Re: Thunar custom actions

Last night I put this one together, a custom action for merging pdf files into one file. It works on file names with spaces, and can save to a file name with spaces. #! /usr/bin/env bash # pdf_merge for merging pdf docs in Thunar by Tuna130 # Dependencies: ghostscript/pdftk, zenity # Place this scri...

SolydX dual boot: Windows 10 on legacy MBR with hdd drive for /home in GPT format.

I bought a refurbished pc with an SSD that has Windows 10 Professional pre-installed, and wished to install SolydX to dual boot. I had added my old internal hard drive to the system as a secondary SATA drive. The system drive with Windows is MBR partitioned, but my old ‘/home’ folder is on a hdd whi...

Re: Grub is installed and updated, but doesn't start the system

Thank you for your help. I have been ofline a while, because I completely bricked my NUC5i5. I am not saying this was caused by the udate to Buster, nor by any of the EFI boot issues. There probably was a hardware issue at play. Chain of events as follows. I went into the BIOS settings to see if I w...

Re: Grub is installed and updated, but doesn't start the system

Back from abroad, thanks for your replies! Below output of the bootinfoscript. There seems to be a problem with core.img not found... Ilu, I saw your post , FYI my system is not encrypted, and only one OS, and I could not work out how you solved it... Also alarming, there is no file bootx64.efi, in ...

Re: Grub is installed and updated, but doesn't start the system

I am having the same problem as OP. I can only boot through typing manual commands in the Grub command line. Even a live usb will not boot by itself, only through manual commands at Grub shell. I have reinstalled grub to /dev/sdb through a minimal Debian live system (Buster), but no change yet. Then...

Re: XFCE crashes after LTSP install

Yes, the dpkg error disappeared by repeating the last command. I run the memtest86 overnight and all seems well. Checked both ssd and hdd with "smartctl --time=normal /dev/sdX" and "smartctl -a /dev/sdX" from live usb. Both fine. So [sigh] I guess I'll start form scratch if I can't sort this out. An...

Re: XFCE crashes after LTSP install

Hi Ilu, First of all, thanks for looking into this! I made some hasty decisions, indeed. Let me just follow your list. 1. Check. But /home is separate hdd anyway. Root is on ssd. Faulty drive...? 2. OK, you are right. I never needed kerberos in the past, neither with LTSP nor with XFCE, so I chucked...

XFCE crashes after LTSP install

I got myself into trouble here; I installed LTSP over the weekend and got it working on the clients. But now the server with SolydX suffers from XFCE crashes. This happens every 5-30 minutes, and I loose all my work and have to log in again on lightdm. I don't think X11 crashes because the client se...

Re: Thunar custom actions

I wrote a bash script that scrubs meta data from PDF files, and I use it as a custom action from Thunar. Being a bash script, off course it can be run from terminal or through other file managers. This is my first bash script from scratch, so I am sure there is plenty to improve on; just let us know...

Re: Troubleshooting VPN?

Just a late tip to add to this topic; how do you know if your VPN connection works?
On a machine with GUI one could use https://www.iplocation.net/
But how to check your VPN on a headless machine? I found below command handy:

Code: Select all

whois $(curl icanhazip.com) | grep country

Re: wicd applet

Networkmanager and Wicd don't like each other. I had trouble with that, and wicd would not work untill I disabled all instances of networkmanager. It seems quite integrated in the OS, for example my bluetooth app tried to get networkmanager to restart. You may want to search and kill with 'htop'. Fi...

Thunar print multiple PDF, custom action (SOLVED)

I thought this would be an easy new custom action to Thunar, printing multiple PDF files. But I cannot find the right command... This would seem a common issue for office work, so please let me know your solution. Tried 'evince', which works fine, but I don't want to open file by file for printing. ...

Brave browser [Solved]

What is the recommend way to install Brave browser?
These instucctions on Github don't do the trick; the content of /etc/apt/sources.list.d/brave-solydxk.list only contains "OK" instead of a repo, and breaks package management.
