The Quiet User of SolydXK

Solyd is pronounce "Solid" and the X is for the Xfce desktop environment whereas the K is for the KDE desktop environment which the SolydXK developers seem to support more of Xfce. So it's a solid implementation of Xfce or KDE on a Debian based system. The developers have roots in Linux Mint KDE. An...

Eventually will I need a new install?

I've been using this distro for about 2 months now and like it. I understand it's foundation is Debian Stable and the bulk of the software in the install will not change for the next year or two.

After that year or two will I have to do a new install?

Re: I like this OS!

Lest there be confusion on the part of new-comers, SolydXK is NOT a rolling release. This distro has it's foundation in Debian Stable hence the bulk of the software in the install will not change for the next year or two. Well thank you for clarifying that Scott, and as an old BASIC, C++, pascal an...

Re: I like this OS!

Wow. Haven't heard that name Mandrake in quite awhile. Before that it was Mandrake's predecessor Mandriva, which I ran for years. Mandriva would have been the successor, not the predecessor. They had to change their name to Mandriva because of some kind of trademark conflict. I'd forgotten and yes ...

Getting better all the time

Originally, back in May 2017, I posted some discovered bugs in SolydXK in regard to the ability to play Facebook games. I was able to solve the problem with a work-around which I posted and marked the post as "Solved." See https://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6829&p=64869&hilit=wayneb#p648...

Re: [Solved] Rhythmbox

Yeah, I rambled too much. Thank you for your concern. I managed to find a workaround for that problem.

Thank you.

p.s. You guys really do seem to be a close-knit, friendly community.

[Solved] Rhythmbox

I installed Rhthmbox and received this message: Could not load the music database: The database was created by a later version of Rhythmbox. This version of Rhythmbox cannot read the database. The update manager reports my software is up to date. I do have music and podcasts that I downloaded using ...

Re: Get FireFox to work with Facebook Games

grizzler, I saw you reponded. Thank you so much. Yes it looks odd. Schoelje, thank you for being involved. I know this is basically your ditro, and it's very impressive. So refreshing to be away from both Linux Mint and Ubuntu's grasp, but I know you must tire of the compliments. I'm sick with the f...

Re: [Solved] Why wasn't the Flash problem ever fixed?

I think it's the game.

I'm sick with the flu. Feel awful. I'll look at this later. I can't deal with it now. Fever, glands in neck swollen, aches and pains. Ugh. Thank you.

Get FireFox to work with Facebook Games

I found this distribution excellent. Yet I found a little problem. Sitting next to me is my wife's computer, running Windows 10, and she loves to play Facebook games. I discovered that some of those games wouldn't work with FireFox in SolydXK. Here's how I fixed it. 1) Open a terminal and login as r...

Re: [Solved] Why wasn't the Flash problem ever fixed?

I did manage to get Firefox to work with these stupid Facebook games but not out of the box. Here's what I did and found out. First off, I earlier suggested it might have been because FireFox ESR was the default browser rather than Firefox. This was not true and had no relevance. In Firefox's error ...

The problem IS fixed!

Okay. It works now. But only in Chromium, not Firefox. Firefox still says the same thing. Perhaps it's Firefox itself since by sefault Solydxk uses Firefox ESR. I will explore that and report back. I'm not sure what I did to make it work, but it does now work and I'm very happy. I did just try reins...

Re: Why wasn't the Flash problem ever fixed?

Yeah, I know. HTML5 is pretty cool and I write stuff in HTML5 too, and kudos for correctly acknowledging the general rant. Other than I can't run a Facebook game and you don't play Facebook games I don't know what else I can tell you. Do it for testing purposes, exactly as I did. See for yourself. W...

[Solved] Why wasn't the Flash problem ever fixed?

I'm brand new to solydxk, but not at all new to Linux. I'm not a developer or anything like that. Just I guy in America. I'm an old fart 64 years old. Been using Linux since 2000 and before that OS2 from IBM. Since have also used BSD, and all the main versions of Linux. Started with Redhat before it...

Re: Facebook Games Flash Player

This is an old-old thread and this is the first time ever I posted anything on this forum. However, the Facebook game/Flashplayer issue is definitely a problem and obviously hasn't gone away. I'm a first time user of solydx/xfce, long time Linux end user. By long time I mean about 16 years pretty mu...
