Securing repository binaries

I've just read https://netzpolitik.org/2020/staatstrojaner-provider-sollen-internetverkehr-umleiten-damit-geheimdienste-hacken-koennen/ - sorry only in german. No need to read it - the article is discussing Finfisher and similar technics and their implementation on provider level to place malware in...

Re: SolydK10 installation failing on computer with multiple drives

Sadly the picture is such a low resolution that I'm not able to read all of the message. But it tell us, that python had to stop executing the installer because a needed data entry is missing. This entry should have been provided by parted which for some reason did not happen. When you called parted...

Re: SolydK10 installation failing on computer with multiple drives

I think that's two separate errors. The installer should not fail with an exception if it doesn't find a usable partition. It should fail gracefully. I think there's an uncaught exception. But that is Arjens turf and not really relevant to your problem. The installer does not do its own magic but us...

Re: SolydK10 installation failing on computer with multiple drives

I overlooked the link to the screenshot you posted in your first post and I can neither read nor download it from that site. You can upload screenshots here in this forum, there's a tab called "attachments" under the editor window. Does the installer offer a "Something else" option when it comes to ...

Re: SolydK10 installation failing on computer with multiple drives

Well it does not seem to be fixed, we'd need to know the exact problem first. Nobody else has reported this behaviour as far as I remember. Obviously the installer sees something on your data drives it does not recognise. So we want to know why. Since you say they are EXT4 Windowws can't have anythi...

Re: Last Update with new kernal failed to boot

cat: /etc/X11/xsession: No such file or directory yeah, sorry - forgot that you are on a live system. You have to adapt the path to wherever you mounted root. Gparted says I have 540 MIB left. On which partition? You've got two, root and home! Please! Well, no matter where, that's not much. Even if...

Re: Last Update with new kernal failed to boot

You can use the terminal:

Code: Select all

cat /etc/X11/xsession
And gparted from the live disk menu will show you the free space, easier than df.

Re: Last Update with new kernal failed to boot

That is not the content of /etc/X11/xsession, I think you ran the file instead of doing cat /etc/X11/xsession - It should be a config file that contains a setting like "ERRFILE=$HOME/.xsession-errors" - which I'm interested in because I thought maybe you ran out of space. Your df -h output looks lik...

Re: Last Update with new kernal failed to boot

To check that xsession error please print the content of your /etc/fstab file. Please also print the content of /etc/X11/xsession. Use df -h on the HDD partition /tmp is on. Just to get this error out of the way. About the other errors there is not enough information for me to say anything. But if a...

Re: USB Creator

Do you remember USB Creator having this nifty "repair" button? What command was behind it? Do you still have an old version lying around that has the repair function? I wanted to test the new ISO but I managed to totally mess up my boot pen drive.

What exactly did it say? That would have been the relevant part of the output. But never mind if everything works now.

Re: Mounting .xsession-errors in tmp

You should not need to do anything to tame .xsession-errors because the script I mentioned does that for you. The file will not get out of control even if it is flooded with error messages by a program that goes bonkers. If you move. xsession-errors to another location you just need to change the sc...

Re: Lightdm locker/greeter problem - laptop not waking up

The user can decide after installation. We need a solution DURING installation. We can't expect the user to hit a key every 3 minutes to prevent the system/screen from going comatose. If that codeblock works to keep the device awake during install, I'm all for it - I just dont have a device to test ...

Re: Mounting .xsession-errors in tmp

No, I'm sure it's not overwritten. The variable "LOG" is used inside the script only and has nothing to do with the variable ERRFILE. I tested with and without the script.

https://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7811 would see it I suppose. This is the exact error (although on bullseye/sid): https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=946903. Here's some explanation about a problem with permissions as possible reason: https://askubuntu.com/questions/74156...

Re: Mounting .xsession-errors in tmp

I used to move it successfully into /var/log in exactly the way you did in SolydXK9. I could not get that to work in SolydXK10 either. I remember I tried for hours but I don't remember details anymore. I'm positive that we did not change anything relevant in between SolydXK9 and SolydXK10. It just s...
