Re: So what's your take on Manjaro?

Pros over SolydXK: I found Nvidia drivers to be more up to date. Cons over SolydXK: It eventually broke a few packages over an upgrade, and I already deleted my cache to save space. Arch based distros are just too unstable for my taste, but Debian Testing is too conservative on some things such as N...

UEFI Dual Boot Installation Guide?

I'm planning to buy a new computer, and I'm going to want to dual boot Windows 8 for my gaming needs. I know that I'll need to disable secure boot, but from my understanding, the current installer doesn't allow UEFI. Is there a guide in getting SolydXK to dual boot with Windows 8 on a new computer? ...

I second qBittorrent.

I liked it better than QTransmission and Ktorrent.

Re: Forum Idea: Security Discussion Area?

The inclusion of SELinux by default and Hard Drive Encryption in the installer would harden security, but the average user won't need these.

Re: SteamOS graphics divers

if anyone wants to update to newer drivers use sgfxi: Step 1: Logout, and go to terminal, and login as root: cd /usr/local/bin && wget -Nc smxi.org/sgfxi && chmod +x sgfxi && sgfxi Step 2: If you get an error of any kind, reboot, and run it again, and you should be good to go. Optional: If you're a ...

SteamOS graphics divers

I think Solydxk would benefit if all graphics divers are used or synced from SteamOS rather than Debian Testing.

Debian takes too long to get this updated in Testing, and Valve is already doing the testing of the updated drivers for us.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for the effort Zero, no pressure though. If you believe that packaging their updated graphics drivers and libraries will cause stabilty issues, then no need to do it. :)

Re: Munich completes migration - “Freedom from you, Mr. Gate

I was just thinking: what would we need to do to make SolydK BE patent free so that governmental institutions could use it? Even if you tried, there will always be lawyers trying to find the 5th leg of the cat to find a flaw. Samsung and Google have their fair share of law suits and both are corper...

Re: Pipelight by default

It appears that libjack0:i386 is no longer a dependency for the newest version of pipelight. The instrunctions was questioning if it still was, so I removed this package and installed it without it, and it works! :) Yes, Pipelight by default. Ideally, it would be part of Solyd's repository and would...

Re: One Year Since I Switched To Linux

KDE is my desktop of choice as well. Out of all the other Desktop enviornment of choice, this one lets me customize to my content. I also seem to have a preference for KDE apps such as K3b, Amarok, Kdenlive, and even Quassel IRC. They'll work in other desktop enviornments, but it just meshes better ...

Re: systemd on Solydxk

Systemd is a dependency for Gnome 3, so Debian is stuck between portability and compatibility.

I personally think Linux is already the open source standard, so I'm more inclined to support Systemd.

Re: One Year Since I Switched To Linux

For me, it was/is a toss up between this and Manjaro. I picked this because I believe Debian is a more stable base, so a lesser possibility for breakage. The only thing that has me jealous is Manjaro having more up to date Nvidia drivers, but you know what they say about the grass being greener. Sol...

Re: SteamOS is HERE!!!

Do you think there is a possibility to make an option in DDM for SolydXK to sync with SteamOS's Kernel and Graphics Drivers at all times instead of Debian Testing?

Maybe Valve's optimization to the Kernel+updated drivers could make a difference for when we're using Steam.

Re: I've switched to SolydK today!

This is as Stable as rolling release gets, and this is why I like this Distro. Easy to install (Live DVD), easy to configure(DDM), easy to update(Update Manager).

The command line is pretty much optional if you ask me.

There has to be a logic and reasoning why it prompted you to remove packages on your system and not mine. It's beyond my knowlege at this point though.
