Re: 24 Hour Clock setting in SolydK-9

Here's how I affected the change: ⋅ Right-click on the clock, select "Digital Clock Settings" ⋅ In "Appearance", select "User 24-hour Clock". If it's already selected, de-select it ⋅ Click the "Apply" button and close the dialog &...

Re: Solydxk installation on ssd

Thanks. Running the Trim in the terminal produces the same error. The command is # fstrim -a -v which, for me, produced /mnt/Data: 244.4 MiB (256258048 bytes) trimmed /: 2.2 GiB (2367049728 bytes) trimmed The parameter check does indicate: "Data Set Management TRIM supported (limit 8 blocks)&q...

[Solved] hplip for HP LaserJet Pro MFP m227fdw

First off - sorry for the long post, but I wanted to include everything I has done and found.... I had Jessie based install with hplip 3.17.4 installed and it worked just fine. I figured no problems when moving to stretch based. Wrong. scott@solydxk:~$ inxi -Fzxx System: Host: solydxk Kernel: 4.9.0-...

Re: OK not to reformat /home during install?

I frequently don't format the /home. Since I really, really like to use the same user name, I will ⋅ Backup my ~/ folder ⋅ Rename all the user folders so they are not over-written ⋅ Do your install using the names you like ⋅ Restore your user data from either ...

Re: Asunder not producing mp3s

It finds track titles and automatically names the resulting mp3s. I don't know if K3B can do that. A few years ago when I installed a new car stereo capable of playing music from a memory stick I used Asunder to rip my favorite music. Perhaps it failed because this time it was not a store bought CD...

Re: Need help installing SolyK to existing partition

To achieve your goals, the steps you need to take are: ⋅ Backup your /home directory, or at least the data you want to save ⋅ Start the LiveUSB and start the install ⋅ During the install, delete the two partitions on your /dev/sda ⋅ Recreate the partitions you...

Re: KDESudo error during install

Knowing about the ability to get the transcript was from work I did here a couple of years ago....

I've sent a PM to Schoelje - he'll get to it as and when he has the time and the motivation. Right now, his focus seems to (very appropriately) be on getting the distro ready form stretch.

Re: KDESudo error during install

OK, so I just completed a fresh install of K_8 201701 on bare metal. Part way through (I've marked the spot in the attached transcript, look for "<-----Error occurred here") and a capture of the error dialog. The dialog popped up very near this location. Looking at the transcript, I can't ...

Re: KDESudo error during install

I just did a fresh install of SolydK8 201701. During the install I got an error popup box that said some thing about kdesudo not found. Does anyone else get this. I tried it twice with the same results. I hate to send the system out the door with my father in law if I just did a faulty install that...

Are you dual booted with Windows? If so, if, after you apply the fix indicated by Fargo, your time in Windows is wrong then one of these links might help you out.... http://lifehacker.com/5742148/5742148/fix-windows-clock-issues-when-dual-booting-with-os-x https://www.howtogeek.com/211144/how-to-get...

Re: No more Unity

Yeah the problem was thats a big IF. If you've never used Linux before you wouldn't know the names of the programs It could take several guessed to get something to show up. I had instances when trying out a live cd where I knew the name of the program and I still couldn't find it. As I recall I th...

Re: No more Unity

I have tried Unity when Ubuntu introduced it and couldn't work with it. It is indeed very un intuitive, having to open a program by typing the first few characters of the name, the so called dash, no it's not for me, so I jumped to KDE and never looked back. It's interesting you say this. I just fi...

Re: SolydXK 9 (stretch) alpha build testing

It was strange and I figured it was something on the web-site - nothing else made any sense. But, there could have been something in the K_9 install, for example a modified hosts file or something - I didn't dig to deep to look. Anyway, in the K_9 (in VB), I got the error. Running Firefox just secon...

[SOLVED] GRUB screen resolution & appearance change

On a 1 day old SolydK installation: On initial boot and for some short time following, the grub screen was high-resolution, SolydXK colors and with the "K" logo. Sometime yesterday during the late afternoon (approx 2100 UTC) on a reboot I was welcomed by an ugly, low-resolution, white on b...

Re: Energy consumption: SolydX vs SolydK

Something that will take considerably less time is to run some video in a loop, no screen shutdown, no hibernate, etc.

But the question will still remain whether this result will be useful. I don't know.
