Re: Google inc to Google llc error

I muddled around with this quite a while and finally got it working with this command.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get --allow-releaseinfo-change update

Help with DVD playback

Can anyone help me with why I can't play some DVDs but others work fine? Some of the DVD's that my children use for home schooling won't play on Solydx (both stable & testing) but others do. They all play fine from a Windows 7 virtual box, though. In VLC the copyright notice plays fine, then the men...

[Solved]Problems on resume from suspend

A month or so ago, I decided I wanted to upgrade my Lenovo Yoga 2 11" laptop to testing. I know that the best way to do this is to reinstall, but I decided to at least first take a chance on changing my apt sources and doing a dist-upgrade first. This was successful except for one common but intermi...

Re: very slow boot--start job stuck

Thank you so much for the advice about not sharing /home/user and /swap. I don't plan to use the other distro. I guess I just got an "itchy foot" and wanted to see what LXQt was like. XFCE has become so familiar that I just can't get along with any other UI. Any advice about how to fix this permanen...

very slow boot--start job stuck

Help! My computer boots VERY slow because of a start job that takes 90 seconds to time-out. I think this started after I installed Debian LXQt on another partition, but I'm not sure. Debian and SolydX share the swap partition and /home. When it's booting I'm seeing this: A start job is running for d...

Re: USB drive doesn't mount or show up in GUI

I never found a solution to this. I eventually formatted the USB drive on another computer. Now it works fine.

USB drive doesn't mount or show up in GUI

I'm running SolydX EE. Everything is up to date and working fine except for the USB thumb drive that I used to install SolydX. When I plug it in, it doesn't show up in Thunar so that I can mount it. It works fine on other computers, and I can also mount it from a terminal. Other USB drives work as e...

Re: Evince segmentation fault [PARTIALLY SOLVED]

Ok, it seems I was "barking up the wrong tree." After reading @mhwelsh's last post, I tried opening older pdf files. Presto! No problems. Evince works fine. It only chokes on files that I created after the last update, and not even all those files have a problem. Specifically it seems to be files th...

Re: Evince segmentation fault

Thanks again for help. @Schoelje: When I run $ apt policy ghostscript imagemagick enscript The output is the same as what you show. If I do this: $ mv gvfs-metadata bak.gvfs-metadata $ mv recently-used.xbel bak.recently-used.xbel $ evince Evince starts ok, but crashes immediately when I try to open ...

Re: Evince segmentation fault

Thank you for the VERY quick reply on a Sunday evening. I have moved both defaults.list and mimeapps.list, and copied the one from /etc/skel. This gets rid of the GLib-GIO-WARNING, but I still get:

Code: Select all

$ evince
invalidaccess -7
Segmentation fault

Evince segmentation fault [PARTIALLY SOLVED]

Hi. I've been using SolydX for several years and loving it. This morning I found that Evince won't open. A window opens for a split second with something in it, but I can't see the contents. Terminal gives this output: (evince:11662): GLib-GIO-WARNING **: /home/glenn/.local/share/applications/defaul...

Re: Unison won't create profile [Solved]

Thanks @belze. I should mention that this problem was eventually fixed and oxygen (and any other themes that I have tried recently) seem to work fine with Unison-gtk. It was problem with how Unison interacted with gtk3 that seems to have been solved.

Re: xiphos broken

Today I had a chance to study this problem a little more. I came acrossed http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=119049 on the Debian User Forums that I hadn't seen before. The problem is indeed with Gtk3, and on the 3rd page there is a link to a deb that is compiled with Gtk2 instead of 3. T...

Re: xiphos broken

Thanks, everyone for your help and advice. The link that grizzler posted helps me understand the problem, and it appears that someone is working on it, or is at least aware of the problem. Since there are at least two missing dependencies, a deb from the developer won't help too much probably. For t...

xiphos broken [partially solved]

Hi, I like http://xiphos.org/ for Bible reading and study. Unfortunately the current version (3.2.2) on Debian stable (also Testing and Sid) is partly broken. For example the Preferences dialog won't open, I can't insert links in the test editor, etc. This issue is a well documented problem related ...

This solution also worked for me even though my problem was completely unrelated to gWaei.

Re: XFCE Power Manager--screen won't unblank [solved]

Just a quick update in case anyone else ever has this problem: Light-locker did solve the problem, but my laptop wouldn't go to sleep if I left it for a certain amount of time. I would come back to find it asking for the root password to allow suspend. I followed advice from this blog. http://winaer...
