Re: High CPU use in LibreOffice

I recently switched my four-core 64-bit microprocessor to Solydk 10 buster. $ cat /etc/debian_version 10.1 When opening libreoffice writer, the startup dialog box appeared for 6s, which seemed too long. After browsing for an .odt file, it took 3s after I clicked the open button for the 72K file to a...

Re: How to add user ?

Okay, after more investigation, I figured out to add a new user and create a home folder associated with her new username.

Thank you again for your suggestions and your help.

Re: How to add user ?

I added export PATH=./:~/:~/bin/:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/games:/usr/games:/sbin:/usr/sbin to /root/.bashrc That fixed the problem. useradd worked. I added another user account. Thank you, Arjen. I am grateful you pointed out the importance of /usr/sbin/ to me. I also saw the info. yo...

Re: How to copy Firefox-esr bookmarks to another OS

Thanks, grizzler, for your admonition to copy the .sqlite files when firefox-esr was NOT running. I successfully upgraded from Debian 9 to Debian 10 using solydk_10_64_201909.iso burned to DVD. sam@solydk:~/linux$ cat showme #!/bin/sh egrep -l '^Origin: Debian$' /var/lib/apt/lists/*Release \ | xargs...

How to copy Firefox-esr bookmarks to another OS

Yesterday, I burned solydk_10_64_201909.iso to DVD-$ and tried it on my AMD64 machine running solydk 9. It looks great! It looks like an improvement to my stretch version of solydk 9. So I am thinking about saving my URLs for Firefox-ESR 60.9.0esr(64-bit) in solydk 9 so I can save them to an externa...

Re: Hi everyone!

Welcome drum,

I too turned back to solydk because it is stable and solid. I am good at breaking things, and so far solydk has held up to my daily use. I am a KDE plasma fan.

How to move icons on KDE Taskbar ? <SOLVED!>

The Taskbar in KDE plasma is the panel (viewport) containing the K icon and application program icons to quickly start any KDE program by clicking on the icon. I can easily move the small (half-height) icons to the left or to the right by clicking the L mouse button when the mouse cursor is over a s...

Re: kalarm not working in solydk stretch

Thank you for your two suggestions, ilu. I tried both. Both failed. So I removed kalarm. I conclude that kalarm does NOT work w/ KDE. Should I also remove the packages that the first webpage suggested, akonadi-server kdepim-runtime kmail knotes kontact korganizer ? I guess that I should remove these...

kalarm not working in solydk stretch

Hi, Last week I got a new hard drive because my old one died. I reinstalled solydk_9_64_201902.iso to /dev/sdb. This is on a 64-bit AMD CPU. When I tried to run kalarm from the K icon, nothing appeared. However, a quick Konsole check revealed the process to be running in the background: user@solydxk...

Re: APT error messages encountered for Stretch SolydK x86_64

Okay, thank you, Arjen, for the detailed explanation. One thing doesn't seem right to me--I repeated the apt reinstall command in your second post as user. I was prompted for my user password and entered it before the command was executed. It seems to be that this command ought to be a superuser com...

Re: New American user

Thank you, Arjen. I removed rdp and winpr libraries using the command you recommended. Now the application xfreerdp is gone too. APT reported the freeing of 10.1 MiB of drive space. I saved a list of the libraries added/deleted, as I do whenever I change anything with APT. (just so that I can learn ...

New American user

Hello from the U.S.A., I have been using the power and stability of Debian-derivatives for more than ten years. Recently another user on the KiCAD forum suggested I update my Debian jessie linux OS to stretch. So I searched for a day or two and tried several Debian distributions with KDE before tryi...

Re: Need help installing SolyK to existing partition

Yes, ilu, the MX system still boots. My objective is simply to save the user files on the /home partition. I backed up all the user files onto external media on June 2nd. I've saved a few incremental file changes since then onto a USB stick. srq2625, thank you for your suggestions. I don't know if t...
