Re: Community ISO maintenance and build issues - 2

The change in adjustment packages went well and my system now shows SolydK EE 11 64-bit, in the appropriate places.

One other important thing that stands out is the MX user manual.

Re: MX-Linux success: why?

All the above covers most of MX-Linux success. Debian stable base with ongoing backports and additions. No systemd by default. Although that may change with Buster developments. Focus on a single desktop. The Antix LiveUSB features. The extensive MX Tools. The Mepis history and connection. One other...

Re: SolydXK 10 Preview and Testing

I completed the attached test sheet with the Solydx install from my last post. I'm unable to change my user icon. The error: Failed to execute child process "mugshot" (No such file or directory). Mugshot is not installed or available in Synaptic. Overall the system works great. SolydXK ISO test case...

Re: SolydXK 10 Preview and Testing

I've got a virtualbox install of SolydX10 that functions great after a couple shutdowns and some customization. Looks great! I completed a hardware install to existing partitions on another system, and that was also a success. Installed on an AMD chipset with an A10 GPU. Live system and install work...

Re: SolydXK 10 Preview and Testing

I downloaded the Solydx ISO and verified the sha256sum. I was unable to boot into it in Virtualbox. Using dd to put on a usb also failed to provide a successful boot. I tried a second ISO download on a different computer and had the same issue. At attempted boot the trials fail with: "FATAL: Could n...

Very happy to hear we'll still be able to use Synaptic.
Thank you!

Re: [How To]Installing applications from the server

Use Synaptic Package Manager. It's very easy to use if you know the names of the packages you want to install. I prefer it over the older package manager.
There's also Packages in the System menu.

Updating SolydK EE

I've had good success using the update notification in SolydK EE, which uses Discover, to perform updates. For the past few weeks I no longer see the percent progress of a running update in Discover. Is anyone else observing this? Is it still a good idea to update with Discover? The updates do event...

Re: Contemplating a move to Solyd XK - "X"

I'm very happy with both SolydX and SolydK. SolydX is my preferred OS for both my laptops. It's been on my 2009 HP since 2014. I just installed SolydX EE on my new System 76. I also like to install SolydX virtual machines on my desktop systems. SolydK runs on my testing desktop and is dual booting w...

Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

Yesterday morning I installed SolydX EE to my System 76 Gazelle. Pop!-OS wasn’t to my liking and surprisingly, startup times were much longer than I experience on my 9 year old HP laptop with SolydX-9, plus the touchpad didn’t function totally to my satisfaction, despite the laptop coming with Pop!-...

Re: WHY is this OS so SUPER SLOW??

A minor point first, SolydK is based on Debian Stable rather than Mint. I'm running SolydK on an older system using an AMD A10-5800K with 8 GB RAM and a hybrid hard drive, not even an ssd. It performs very smooth and fast for me. For example, after starting up the system today I ran an analysis: $ s...

Re: SolydXK on Social Media

While I voted no, since I have absolutely no use for Facebook and only as a last resort look up information on it, there are many peolpe who use it as their "go to source." After further thought, a basic info page that directs those interested in learning more to the SolydXK websight couldn't hurt.

Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

I tested the new Solydx iso as a live usb. The only issue I found was Document Viewer and LibreOffice would not run in live mode. After installation in a VB, they worked fine. Love the performance in VB.

Re: Improve on-line privacy of users - Firefox add-ons poll

While there's overlap in the function of Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin they work different enough to complement each other. Privacy Badger "learns" and improves with use without requiring custom configuration or settings, making it especially good for less knowledgeable users. I think that makes ...
