Re: fresh install 201411

Ok, so here's the thing, that worked, sorta. I went into linux mint opened the directory but had to use root permissions to copy /etc/skel to the home directory in solydx I used the file manager to change permissions of those files and folders to lizzi as they were owned by root in order to copy the...

Re: fresh install 201411

So why then isn't the home folder set up properly? Ive been using this method to manage multiple installs for years, of course, since some installers only allow the recognition of one physical disk for install, I've had to go back and edit fstab in many distros. Ubuntu derivatives haven't had that p...

Re: fresh install 201411

Well, i dont use a seperate home directory. I have found that with multiple installs it is problematic to have the same partition for all home directories. Multiple instances of linux cant all share the same home directory so that would require different user names for every install to keep them sep...

Re: Anyone using wine for anything

I think I got an idea to implement it.
1. install a debian with net installer without X.
2. install virtualbox
3. create and install the guest OS
4. launch the guest OS from terminal.

I wonder how i'd get a display or proprietary graphics working like that

Re: fresh install 201411

So essentially, the user home directory was never set up by the install. Copying all the root directory files into the user home directory gave me those files but then all those files are owned by root and can only be run by root and trying to change the permissions with chown or even a root run thu...

Re: fresh install 201411

cd /home/machine ???? no such directory

using cd /home/user then mv .Xauthority .Xauthority.old

no such file

checking fstab

UUID=number hidden /home/user/Downloads ext4 rw,errors=remount-ro 0 2

that 2 seems odd
