Re: SolydXK 10 Preview and Testing

I'm seeing the same issue with the update indicator on a May image VM. Missing conf file maybe? Can't check the June image install at the moment.

Re: SolydXK 10 Preview and Testing

Root size: After using stretch for 2 years I ended up with about 13 GB. Jessie was only 10 GB. And I'm never installing recommends. So there seems to be a slight upwards tendency. Running out of space on root is bad and modern disks are reasonably big, so I'd think 20 or 30 GB maybe? The 2nd HDD end...

Re: SolydXK 10 Preview and Testing

I just installed on an older computer, non EFI. Both HDDs were empty to start with. Boot stick was created with USB creator - as usual install on the stick hang and I had to do a repair run on the stick. Bootup went without problem (after convincing the mainboard to see the stick). 1. background ima...

Re: apt: command not found (!..)

After ctrl-o you have to hit enter to confirm the "File Name to Write". It then says "file saved" or something similar. Then ctrl-x to leave. It's not really intuitive to use but its still the best from the editors usuable under terminal. On a different note: You probably learn quite a lot while try...

Re: unwanted bold font in Firefox ESR

No. I'm really busy and since the bold stuff started - as far as I remember - with me zooming on application and system level I just leave it at that. I'm sorry. Don't forget to check system settings.

Re: Upstream in /opt

lintian bugs me with the message that installing in /opt is discouraged I think that is because lintian checks packages from debians point of view: if it's a debian package for debian systems it should not be in /opt. But our situation is different because we are not debian itself but a derivative....

Re: unwanted bold font in Firefox ESR

It's starts at 130% for me on python.org, not on 100%. Different Browsers have different rendering engines and we can't change that. Websites can set their own fonts but the websites we discussed don't set valid fonts for Linux so it's back to the default which is DejaVu. You can try to change to an...

Re: unwanted bold font in Firefox ESR

yes. Not on this forum but on wikipedia I can see a change to bold at 120%. On all Fire/Waterfoxes, including a nightly version without addons and without any configuration. No idea whether that's caused by wikipedia, by firefox or by system settings. Too many factors involved to debug. I just accep...

Re: Firefox/waterfox and DoH - what default to choose?

I'm not sure about dnscrypt but I think it's an implementation of the same technique (DoH or DoT) but at system level instead of application level. I've read some caveat about dnscrypt too (uses unorthodox stuff and no audit). Stubby seems to do the same. It would certainly be better to keep DNS rev...

Re: unwanted bold font in Firefox ESR

I'm still at Firefox-ESR 60.5 with adjustments but I can't reproduce this unless I'm at 120% zoom - which you are probably not. So no idea.

Re: apt: command not found (!..)

Please stop full-quoting ecerything Arjen posts unless the quote is really necessary. I will edit some of your previous post so that you can see what I mean. Things get so much easier to read! Just post what YOU do in your terminal. Your output doesn't make any sense. What did you do to get that out...

Re: Solydx Firefox Adjustments cause problems with some sites

- fullscreen mode on Youtube and any other video stream would show a white rectangle instead of the top 20% (or was it the bottom, I don't remember) of the picture. Controls were missing in full screen (volume, search bar, stream quality etc.). Only way to get from full screen was to press Esc/F11....

I'm told there is a channel #packaging available on irc.oftc.net for help which is available for debian derivatives. Just in case.

Re: Firefox/waterfox and DoH - what default to choose?

The setting is exposed in about:config and Mozilla does not intend to change that. FF nightly has a GUI interface under network settings. So the user is free to choose another DoH provider or none at all. But most users will not change the default. I do get that it should impact on the issue of mitm...

Re: apt: command not found (!..)

There is no command apt sync . Did you want to do apt update ? Please try again the commands Arjen told you. But now with english output. export LC_ALL=C sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/info/solydk-system-adjustments-8.* /tmp/ sudo dpkg --remove --force-remove-reinstreq solydk-system-adjustments-8 apt update ...

Re: Waterfox source

Aren't .so files binaries? Why would they need to be in a source package? No idea if that helps - a debian guy tells me: "I actually looked at packaging Waterfox -- the upstream tarball has precompiled stuff; there's a github repo but upstream doesn't seem to share whatever his build system is." If ...

Re: systemd internal default resolver might leak to Google

If I say "we" and "us" I mean the team not the user. We should not be "without technical knowledge" - hopefully  If resolve fails during testing we notice (as long as systemd doesn't interfere) and configure it correctly without affecting anybody but maybe EE folks. And yeah, we agree on "e...

Re: Solydx Firefox Adjustments cause problems with some sites

But the "Bad HTTP_REFERER" stuff was not gmx right? If you tell me the site I could investigate. The error message points to that forum software not being set up correctly which might lead to problems if the browser has tighter security settings. Referrers are a similar thing to cookies: you general...

Re: Firefox/waterfox and DoH - what default to choose?

I just found this list: https://github.com/curl/curl/wiki/DNS-over-HTTPS#publicly-available-servers If DOH is not centralized and there's a choice of providers and we pick one from that choice instead of the firefox default, half the arguments against DoH go away. Con arguments that remain are: - DN...

Re: Firefox/waterfox and DNSSEC - what default to choose?

I was just collecting arguments. This collection has absolutely nothing to do with my personal opinion or any opinion at all. To be honest I feel torn about it. I see both sides. And I'm really hoping more DoH providers will enter the game. yes, no more blocking anything via host files or pihole DoH...
