Re: SolydXK Dependencies

Do you have any interest in putting together a community version of your SolydXK minmalist system? My system is not minimalistic; it is personalized with numerous packages that I want/use. I just minimize what is on it by getting rid of all the things I can that I don't need/want. I don't consider ...

Re: SolydXK Dependencies

The next one is: What is it in the solydx-system-adjustments that has a dependency on gtk2-engines-pixbuf? The theme I use is dependent on gtk2-engines-murrine, so if there is nothing I use that needs gtk2-engines-pixbuf, I'd like to 'equiv' it out.

SolydXK Dependencies

I have two compulsions regarding my hobby with Linux: 1. I'm an upgrade junkie. I like to have the latest and (presumably, but not always) greatest. That's why I track Sid, use Liquorix, and so on. 2. I'm a minimalist. I don't want packages on my system that I don't need or use. For example, I don't...

Re: Backspace key hack

There are Debian security patches for this: https://security-tracker.debian.org/tra ... -2015-8370

To see if you have the security patches, run: apt-cache show grub2
Then compare the version it reports against the versions in the above page.

Re: Splitview under Thunar trick

I encountered a bug with this experimental Thunar. Whenever I tried to rename a file, the Thunar window closed. So I reverted back to the original. (Hey, but that's what experimental is all about.)

Re: Splitview under Thunar trick

While it might work the packages you list are for a Ubuntu based system and it is never a good idea to mix Ubuntu and Debian software packages "Never say never." Rather than an absolute admonition, I'd caution with "might lead to problems". Since I like to live on the edge, I tried it: wget -q http...

Re: How do I turn off update checks

I don't know how to do this for KDE, but for XFCE, you can turn off the autostart of the Update Manager (and hence turn off the automatic checking for updates) by going to Start Menu -> All Settings -> Session and Startup -> Application Autostart. Then un-check 'updatemanagertray'.

Re: How to exit Xserver to install Nvidia driver?

I use smxi (http://smxi.org/) to install Nvidia (and also Liquorix). I do it through the recovery console (which you access from the Grub menu on reboot).

Re: Name the Next Release

In keeping with the 'Solyd' part of the name, I propose we use types of rock, especially metamorphic rocks as they tend to be unusually hard. For example, 'granite', 'gneiss', 'slate', 'schist', 'kimberlite', etc..

Re: My personal experiments

I've adopted this approach for my system. I use smxi for Liquorix and Nvidia, and Clonezilla backups of the root and boot partitions. I also have a Clonezilla USB stick, just in case. Yes, I've had my glitches, but nothing that couldn't be reverted. I'm an "upgrade junkie", and this is feeding my ha...

Re: Breakages and News - SolydXK-tracking Debian SID

Upgrading from Sid today, I got the following: The following packages have been kept back: libtasn1-6:i386 The installed version is 4.4-3, and the version in Sid is now 4.5-2. If anyone can enlighten me on the following questions, it would be appreciated. What is causing this? Is there something tha...

This seems to indicate some sort of comparison bug in the UM. That's an issue I've seen reported before. Seen it myself as well. It doesn't always happen, in my experience. It actually looks to be an bug with UM not updating its internal lists. After I rebooted, UM properly showed updates with dmo ...

I was able to install SolydX 64-bit from the 2014-07-29 ISO without any issues. I did not install Plymouth as I have an Nvidia graphics card. Among other things, sysvinit-core contains the shutdown and reboot commands, so I don't think it will be uninstalled.

Re: UP - 01/07/2014 [TESTING]

Sorry, but I guess I wasn't clear. The problem is that I cannot run the Software Manager at all, and the above is the only indication of why. Okay, I figured this out. I have been purging packages that do not appear to be needed. I purged python-apt. That was the problem. When I re-installed python...
