Solyd-BSD

I have been playing around with several BSD distros. There was once an Ubuntu-BSD and there still is a DebiankfreeBSD. I have both installed in virtualbox. Wondering if I added SolydX64 repositories to one of them and ran apt-get update and apt-get upgrade what would happen. A) not boot B) replace t...

Re: Starting Python development

Saw on Betanews today. Learning Python E-Book for free. https://betanews.com/2017/05/17/get-lea ... alue-free/
They seem to want business users, but let me download a copy anyway. I never got to far last time I tried to learn python...(frowny face.)

Re: (Pointless ranting to you guys) Windows Rant

I still cannot boot Win7, and this is before I have even installed Linux. Go ahead and install SolydXK on the first hard drive, Grub should automatically find the old Win 7 and put an entry for it. I would be a little scared to use a Windows 7 that I have not installed myself. If you have a HP/Comp...

Re: Persistent SolydXK USB pen drive

Fargo I am trying to install on a 16GB flash drive using the nightly SolydX ISO. I don't have a SSD, but I presume they are different. I am a slow learner. My first post was just questions because I wanted to get it right the first time. Never happens for me. My virtualbox install might be screwed u...

Re: Persistent SolydXK USB pen drive

Problems so far. From fully updated SolydX64, I installed VirtualBox. It worked, but in Step 1there were no options for 64-bit Linux.(What did I miss?) So I am trying from VirtualBox running under Win7. The 64 bit options are available. Under selecting storage I used Ide secondary like in the pictur...

Re: Persistent SolydXK USB pen drive

Thanks, will give this a try soon. If using a 16GB pen drive would the partition sizes change? Also my old computer does not have EFI, just the old style bios. Does this matter? Finally, will this survive updating? On some other persistent linux installs running the update causes problems. Thanks ag...

Re: Phinx Desktop

Thanks for filling in the details, MR. B, like Paul Harvey used to say, now we know "the rest of the story." I still keep an eye on the PCLinux forum. IKA's community xfce has recently been updated as well as Mignon http://mignon.mypclinuxos.com another xfce spin. I take a look at Xfce distros whene...

Re: Nightly builds

Tried the August 15 Xfce64 ISO in virtual box and on live USB. No problems. Is there anything I should look for to test?
Being resistant to change, I went back to the Oxygen with Gnome Icons. Still no problems.

Re: Howto mimic ChromeOS in a Linux system

My son's school is switching to Chromebooks. I would not mind learning a little about them. From what I can tell, the hardware is not impressive on what they have. I'd be interested in what you did. May try the Chromixium as well. Thanks

Re: Printer Question What password?

Baby steps please. Is there a basic how to hook up a network printer tutorial? I don't know how to set permissions, don't know what Samba is or if I need it. Don't know if I need Cups, think I have the drivers installed. Never set up a workgroup as far as I remember. When I go to add a network print...
