Re: XFCE crashes after LTSP install

Yes, the dpkg error disappeared by repeating the last command. I run the memtest86 overnight and all seems well. Checked both ssd and hdd with "smartctl --time=normal /dev/sdX" and "smartctl -a /dev/sdX" from live usb. Both fine. So [sigh] I guess I'll start form scratch if I can't sort this out. An...

Re: XFCE crashes after LTSP install

Hi Ilu, First of all, thanks for looking into this! I made some hasty decisions, indeed. Let me just follow your list. 1. Check. But /home is separate hdd anyway. Root is on ssd. Faulty drive...? 2. OK, you are right. I never needed kerberos in the past, neither with LTSP nor with XFCE, so I chucked...

XFCE crashes after LTSP install

I got myself into trouble here; I installed LTSP over the weekend and got it working on the clients. But now the server with SolydX suffers from XFCE crashes. This happens every 5-30 minutes, and I loose all my work and have to log in again on lightdm. I don't think X11 crashes because the client se...

Re: Thunar custom actions

I wrote a bash script that scrubs meta data from PDF files, and I use it as a custom action from Thunar. Being a bash script, off course it can be run from terminal or through other file managers. This is my first bash script from scratch, so I am sure there is plenty to improve on; just let us know...

Please update GPG and SHA values on the download pages.
They seem to be missing (404 error). Thanks!

Re: Troubleshooting VPN?

Just a late tip to add to this topic; how do you know if your VPN connection works?
On a machine with GUI one could use https://www.iplocation.net/
But how to check your VPN on a headless machine? I found below command handy:

Code: Select all

whois $(curl icanhazip.com) | grep country

Re: wicd applet

Networkmanager and Wicd don't like each other. I had trouble with that, and wicd would not work untill I disabled all instances of networkmanager. It seems quite integrated in the OS, for example my bluetooth app tried to get networkmanager to restart. You may want to search and kill with 'htop'. Fi...

Thunar print multiple PDF, custom action (SOLVED)

I thought this would be an easy new custom action to Thunar, printing multiple PDF files. But I cannot find the right command... This would seem a common issue for office work, so please let me know your solution. Tried 'evince', which works fine, but I don't want to open file by file for printing. ...

Thanks! That seems to work! After a very slow install I got: FATAL:zygote_host_impl_linux.cc(107)] No usable sandbox! Brave browser [Solved]

What is the recommend way to install Brave browser?
These instucctions on Github don't do the trick; the content of /etc/apt/sources.list.d/brave-solydxk.list only contains "OK" instead of a repo, and breaks package management.

Re: SiWapp versus Frontaccounting

Yes, this whole pinning business is scary. Great if it works, but great trouble if it doesn't. I have now commented out the BE repos in the sources.list, just to be sure. Now, I'll be careful when upgrading, if at all. The system is still 99% 'testing', it only pulled in the Siwapp package from 'sta...

Re: SiWapp versus Frontaccounting

Thanks Zill, I was afraid of something like that. I think at the time I installed Solydxk the BE was KDE only, and I preferred XFCE, and hence took the HE. So if my current HE setup is the future BE setup, and I indeed want to change to BE, then I suppose I'll leave my system like it is. It works fo...

Re: SiWapp versus Frontaccounting

Err, no. The corrupted database was backed up correctly. My victory lasted for three days, and then mysqld failed and I could not access phpMyAdmin anymore. I tried to find a solution, and I think I found it, here we go. What I think may have caused the problem: I use SolydX Home Edition and it seem...

Re: SiWapp versus Frontaccounting

Got it. It is working again. Conclusion: something corrupted the MySql database and took down Siwapp. I followed the advise by Schoelje, and came to the dpkg-reconfigure, and said yes to building a new database. It complained about an existing siwapp database. This needs removing first, through http...

Re: SiWapp versus Frontaccounting

Mayblade, nothing comes to mind. The latest system update was a whole list. No other MySQL application and Apache only serves out Siwapp.

Schoelje, I get a 404 error on that one! So the problem might be there!
