If you are using Virtual Box, you can go into the Settings - Network for the virtual Machine and set the Network as Not Attached which should do the trick.

Re: Thunderbird and Links
Not sure whether this points to 4.12 being at fault but I have loaded an old xfce 4.10 and the link opening between my email and Firefox works as required, also tried Iceweasel and that also opens the links correctly. All settings are the same on both systems so it looks like I'll be leaving 4.12 as...

Re: Thunderbird and Links

I tried with Firefox as my browser but still no luck. I even updated my Palemoon to the latest version but that didn't help. I'll install anot...

Re: Boot error in Vbox
on grub interface press 'e' go to 'quiet splash' then add 'forcefsck' next to it. in that way you can add it on boot parameter without messing with grub conf file. if you want to permanently add a certain boot parameter, edit /etc/default/grub then add it next to 'quiet splash'. after that do 'sudo...

Re: Boot error in Vbox
add 'forcefsck' in the boot parameter. else, you can do it from a livecd. Thanks for the prompt response - adding to the boot parameter seems to be the easiest way for me but for an idiot oldie where would I add this parameter in the Grub 2 menu at the system start up, presuming of course that this...

Just returned to my inactive machine to find that a problem was present, I went to use the Update Manager which showed Updates Available but after clicking Update Manager I had only a Close message. Exited Solydx and restarted the vm, during boot the following messages appeared: 1. /Dev/sda2 contain...

Re: Virtual Box anomaly
I think my initial problem was that I have just started using VBox and just downloaded from the Oracle site which was of course the latest version which I then installed on my Win7 machine which is my Host. Certainly seems to be working ok, faster startup and shutdown and even my internet experience...

Re: Virtual Box anomaly
I realise this situation but the reality is that the version of the installed Virtual Box was 4.3.26 whereas the Guest Additions was 4.3.18 thereby causing the original problem, so I'm caught between a rock and a hard place, either continue with an out of sequence VB and Guest Additions install or t...

Re: Virtual Box anomaly
Well I think I resolved the problem, I uninstalled the old versions using Synaptic PM (4.3.18) and after reboot the Guest Additions were absent, I then reinstalled the latest version (4.3.26), rebooted, the error message was gone and my system was running a lot better, hopefully it will stay that wa...

Re: Virtual Box anomaly
The first apt policy command won't return anything useful because your VirtualBox is running on a Windows host. What is the version number there? Grizzler Checking the version number from the About Virtual Box on the main VB screen shows: 4.3.26 r98988 which I guess is at variance with the one quot...
