Re: Testing ISOs 201901

I've tried to bring the test document into a more easily readable form. Not particularly beautiful but does the job. Maybe you could consider to replace it @Arjen.

Re: Testing ISOs 201901

General: The testcases file makes things unnecessarily hard for testers. Comparing expected results in 8 pt. mouseovers with the output on a monitor sitting behind you is impossible. This leads to unreliable results - and demotivation, honestly. SolydX install on metal (AMD APU) with encryption and ...

Re: Partition boot screen does not show up

You shouldn't edit the grub configuration manually. Have you tried update-grub yet? Sorry I did not mention that earlier. And of course you can reinstall grub. Arjen has a guide here: https://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7402&p=69202 . Since you can still boot, it should only be grub-insta...

Re: Shrink Windows partition

Mine is Win 10. I found out what to do to get rid of the locked files: deactivate hibernation, system protection, pagefile and kernel dump. Here's adetailed walkthrough for Win 8: https://www.download3k.com/articles/How-to-shrink-a-disk-volume-beyond-the-point-where-any-unmovable-files-are-located-0...

Shrink Windows partition

I'm trying to shrink a Windows partition to its absolute minimum. Grizzler once recommended Ultradefrag but it made the situation worse because it moved everything to the partitions end. Now there are "locked files" at the end of the partition which I can't move. Even running Ultradefrag during boot...

Re: Guide to installing for beginners?

The thing you need to figure out for your hardware is how to boot into an DVD or USB pendrive (depends on what medium you put SplydX on). That can be tricky sometimes but you'll need guides/help for your specific hardware which only people can provide who have that particular hardware. So best check...

Re: Partition boot screen does not show up

You still did not say what is on the partitions you want to boot. I'ts all Linux but which distro is where? Which one was installed first? EFI or BIOS? Anyway, I can already see a problem: sda is of DOS type and has a BIOS install. sdb is of GPT type and probably has an EFI install but the EFI parti...

Re: XFCE crashes after LTSP install

KDE loads several processes (like akonadi) into memory which are of no use but just clog your system. That's why I recommend reinstall.

Re: Partition boot screen does not show up

Nobody can help you if you don't give any information. Which partition contains what? At least include the output of fdisk -l.

Re: XFCE crashes after LTSP install

Is the hardware up to the task? Well, this is a home office with ... one or two older laptops now as thin clients ... Please forget about that question, I was imagining several dozens or a classroom because you talked about a package called education. Looking at the history.log I can indeed see the...

Re: XFCE crashes after LTSP install

Backup your data NOW. Don't deinstall random stuff. Use your least mistrusted search engine first. You can see which packages where installed lately very easily if you used synaptic - [files/history] shows all packages neatly sorted. If you used apt you might be out of luck if you did not change th...

Re: Thunderbird 60.3.1 (64-bit) doesn't open hyperlinks

Deactivating the profile is probably not the best solution but we don't have the resources to fix this problem. We'll have to wait for debian to work out a solution. To help getting there please have a look at https://wiki.debian.org/AppArmor/Reportbug and provide the output of sudo journalctl -kaf ...

Re: Two monitor issues

You are on SolydX, right? (Please always mention this, I can't always remember.) I don't use conky so I can't support you but - in case anybody else knows more - I think a picture would be good or a drawing. You've described the situation but I'd need to make a drawing to understand it :-).

Re: Menu Libre - Games section does not appear

I can see the games section in whisker - which ISO did you install from? And the config should be somewhere under ~/.config as xml file ... I'll search tomorrow. If you find the file, post it. Maybe we can compare.

Re: Menu Libre - Games section does not appear

I'm not sure what exactly your problem is. The xfce menu is whiskermenu. Menulibre is an editor for whiskermenu. So "games" doesn't show up in whiskermenu? Or you can't edit "games" in menulibre?

So waterfox thankfully has made it in our repositories.

I've edited the opening post to add Librefox, a work in progress, which very much sounds like my personal dream.

Re: Testing ISOs 201901

I really hate the Mozilla default configuration. Solydxk had a nice setup to start with. I don't think that removing these settings from the adjustments packages is a good idea. The good thing about SolydXK was that you had almost no post-installation work. A better solution would be to move the adj...

Re: Latest update forces t-bird & firefox

I did not know that you also have synaptic on SolyDK (ups you said it, sorry). But yes, that's the easiest way. Switching that synaptic option off is the first thing I do on every new install. That being said, I forgot it on the last one - grrr - I really need my own custom post-installation script....
