, is my interface but it is an OpenReach man that comes to fix it when it stops...

Inability to Connect to High Speed Broadband.

I have a three year? old HP laptop with an AMD processor. SolydX and Solydk 9 are installed and are reasonably up to date. When I bought the laptop and loaded it up with Solydxk the wifi found itself and I merely had to label it. My broadband is known to work with visiting computers. I live in rural...

Re: Not sure if grub will work on reboot

If the machine is 'live' go to root and do an update-grub, followed by a grub-install /dev/sd(whatever disk you wish to boot from. But no partition information. (Say /dev/sdx)) This should restart your machine where you are now and enable you to read the other boot alternatives. If something hits th...

Re: rebuild boot menu

This is my 'procedure' The new distro writes its own grub boot. With luck it will give you access to other systems already installed. Without luck I use SuperGrb2 which gives you access to all available systems. Select the system that you want as the primary boot and boot into it. Then as root do "u...

Re: USB Creator.

Thanks for the info.
I eventually saw the little box for one off isos.
This performed admirably, I now have a SupeerGrub2 usb stick that works happily on gpt/uefi systems.
Thank you very much.

USB Creator.

I wish to create a live usb stick for SuperGrub2. This is a repair tool and not an operating system. super_grub2_disk-hybrid_2.0s9.iso. After filling all of the boxes and pressing the go button the following message is displayed; "Unable to guess distribution from ISO name. Make sure you have the di...

Re: SolydXK on Social Media

We suffer from unsolicited telephone calls often with accents from the Indian sub-continent. The guilty parties are probably using information gleaned/stolen from the telephone company. I object to anybody having any more information about me than they need. (Payment details, delivery address, perha...

My limited experience of accountancy software is QuickBooks(commercial), GnuCash and Kmymoney. QuickBooks was good but it decided to withdraw the en-uk edition so that was the end of them. It is easily adapted to do other jobs like run the local horticultural show where categories are points prizes ...

Thanks. I fear you may have opened another hole in the rabbit warren. The link that you quoted gives me an answer but the results that I now get, (connected for a short time only and then 'connected no) is the fault that instigated the original URL. You have given me enough clues to keep me out of m...

I am a new bluetooth user who is not very clever. This is being carried out on an old Solydk system(an updated version not testing). Solydk8? There is not much wrong with your English. Re: DDM resurrected

I am afraid that there is no /var/log/ddm. lightdm but no ddm. There is no /var/log/ddm in Solydx either. The only package not yet installed was the xserver-amdgpu package and this was loaded using synaptic I am afraid. Lazy sods always take the easy way out! I did glance at the code but was unable ...
