Re: Font rendering is bad in Firefox ESR (SolydX live)

Your fonts look fine indeed. I discovered that if I change the FF ESR default font to Noto Sans (Like Mint uses for default) it looks already much better! BTW, I ran MX Linux live and had the same problem. Maybe it has something to do with the limited resolution of my laptop. (1600x900 for 17 inch)....

Re: Font rendering is bad in Firefox ESR (SolydX live)

I know what is fine. If I go to https://solydxk.nl/ the characters of the main text "SolydXK is an open source operating system...." are printed fat and not sharp, like I'm looking through glasses with too strong lenses. In Mint the text looks normal and very sharp. It only happens in FF ESR not in ...

Font rendering is bad in Firefox ESR (SolydX live)

Hello, As a SolydX newbie I noiticed that font rendering in Firefox ESR is far from optimal, it hurts my eyes while I can get the "normal" fonts pretty OK via the Font settings (Aliasing on,RGB, medium). This keeps me from SolydX right now although I love this distro. When I run Mint 18.3 Maté font ...

Re: Plasma does not start anymore

This trick helped me with Neon KDE but not with SolydK. Tried everything including reboots, recovery mode but nothing helped. I need a solid laptop for daily use so right now I'm running SolydX, Xfce is not my favorite DE but it runs fast and stable for now. I'm still not 100% convinced about the st...

Plasma does not start anymore

Hello all, So happy with my SolidK 9 until today. Yesterday I have shut my laptop in the regular way as always. Power down. Guess what, this morning Plasma does not start at all! After login the KDE logo appears for a while like usual and then the screen gets dark with only the mouse cursor which I ...

Re: Hello from a Dutch new user

Thanks for the warm welcome to the community. I have experienced already that people are very helpfull.
Kernel works fine, good to know that security updates are installed automatically.

And my laptop runs very stable with SolydK :-)

HP Photosmart 5520 Scanner not found

Hello,

My HP Photosmart 5520 prints 100% fine in SolydK 9 but SkanLite and XSane can not find any scanner while the device is connected by usb cable.
It used to work in Mint 18.2 KDE and Cinnamon.

Anyone who can help? Thanks in advance...

Regards, Folkert

Re: Syslogd error message

It showed up again today while the system was not very busy, FF57 running only after a fresh boot. Issued the dmesg command you proposed but no result. Anyway, it's not a big deal while the pc runs fine. I was just curious and it's my first "weird" error message in a Linux distro in 5 years. I will ...

Re: Syslogd error message

Guess I have to wait until the message appears again... errors are gone. folkert@asus-r704a:~$ dmesg | grep ERROR dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Bewerking niet toegestaan folkert@asus-r704a:~$ sudo dmesg | grep ERROR [sudo] wachtwoord voor folkert: folkert@asus-r704a:~$ Thanks for the quick reply...

Syslogd error message

Hello all, Running SolydK for about a week now on my Asus R704A laptop. Just got my first error message although the laptop keeps running fine. Appears to be something about power saving. I have installed tlp (default settings) and battery drain is normal. Has anyone an idea what this message means?...

Re: HP Photosmart printer worked on SolydX 8 but not SolydX 9?

Hi, Just started 2 days ago with SolidK 9 and SolydX 9 after 5 years Mint. And guess what? I have a Photosmart 5520 too! If you scan for printers SolidX 9 unfold the network printers tree as it is not expanded and displayed immediately. If you add the printer in SolidX 9 do not choose the defaulted ...

Hello all,

Can anyone tell me how to display the battery percentage when I hover the battery indicator? This used to work by default in my previous distro Mint 18.2 KDE. Could not find a similar topic...

Re: Eventually will I need a new install?

Hello, I started using SolidK yesterday. It's not really clear to me what is the end of life date of SolidK 9 in terms of getting new features and next in terms of getting security updates. I'm a Mint 18 KDE refugee as Mint will drop KDE at version 19. Can you tell us details?

Kind regards, Folkert

Hello from a Dutch new user

Just started using SolidK. Have been using Mint for at least 5 years after abandoning MS Windows forever. Started with Cinnamon, switched to KDE Plasma later on which I like very much. Mint is dropping KDE while focusing on Cinnamon so I became a KDE refugee who started distro hopping. Tried KaOS (i...
