Re: xfce 4.14
Regarding that recommendation I can add that to my experience Steven Pusser is good at creating repositories for debian stable. He has a good reputation in the Linux community. Still on your own risk but if you have time to try it, please report back about your experience.

Re: Problems with gpg & kgpg encryption (symmetric)
There's a button for code above the edit window or you could manually insert code tags in these brackets <>. Your gpg.conf is obviously old. There's nothing in it anyway. Except this line: keyserver hkp://keys.gnupg.net which has to go for security reasons, you should remove/out-comment it. There's ...

Re: Problem with boot system after upgrade with script
It does not help when you do that on the live system. You need to either boot into the installed system using the grub console and then enter the commands or start the live system and change root into the installed one as explained in the tutorial.

Re: 4k Monitor: is it supported from my laptops?
Really depends on the type of game so one can't say in general. But 4k is a lot more pixel no matter what you do with them. More pixel = more calculation needed = more power consumption - something you don't want to have in a typical laptop. You might get it to work with the radeon card but neither ...

Re: 4k Monitor: is it supported from my laptops?
To use 4k really needs a lot of graphic power which laptops just don't have. One of those cheap mini pcs made as TV stations can have that power. Or a ryzen 3 xxxxG.

Re: Problems with gpg & kgpg encryption (symmetric)
I'm not using gpg. So to recreate what you were doing I'd need to know exactly what you were doing. Please post the commands. And please also post your gpg.conf. We had changes to gpg.conf just some months ago so I'm wondering why it's from 2015. Is this an old system or a new SolydK10 install?

Re: Problem with boot system after upgrade with script
First check the EFI partition type (needs to be FAT32). If that is correct, grub might be pointing to a non-existing grubx64.efi (because the directory it is in has a wrong name) or to a non-existing root partition. There was a problem we fixed like 8 month ago (https://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic....

Re: 4k Monitor: is it supported from my laptops?
I don't know much about 4k and was confused about naming conventions. This https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4K_resolution cleared it up for me. https://www.amd.com/en/products/specifications/graphics says no 4k with hdmi. I couldn't find anything specific to your Radeon card with dp. (I've read somewhe...

Re: (Solved)Missing toolbar buttons in some apps
Regarding URL: I'm using the button next to the font selector but it's not blue - mine are all b/w. Looks like a chain. Anyway, no "b" in there for me ... just Edit: Ah that one. Ok, that one's blue. Never noticed it maybe because it's blue? - Found the mistake. You use the blue bu...

Re: Missing toolbar buttons in some apps
First thing I'd try is choose another theme in Settings - Window administration (?) and see what happens. Also check the settings on the right side: It is possible to remove the buttons. Be aware that the chosen theme interacts with your choices in Settings - Appearance. You might have to logout and...

Re: Install Fail - Where & How to put Grub?
Grub : The installer starts up with sensible defaults. Leave grub where it is and don't choose any of those options. There is another option (which is checked by default) at the top which is the right one - on disk. This is easily overlooked - @Arjen: if you feel like it, there's room for improveme...

Re: google's camera security threat
It seems that at least Google had a fix rather quickly. Problem is that all the proprietary branded forks might never be patched and the user is unable to do anything about it. If that poc malicious app had been open source it would not have gone unnoticed. As we all know, if you don't control your ...

Re: KDE Failed in Solydxk 10 buster
You cannot start firefox as root because that is a severe security risk and there are provisions in place to stop you from doing this by mistake. Your main problem seems to be lack of (disk or memory) space. Since we don't know how you organized your system, boot into your system and login as root l...

What is a good system to replace Windows 7 when support ends in 2020
SolydXK is. For several good reasons and I think it would be great if some of the users who also know Win7 could write up why. Come on!
1. Menu structure is very similar to classic view - at least that's what I used last on Win7 because it looked like WinXP

Re: Search engine alternatives to startpage
yacy : For the purposes of this forum I'm not considering anything self-hosted. Yacy requires the user to run a publicly accessible service on their machine. This is something I'm not going to recommend to anybody. Ever. I'm running public servers but I'm not going to do that on my desktop. Never e...

Re: Search engine alternatives to startpage
I've moved the search engine topic to a separate thread to keep the other thread as a to do list. One general remark: I think every search engine and every website owner stores IP addresses for a certain period (default on debian is a week) for technical reasons. A reason why I would never use a sta...

cups-pdf file names
Since I started using LibreOffice lately I found an annoying issue: When printing to pdf, the output file gets named <document file name>__non-Linux-generated_files.pdf or some part thereof. Falkon browser does the same. That's a really stupid file name extension especially since its completely untr...
