Re: Somehow my in-app icons for VLC changed recently

Damn. I need to find a way to change that. For Dodger fans that orange is even more offensive than that eye-searing green all over the Marlins' stadium.

Somehow my in-app icons for VLC changed recently

Last night I fired up VLC and I noticed that the in-app icons were orange, rather than what I think was a dark grey. I looked all through VLC and can't find what changed. VLC odd icon colors 20180521_220612.png As a fan of the LA Dodgers things colored orange are verboten on my system. I'm running S...

Re: Seeing a mystery indicator in my task manager

It's on the VLC tile in the picture, but I see it pretty often with Chrome, but not on the tab that's streaming the ballgame. I've also seen it on a tile for Dolphin.

Seeing a mystery indicator in my task manager

Since the big Plasma upgrade, I'm noticing a number pops up on my task manager. Usually it's a one ("1") and I'll see it if I've got a number of programs running, but I can't figure out what it means for the life of me. KDE Mystery indicator 20180311_193420.png It's not an indication that something'...

Re: Chrome keeps resizing to full screen

I think I may have found the culprit. If I don't roll up my fullscreen Chrome window with the Shade option Chrome seems to be able to remember what size I want the window. If I do I'm stuck at full screen. I'm not 100% certain this is where the bug is but it may help someone verify my bug. Speaking ...

Re: Linux Insider review of SolydK 201801

He also referred to a KDE app called Gnote that's preinstalled. Excuse me? Gnote from KDE? Not with that name, and the KDE text editor's Kate. I'm surprised nobody's posted a comment about his errors. Should I kick it off with the Gnote correction and his error about rolling releases?

Re: I lost WiFi with the latest updates

I did have to compile it but it's working now. Thank you! I think I once again have a really well-working install of SolydK! I was thinking I needed to back everything up and do a clean install, something I was not looking forward to.

Re: I lost WiFi with the latest updates

I should have said there was a kernel update right before the issue started. I'd actually been going back three or four kernels because my system kept locking up. Often I couldn't even get to the home screen before my system locked up, and I'd been meaning to post something about it but never got a ...

[Solved] I lost WiFi with the latest updates

A day or three ago I got updates to SolydK and took them, and after I shut down my computer and rebooted the next day I discovered that I no longer have WiFi, only my wired network connection. $ inxi -FNzxx System: Host: solydpengteh Kernel: 4.9.0-6-amd64 x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 6.3.0) Desktop: KDE Plas...

Chrome keeps resizing to full screen

Since I ran the in-place upgrade recently and ever since then I find that after running Google Chrome in maximized mode for several hours, if I try to un-maximize the window stays maximized until I manually resize it. This happens on a daily basis, sometimes multiple times in a day, because I have C...

Re: DVD won't play

I just grabbed some DVDs from my local library and tried to play them but had issues like the OP. I tried a known good DVD that worked a month or so ago and got the same issue. WHGen I try toplay a DVD in VLC I get this Playback failure: DVDRead could not open the disc "/dev/sr0". Your input can't b...

I just installed Firefox, and Fx-ESR was removed. It's okay by me, but I'm glad to see users have the choice of which one to run.

Re: Adobe to update Linux Flash Player

Switching my UA to a browser on Windows results in a DRM error in Firefox, and doing it in Chrome leaves me stuck at the spinner for "Now connecting to your entertainment experience." Unfortunately they don't give any error information in Chrome to help me track down where it's failing. I get the f...

Re: Adobe to update Linux Flash Player

I may do that. Unfortunately, they get pretty adamant about not supporting Linux. I suspect it's as much about not knowing how mainstream Linux has gotten as it is about the widely held misbelief that only black hat hackers and thieves use Linux.

Re: Adobe to update Linux Flash Player

I don't know xfinity but I know that other tv sites - notably netflix - not only check the flash version but also the browser identification. I f the browser says "... linux ...." they switch to their standard error message which says something about silverlight/flash. It might be worth a try to ch...

Re: Adobe to update Linux Flash Player

For testing, I've manually built a package of the beta 24 version for amd64 only. Just append "testing" to the solydxk.nl line in your sources file as described here: https://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?t=6636 and install the package: apt update; apt install solydxk-flashplugin This will remove...

Re: Adobe to update Linux Flash Player

For Flash Player releases after 11.2, the Flash Player browser plug-in for Linux will only be available via the "Pepper" API as part of the Google Chrome browser distribution and will no longer be available as a direct download from Adobe if I understand it correctly, the one in the link I gave abo...

Re: Adobe to update Linux Flash Player

There appears to be some confusion in this thread. The original posting - and maybe also BostonPeng's and patzy's - was about the newer flash version (23/24). This is currently still in beta . Installing it would be a matter of downloading the tarball, extracting the libflashplayer.so file and plac...
