Re: Problem installing node.js and ZIP drive

Gents... My apologies but I can't get involved with this at the moment as my wife, Marie, is currently in hospital and so I have other priorities. I really don't have any specific knowledge about this problem and, from a quick glance, Ilu seems to be doing just what I would do... search around looki...

Re: Problem installing node.js and ZIP drive

I don't know when you last updated SolydXK but your kernel is six months behind the current version, which is Debian 3.16.39-1+deb8u2 (2017-03-07). https://packages.debian.org/jessie/linux-image-3.16.0-4-586 This probably is not relevant to your problem but, I suggest, it is generally recommended to...

Re: Problem installing ZIP drive

1. I could not find a directory called "modules" in /etc. Just /etc/modules-load.d/modules.conf. I am puzzled by this as, on my system, /etc/modules does exist: roger@dino:~$ ls -l /etc | grep module -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 195 Nov 6 2014 modules drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jan 15 11:30 mo...

Re: Problem installing node.js and ZIP drive

... I have to use from time to time, an Iomega Zip100 parallel port drive. I found this command: modprobe -v ppa This fails in SolydXK Have you tried editing "/etc/modules" and adding "ppa" as suggested in the following link: http://lifeofageekadmin.com/read-iomegazip-100-drive-...

Re: SolydX-EE as bridge to SolydX Stretch

... I'd like to install a modern kernel and software, but have a stable system based in Debian Stretch when it will be released because it will be used to work. It's a good idea to install SolydX-ee now and change the repositories when the new Solydx be released? IMHO, you could install SolydX-EE n...

WayneB: I'm pleased you got this working. :-) To mark the thread as solved, you need to edit your first post in this thread and add the prefix [Solved] to the title. Only the OP (Original Poster) can do this. If you have any more problems just use the search facility (button at the top of the screen...

Re: SolydXK 9 (stretch) alpha build testing

I would not be at all happy to lose (the original) gksudo as this command has always worked well for me and has totally predictable results. FWIW, I never set a root user and so only use sudo (or gksudo) for root authentication. I have never had any problems, or found any restrictions, with this mod...

Re: Wireless issue using SolydK EE

I am not sure how "ath3k" appears in the module list. Maybe you could try blacklisting this and see if it makes a difference. :?

Other than that, I don't think I can help much further with this. I don't run testing for a reason... ;)

Re: Wireless issue using SolydK EE

It seems to me that the ath9k driver is the correct one for your card (0cf3:e005). I suggest that you open a terminal, maximise the window and then post the output of the following three commands: apt policy firmware-atheros apt policy initramfs-tools lsmod | grep ath p.s. has this card ever worked ...

Re: Breakages and News tracking Debian Testing

ilu: A good point! I am not at all sure that NM and the Gnome applet is used with KDE/plasma but I believe it was the default NM for both SolydX and SolydK originally. However, times change and maybe this is no longer the case. Unfortunately, I can't comment on nm-applet or plasma-nm. Hopefully one ...

Re: Breakages and News tracking Debian Testing

MAYBL8: Sorry, but I am running out of road on this one... I only run stable (jessie) here and so your problem could be related to testing (stretch). Alternatively, it could be a KDE/Plasma issue as, again, I use XFCE here. Hopefully, someone else running SolydK EE should be able to advise further o...

Re: Breakages and News tracking Debian Testing

MAYBL8: You need to install both network-manager and network-manager-gnome.

After a reboot, you should be able to right-click on the NM panel icon to edit connections. Little configuration should be required as the defaults are quite sane and an ethernet connection should work out-of-the-box.

Re: Breakages and News tracking Debian Testing

Then went into wicd and connected to the wifi I have at my house. This may be what is complicating matters! AIUI, Wicd is not installed by default with Debian jessie (or stretch). Instead, NetworkManager is the default connection manager. These two managers are incompatible with each other and so o...

Re: Question about package Housework :-)

Personally, I would not remove any packages unless I was certain this would not cause any problems.

Unless you are really short of disk space, my advice is just to leave packages installed as the space they take up is trivially small.
