Re: SolydX on iMac

another update: I tried kernel 3.19, 4.4 & 47 without luck. After a lot of googling I found some hint to remove package hdparm. This helped. Now that I have 4.7 kernel, I wonder if I can somehow get hardware acceleration working, so that I can watch eg youtube in full screen mode. From what I have f...

Re: SolydX on iMac

update: I checked the file system with fsck, found nothing. I also compiled kernel 3.19.8 (the debian way, using config from current kernel) and the result is the same.

Re: SolydX on iMac

there seems something wrong with the filesystem. └─systemd-remount-fs.service @1min 5.257s +6ms you can try to do fsck or reinstall the system. thanks, I will try it. Now I cannot since I am at work. btw, isn't the time after the '+' the time taken by the unit to start? At least the first lines fro...

instead of pic you can give the result of systemd-analyze blame systemd-analyze critical chain Here it is: Startup finished in 3.046s (kernel) + 1min 7.999s (userspace) = 1min 11.045s The time after the unit is active or started is printed after the "@" character. Re: SolydX on iMac

I could not boot solydx, so I booted linux mint and check the log file .xsession-errors. It's empty. I took the pictures of solydx booting before it turns blank, and indeed the problem seems to be related to modeset. I already have nomodeset in kernel args, but somehow it doesn't help as in the case...

zill: thanks for the hint. I have nomodeset in the kernel args for both solydx and linux mint. In fact both installers could not boot without this option.

SolydX on iMac

I have installed SolydX on iMac and posted some notes about it: https://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6392 A few days ago I experimented with various settings in xfce power management, with the intent to enable the screen to blank after some inactivity (15min). Since then I can no longer us...

Re: Gnome Keyring

Please always include basic information about your system. Yes, I know you did that on the other thread, but not everybody reads everything. People need to know that you are on XFCE. And you can upload images here in the forum. There's a tab "Attachment" below the message window. On topic: I'm havi...

SolydX on old hardware

I was trying to bring an old laptop ThinkPad R50e (CPU Celeron-M, 512M RAM) back to life. I have tried (in order): lubuntu, linux mint xfce, lxle and solydx. SolydX was the best: installation went without problems, and after that it was very usable.

Re: Troubleshooting VPN?

Hi, sorry for the late update; I am travelling and have very limited Internet access. Re. VPN: I found the cause of the problem: I needed to install the following packages: network-manager-vpnc network-manager-vpnc-gnome since the company vpn server is a Cisco device. After that I managed to connect...

Gnome Keyring

Hi, I would like to use gnome keyring so that I don't have to type my ssh & and gpg passphrase over and over. In Settings/Session and Startup I enabled the following: [imghttp://i.imgur.com/fb3i8cT.png[/img] however it doesn't seem to work: gpg passphrases are cached per session (must retype after e...

Re: SolydXK on laptop

p-state tends to consume more power than ondemand. p-state also less stable than ondemand. if you're not disable p-state you can't use conservative govs. thanks for the response. I have done so far these steps: - install tlp packages - install thermald - add intel_pstate=disable to boot args and up...

Troubleshooting VPN?

Hi, I created a VNP connection to my company network, and could not get it work. I used the same parameters to create a VPN on a macbook and it works, so probably I am missing something in my solydx. What i did was following: - click icon Network Manager/VPN Connections/Configure VPN... - add VNP Co...

Re: SolydXK on laptop

there are several things could be done to optimize linux on laptop. I can mention: - installing tlp - disable intel p-state driver (if you're using intel) - use less agrressive cpu govs (ex: conservative instead of ondemand) and/or throttling down the max cpu speed. - install thermald - sysctl cust...

Re: SolydXK on laptop

It looks like you do not have a separate "/home" partition and so this means that all your data files and personal config files are in the /home directory which is part of the main "/" partition. As this partition is now 82% full, it doesn't leave much room for many more of your user files! General...

Re: SolydXK on laptop

tony: I don't have a laptop myself but I was under the impression that there is little difference between an OS on either a desktop system or a laptop. IMO, both will have similar methods of controlling fan speeds and driving external screens. I appreciate that a laptop may have different keyboard ...

Re: SolydXK on laptop

I had a similar issue a few weeks ago with a SolydK installation on a laptop. I removed the battery and booted the laptop connected to mains. After booting I re-inserted the battery and rebooted. It then showed the correct battery status. I don't know if that's going to work for you, but it did for...

Re: SolydXK on laptop

I would like to share this: a few days ago I let my daughter watch some movie on the laptop (running solykx). When she finished, she closed the lid (which is the right thing for her to do). Yesterday I turned on the laptop and found that the battery is kind of dead: it doesn't charge, capacity shows...

Re: SolydXK on laptop

Hello,

sorry for not replying. We got a lightning in the house a few weeks ago and a few devices went broken, so I was busy fixing other things and didn't have a change to tune my solydx on laptop yet. I hope to get back soon.

Regards,
Tony
