Re: [Solved] How to install Libreoffice 6.1 from debian backports

Flatpak and snap will always carry ALL needed dependencies. That can very very well be the whole KDE/GNOME desktop in every thinkable version. Whatever the developer thinks is needed. Or whatever he wants you to have. Or whatever malware anybody else injected. Getting software from repositories is o...

Re: Solydxk-system hangs indefinitely on the orange splash screen

Could it be that using the updated solydxk-system package needs a reboot? It looks as if I still used the old version yesterday. Today the pen drive got mounted only after I checked encryption which is correct. The USB hdd got mounted at startup, which I personally don't like but which is probably t...

Re: Solydxk-system hangs indefinitely on the orange splash screen

ConnectionBus: must be 'usb' Removable: must be True SortKey: must contain 'hotplug' I've seen that. I can find and read codeblocks now but I'm still having a real hard time figuring out how everything works together. I haven't done anything longer than maybe 300 lines. I would have expected code l...

Re: SolydX 201902 review on distrowatch

A very thorough review, listing several issues which I always filed away under "yeah, well, let's deal" or "let's hope for buster" ... I'll try to make a list when I have more time.

Re: Solydxk-system hangs indefinitely on the orange splash screen

I'll test. - Edit: I'm unable to produce the error. Looks good. Why do you need the partition size of USB media for fstab? Removable media should not be mounted via fstab anyway but via the appropriate processes. Isn't there a way to mount everything but USB? Even temporary read only mounting of pen...

Re: Solydxk-system hangs indefinitely on the orange splash screen

It started ok 2x with and without nosplash and hangs again on the 3. start (from terminal). After some minutes I entered ctrl-c and after some seconds the SolydXK Systemsettings screen came up. I think after those gtk messages (as posted in the output above) the program analyzes the disks and someth...

Will synaptic get removed on installed EE systems? I've put synaptic on hold for now. Do I need to change anything tp point its origin to the solydx repo?

Re: Community ISO maintenance and build issues - 2

@grizzler @arjen did you notice that synaptic was removed from buster apparently because of incompatibility with wayland? Obviously the gnome people don't even know or care that XFCE exists  . Could you chime in on the debian bug https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=818366 ? The p...

Re: Update manager - some remarks

Problems with the update manager need to be reported upstream here: https://github.com/hughsie/PackageKit . Have a look at the file fr.po in the directory named "po". If the correct translations are already there we'll get them with the next Debian upgrade in summer. Click twice: yeah me too. I got ...

Re: NordVPN Indicator

Just always remember that by using a VPN you have to trust the vpn provider and the government that reigns him instead of your local internet provider and the government that reigns him. It's a trade-off and whether thats good or bad depends on your local situation.

Re: Python 3.6 on SolydXK

Thanks for answering. It's a really bad point in time because I had planned the update to buster anyway but lack time just now ... no time for any updating risks and no time for compiling, so I think I will code without f-strings and replace them later and test on some friends windows system. Stupid...

Python 3.6 on SolydXK

Does anybody know a quick way to install python >= 3.6 on SolydXK? Has anybody tried the package in testing? I'm really not fond of learning how to install it from source - I need to finish a project until Sunday and it seems that the starting code I have to use doesn't run under 3.5 cause of the f-...

I can't reproduce this with FF52ESR and FF56. The default browser option in Firefox's setting works without problems. I don't have anything further installed, I'm sorry.

Never login as root. Never ever. Not even on a server. Get root privileges after login. That's what sudo is for.

Re: SUDO issue

Nobody can give any advice unless you post what you tried to do - exactly, that is. System specs might not matter in this case but the commands you used and the output. Or did you use a GUI - in which case, what GUI and how did you start it?

Re: March's configuration changes

The change was about Dolphin, when used with "pkexec" - which is mainly used when an application needs elevated privileges. So you might see errors or missing stuff (no icons? I'm not on KDE) when using dolphin with root privileges and you should apply the change. So "might want to" = polite version...

Re: Keeping the operating system updated.

Well - not. You should frequent the forum from time to time but generally nothing serious will happen if you don't. But you should definitely have a look at the forum around June/July this year because important update information might come up.
