CrunchBang is gone!!

Really bad news, Corenominal - developer and maintainer of #! is stepping back and discontinuing this fantastic distro. It was the best of the super lightweight Debian spin offs, I have used it a lot over the past couple of years. It's even listed as discontinued on Distrowatch already. Very sad to ...

Re: BE to Wheezy upgrade

Thanks Zill. Yes I always use a separate /home partition, so I was able to install Mint directly to the / partition without any data loss. I always check the MD5/SHA1 checksums with GTKHash for every iso download I do. If they don't match, I don't use the iso. The iso did run properly as a live sess...

Re: BE to Wheezy upgrade

Yeah, I just found out.
I am installing Mint 17.1 KDE now to replace SolydK. Support until 2019 but I prefer SolydK....never mind, and thanks again.

Re: BE to Wheezy upgrade

No problem, thanks for this distro - I have enjoyed using it over the past year or so. Sometimes things just don't work out. If a fix is found I'll be back. I'll try any new iso images you put out just in case....is there any chance the SolydX iso would behave any differently? I'm guessing not. I ha...

Re: BE to Wheezy upgrade

I tried all the options but no joy. Looks as though my install is gone now. I also took Schoelje's advice and got the new iso to boot up properly but it freezes during the install just at the point where i have entered my username and password - no further progress. Looks nice though..... I will hav...

Re: BE to Wheezy upgrade

Well.. Grizzler...the nomodeset option at least now boots to a plain blue screen with a paler blue blank square in the centre. I figured this was the login screen despite the lack of any dialogue box or username, so I typed in my password and after some wild flickering the screen went black but at l...

Re: BE to Wheezy upgrade

Re: BE to Wheezy upgrade

That is nasty. Is the screen completely black or does it still have some text somewhere? I.e. could it be a terminal screen? What kind of graphics does this machine have? No text, a completely black screen - the monitor goes into power saving mode and then out again, backlight lit, but no text, cur...

Re: BE to Wheezy upgrade

I'll try that, I hadn't noticed the install upgrade button highlighted (late night last night). Thanks for "waking me up"
Slightly off topic, I downloaded the new iso but it won't boot for me, just a black screen followin the initial options screen

Thanks, I too have done this before, but it's been a while so I needed to double check.
I downloadeed the new Solydk this afternoon so I will give it a spin asap.

Re: SolydK BE

If I wait for the Jessie based new ISO, can I just do a fresh install using my existing /home partition and data? (I will back it up first to be on the safe side)

Re: 2 Years since switching to Linux!

Do any of us use Linux distros because they "just work"? I doubt it, we are all incurable "fiddlers", we like to tinker with settings and set-ups, or else we would be like the majority who use Windows because someone else does all the work and makes all the decisions for them. Not saying that I do m...

Re: 2 Years since switching to Linux!

I have been using various Linux distros for two and a half years now since taking the plunge with a Vista/Mint 13 dual boot in 2012. My main workhorse is now Solydk BE with Windows 7, 8 and 10 running, when needed, in VM Ware player (Win 8 is still the best way, IMHO, to back up Windows user profile...
