Re: Silly if not stupid question

I have just posted a new message but see now that something must have gone wrong while submitting it: it does not show in the thread. So I think I will just write it again. About the installer: It has never been my intention, nor will it ever be, to bitch about people who do all this great work, oft...

Re: Silly if not stupid question

No, as I explained earlier 24/7/365 is not what I am aiming for. I just need a computer which works when I need it. The computer is not switched on 24/7, not by far. I will however stay with Mint, an OS I have used before starting with edition 13. Now I use 17, an LTS version, so I can use it for a ...

Re: Silly if not stupid question

The question was not that silly nor stupid, although ScottQuier thinks differently: "Yep - you pegged it ... that's both a silly and stupid question!! :     :ugeek:  " I was always taught there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. Guess I was wrong all these ...

Re: Silly if not stupid question

Tomorrow I will make a final backup of my data and start the installation process of SolydK-64. Let's just hope it will be what I hope it will be.
Thank you all for your answers, they helped me make the decision.

Re: Silly if not stupid question

Thank you Zero Angel, I know my hardware won't be a problem for the OS, all other OS's I have used run well on it. The Nvidia driver is still a question-mark since I don't know it it will stop the tearing pictures I have when watching a video. I now use the Nouveau driver and the picture is also not...

Re: Silly if not stupid question

Sorry not familar with newer stuff. As have a Amd X2 dual core,4gb ram,Ati 4350 running dual displays with the default Open driver. So not using anything new like UEFI or 8core or newer graphics running proprietary drivers. Maybe someone closer to your hardware can chime in. But if Mint KDE did wel...

Silly if not stupid question

Hi, As the title says it already this is a silly if not a stupid question. Nevertheless I want to put it here. I momentarily use LinuxMint 17 KDE-64. Even with this release being maintained for 5 years I do want to switch to a rolling release which has to have the KDE desktop of course. So I come to...

Re: Installing on a raid (with mdadm)

Thanks Jericho, just as I thought.
As soon as 17 KDE is available AND I have time I will go for it.

Thanks again.

Re: Installing on a raid (with mdadm)

I have seen and read your tutorial about installing Solydxk on RAID0, something I also wish to do. I have one question about your story: if I want to have a separate /home folder, would I just create an extra RAID0 and mount it in /target/home (for example). During installation I would then choose /...

Re: Graphical problems

My flavor of choice is KDE. I've installed the nvidia-driver on those machines with an Nvidia card. I've not (yet :) ) seen any display issues. On my tablet with an Intel GPU I, of course, don't have any non-free driver installed and I don't have any issues. I have gone through the Desktop Effects ...

Ha ha, you sound like a magician but in fact you are just reading the info I wrote in my profile. I wrote I want to be invisible on the net, what I really meant was, and sorry for my bad choice of words (English is not my primary language) is being anonymous. How can I do something on the internet w...

Proxy server

Hai, The thing is I want to be invisible on the internet with everything I do: surfing, e-mailing, chatting, everything. With all the eavesdropping you hear about I want to make myself invisible. Situation here is like this: I have 3 computers, 2 connected through a switch and 1 directly to a modem-...

Re: Back again trying Solydx

With Samba Share window you mean right-clicking on a folder and choose share? If so, then yes it is normal for those shares to not appear in the smb.conf file. The folders are shared, you probably get an extra symbol at the foldericon (atleast with SolydK I see that, don't know SolydX) and that's it...

Re: Documentation for XP users

Bad news people. Till now there has been nobody who is interested in helping to write a document for people who want to leave Windows XP behind and make the plunge into Linux, especially SolydXK. Since I will be getting another job, starting next week Monday, it will be impossible for me to continue...

Re: KDE Plasma 2 Technology Preview

Disabling Wobbly Windows? Why? They are the first I enable to get some movement in this static environment. When you see this new KDE you start wondering why people still use XFCE, Mate or Cinnamon. This looks so great. A bit strange though that the analog clock on the desktop is 5 minutes ahead of ...

Re: Documentation for XP users

I wrote in a previous message the following text: I agree with ilu that there should also be a part about the "beginning" as well, meaning which version to chose(what are the differences), how to install it, how to set it up correctly, dual boot, etc. Problem with this is there are so many different...

Hello Hubsi_Gberg It looks to me you are just the person we are waiting for to help with this project. Please say you want to help. You seem to know just what is needed. If you could write the part about installing SolydXK it would be so great. When you are interested just send me a private message ...
