Re: Two linux laptops, huge connection speed difference

Always worse..
Download rate (updates): 15.6kB/s
That's ridiculous!
which is why I use wget. Pause the download in browser and then restart download. It will get better speed sometimes.

By the way. You are comparing Wireless G and Wireless N Computer gear. Hers is a G. Yours is a N.

Re: Shrinking SolydX ISOs

Burn a PLOP CD Use Unetbootin or Rufus or Lili to install SolydXK to a usb drive. Boot the PLOP cd. Pick usb from Menu. Boot the USB drive. No need to shrink iso. This works because I have done this many many times, Even with a PLOP Floppy disc on a Panasonic CF-48 and IBM T23 with no dvd boot suppo...

Re: New forum colors

Easy on the eyes and the reply taskbar looks pretty easy peasy. I like how a description is given of a button on the toolbar when you hover your mouse pointer over a tab on the reply toolbar. Just tested edit to let you know i just went with Metro Blue instead of Metro Blue Sloydxk. Wish the layout ...

Re: Come on Mozilla

Hmmm. Strange, I don't Netflix so I cannot check there. I won't opt for a free trial to check either.

I don't consider this a Mozilla glitch so much as a Netflix glitch.
I gave up Hulu Desktop because of deliberate dropped Linux support by Hulu.

But then. I have always voted with my wallet.

Re: (Pointless ranting to you guys) Windows Rant

I used this http://partitionlogic.org.uk/download/ to do this I ran into that on this Compaq CQ57. It came with 4 primary partitions also. I found a free open source partition editor like gparted that had the capability of renaming the Windows 7 ntfs, primary, in your case; Quote: 912GB (NTFS Window...

I am no expert. But maybe try inserting a floppy disk

Code: Select all

sudo dmesg | tail
or

Code: Select all

sudo dmesg grep | sdc

Re: fd0 no longer recognized

ls -l /dev will show symlinks in there. You might be on to something with a missing symlink. I have seen this happen before on ~/.config hidden folder in /home/username. I do not use KDE. Sorry. Re: fd0 no longer recognized

Might want to cd into /dev in a terminal and do a ls to see what is listed in /dev.

Code: Select all

cd /dev
Hit enter/return key

Code: Select all

ls
hit enter/return key.

Re: Using old Sony Handycam as webcam and more.

Is this Laptop with it's own webcam. I ask because there may be a conflict. dmesg | tail might tell you something after you plug in the sony and try to use it. Be sure to turn it on if it has a on switch (I don't know, just guessing) My reading up on it shows it has firewire and usb hookups. Are you...
