Re: Is XFCE on it's last legs?
As much I love XFCE, I've been wondering the same thing lately. 4.10 is getting old, 4.11 (the development version of XFCE) is a mess and 4.12 is no nearer to release than it was a year ago. Not to mention (or maybe it should be mentioned, because this is probably the cause of a large number of XFCE...

Re: What are now my options for newer apps?
So will have to look into my other options to get Krita 2.8 and Calibre fixes. Calibre is easy. From the website ( http://calibre-ebook.com/download_linux) sudo -v && wget -nv -O- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/kovidgoyal/calibre/master/setup/linux-installer.py | sudo python -c "import sys; main...

Just what's here https://wiki.xfce.org/releng/4.12/roadmap
Reading between the lines in other distros' forums/channels, xfce is suffering from a severe manpower shortage which affects what they can do, how much and when.

The main object of the post was really the first paragraph (su cannot be executed as a subprocess [now]) rather than the result (I always wanted to name something with a recursive acronym) Didn't want you to waste time/enegy/beer on trying to solve a problem that had no real internal solution.

I have no idea why gksu is giving that error :? In a another distro that I dabble in (Salix OS), this sort of problem came up in the last upgrade development cycle. Not sure if it's really any help but here's what they had to say about it: http://salixos.blogspot.com/2013/11/the-gksu-problem.html ....

Re: I can't seem to find an icon set in SolydX
Xfce and KDE are two different DEs with different personalities, I don't see the need to make them look the same indeed :) but SolydX and SolydK are 2 faces of the same distribution, so it makes sense to have continuity (even visual) True Dat :) And I do understand the reasoning behind the decision...

Edit: I was mistaken, the icon theme is call elementary-xfce-darker . Be careful when transposing icon sets between distros (or importing from the source) to get everything you need. For example, elementary-xfce-darker "Inherits=elementary-xfce-dark" (from the index.theme, hint hint), which "Inheri...

From a very limited google search of this problem (months ago), it appears that is a pulseaudio problem, and pulseaudio uses a seperate code for mute and unmute (but I could be misremembering, or just plain wrong). Rather that play around with any one of the many solutions I found, I just got rid of...
