Re: Dolphin is slow to show files and folders

There are some errors documented in both files. I'm looking for file-system-related things first. jun 03 18:59:50 solydxk blkmapd[285]: open pipe file /run/rpc_pipefs/nfs/blocklayout failed: No such file or directory jun 03 18:59:51 solydxk nfsdcltrack[668]: Failed to init database: -13 jun 03 19:00...

Re: Dolphin is slow to show files and folders

Something slows the system down. It's not necessarily dolphin. Is any other program running? Additionally to what Arjen recommended you could open htop or top while it happens and see whether any other process is taking cpu or memory..I would also check the ~/.xsession-errors file to see if anything...

Re: xfce4-statusnotifier-plugin needs to be installed and placed into the panel

I removed clipman because it interferes with inkscapes copy&paste but I forgot to check for networkmanagers notifications. Sorry about that. Everything else moved into the new applet. We can have both, people say they don't interfere. Main issue was to get those electron-based chat apps working agai...

xfce4-statusnotifier-plugin needs to be installed and placed into the panel

Since chromium recently changed their way of handling tray icons, electron apps won't show tray items on the xfce panel. There are a lot of issues about the problems on different desktops (all except KDE) all over github starting with electron v. 8 https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/21445#i...

Re: Synaptic problem reloading package info

And if you decide to update Firefox from Mozilla, put everything into /opt. Nothing goes into /etc.

Arjen: 201701 iso doesn't sound right for wheezy. Probably 201201? I'm just mentioning this so nobody is mistaken aubout the support period.

Intermittent server problems

Our provider is struggling with infrastructure problems. Website, forums and repository might be down. There is nothing we can do about that. Please try again a bit later. They have promised to work on it.

Re: AMD graphics: radeon, amdgpu, amdgpu-pro

The cron job doesn't need to be run daily for the old kernels. https://cateee.net/sources/lkddb/ doesn't seem to have updates for old kernels anyway. Maybe there aren't any, Giacomo Catenazzi also just runs scripts to compile the lists. Lists for new kernels change on a daily basis though. I think s...

Re: Firefox Security Misconfiguration (Security Hole)

There's one other aspect: If we want to keep uniqueness of our browsers low, we should keep the browser config as near to default as much as possible. Every config change increases tracking. So after some consideration I agree with kurotsugi: leave it as it is.

Re: Firefox Security Misconfiguration (Security Hole)

No idea why https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=665859 is still undecided. https://www.ssllabs.com/ssl-pulse/ shows that only 0,3% of sites nowadays use insecure renegotiation, so we could include that setting in our firefox/waterfox config. Personally, I have it for more than 2 years and r...

Re: Group SolydXK on Matrix/Riot

As far as Riot/Matrix clients on SolydXK go, I recommend using the web interface with chromium. Don't use that chromium profile for anything else except other trustworthy logins. Don't let any addon change browser user agent (matrix uses that as device identifier) and don't clear website data, cooki...

Re: Improving DNS security and privacy and upcoming firefox/waterfox changes

I'm really not fond of the mitm way cloudflare is monopolizing web traffic but their DNS resolver mostly passed auditing: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/cloudflares-1111-dns-passes-privacy-audit-some-issues-found/. Auditor was KPMG. With these kind of auditing company you can expect ...

Re: Spyware in SolydK

Well, I'm using SolydX and I know why. It's either a plain system that just works - or its a system with bells and whistles and whatever stuff is deemed necessary to provide those bells and whistles. It's YOUR choice. Don't use a system with KDE if you don't like their policy. Anyway, as far as I kn...

Re: Spyware in SolydK

I don't know of any spyware in SolydXK images. We would immediately remove whatever component that is responsible. We also try to the best of our knowledge to deliver a system image with all telemetry switched off. That's why we have configuration packages for Firefox. But we can't say anything abou...

Re: Good open source C projects?

I think for starting out it's easier with the Arduino or ESP or similar. There's only a limited amount of memory you have to manage and you can see satisfying results with not a lot of code. No steep learning curve, no big investments needed - neither time nor money (just have a look at aliexpress.c...

Re: Good open source C projects?

There are a lot of interesting projects using ESP32 or similar chips to help elderly, handicapped or ill people. Like this one https://forum.iot-usergroup.de/c/slo/projekte (which sadly only communicates in german). The ESP32 is well loved by the community because it has WLAN onboard. It's programme...
