Thunar freezes (solved)

For many many months now, Thunar has had an annoying bug where it suddenly freezes and becomes totally unresponsive. Finally, I found a pattern in the behavior, as it appears to be related to temporary files being created, then removed. As reported elsewhere (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...

Re: Update Manager : semi-bogus 'Updates available'

Zill: Not out of disrespect, but this is not about udev or me running a SolydX hybrid on an overclocked but completely stable system - this is about how the Update Manager determines when new packages are available for download. Everyone: It is true that I've blacklisted udev, but that's completely ...

Update Manager : semi-bogus 'Updates available'

Having updated Update Manager to version 2.1 (and updated to the latest packages), I see a 'There are updates available', but when opening UM the package list just shows 'udev - blacklisted'. I guess UM is kind of right - there are new packages available, only they cannot be installed, because they ...

Re: help needed - udev hell...

Great. That little "hold" trick made things a lot easier... now I'm down to only 5 packages that I can not install because they have dependencies to udev one way or another. All that was needed to get this far was the line # echo "udev hold" | dpkg --set-selections to make the "Update Manager" ignor...

Re: help needed - udev hell...

Yes, I'm trying to migrate from LMDE using the SolydXK repos. And so far it has been a success, compared to the result I got when I tried to upgrade to LMDE UP7, which left my system in a really bad state - package wise (it was running ok, but I experienced multiple conflicting dependencies that pre...

Re: help needed - udev hell...

Thanks for your input, kyodev. Problem is.... booting the system with the troublesome udev version installed, it never gets into a state where I can actually do what you suggest ;) The scenario is like: boot the OK system apt-get install udev (updates to udev version 204 and libudev version 175 - as...

help needed - udev hell...

I'm currently running a "LMDE-XFCE in transition to SolydX" system which has not been updated for a while, due to udev versions beyond 171-3 breaking the Linux boot process and crashing the system. I've been trying to upgrade my system for a while now (ever since LMDE 201204 got out) but even though...
