Re: Trouble encountered with KDE taskbar leads to 2 questions

Regarding panel: Ther should be an option to remove the panel at the same spot where you added it. Look around, I'm sure it's there. Since I'm using XFCE I can't tell you where exactly. Regarding okular: You should be able to start okula from the menu or - if its set as standard - just by double cli...

Re: 'system-config-printer' fails to setup one

This is not a common printer - sorry, no idea. Their site says the driver supports Debian 7.1 - all other supported Linux systems are ancient as well. You should check that with Xerox support.

Re: Latest Waterfox Classic and SolydX 9

Thank you for your report. This seems to be a known issue: https://github.com/MrAlex94/Waterfox/issues/1128#issuecomment-573793752 for Ubuntu 18.10. It would help if you reported it on Github for Debian9. It's probably the same for Debian10. I'm still at 1912 and I'll hold off updating. Arjen, could...

Re: Don't start after install a blu-ray player

There might be some incompatibility of AHCI BIOS, kernel and driver. If you search for the error messages you get a ton of hardware-related problems, from bad power supply to "update mainboard bios" to "just ignore it". Diagnostics need physical access to the machine, nothing I can help you with fro...

Re: 'system-config-printer' fails to setup one

First of all: Which type of printer? Most printers need proprietary code which we can't deliver. So printers usually need some investigation before setup will work. Some printers - where the manufacturer doesn't provide linux drivers - will never work. Same for other peripherals. Business models alm...

We have purged exim on newer ISOs but of course its still present on older installs. If you don't need it purging is best.

Re: Laptop: dual boot installation with Win 10

Use Win10 to shrink the partition, don't use Linux. You might have problems shrinking it below 470gb. I'm curios about that. No, ntfs is not the best format. You might encounter problems with data integrity. But since there is no ext4 driver for Win10 afaik, you can't use anything else. With Win7 I ...

In XFCE you set the single/double click in settings - desktop - symbols but no idea whether that's the same in KDE.

Re: Frozen desktop with SolydK10

You could try to compare the 2 profiles, see where they differ. Start with the desktop and the .config folder and don't forget to look at permissions too. I have successfully recovered broken profiles in the past by selectively copying from a working backup. That was XFCE though. I've had weird resu...

Re: Frozen desktop with SolydK10

I have installed a new program which should place an icon on the desktop, which it doesn't do now. In the folder ~/Desktop a new item appears with a wrong picture, a wrong name but with the extension .desktop. It is not shown on the desktop itself, which is set to Folder view. I don't understand th...

Re: Install Java JDK and Set Environment Variables

Re: HDD degraded performance and SMART not working

The smartmontools message is bogus for "kernel, device and me don't understand each other". The kernel log shows that the SMART command on ATA05 was aborted by the driver with "timeout". Then the driver tries to reset the device. Why it's doing this I don't know. There have been reports of smartmont...

Re: SolydXK 10 update script for 32bit CE

You might be better off staying with SolydX9 if at all possible ... I can't give you a valid reason, just gut feeling. Debian9 will get support until 2022.

If you upgrade please tell me whether my gut was right or wrong!

Re: SolydXK 10 update script for 32bit CE

Probably not. I don't think grizzler will invest time into a system that is rarely used any more. As you can see here: https://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=7015&p=69934. I'm wondering why he hasn't published the promised last 32bit ISO yet though ... you can download it from https://downl...

After using it for several weeks now I can confirm that all instances of searx are unsuitable for the average user. I'm switching to metager now to see how it works out. Why do you think synaptic might improve the quality of my life ? What will it do that APT won't ? Nothing really. SynAPTic is just a graphical interface for apt. 1. Re: Dual monitor apps opening in wrong monitor

My login screen comes up on the right monitor too but it follows my mouse. Moving the mouse left will move the login left. Please check dpkg -l *randr* to see what is installed. I used to use arandr and that did not work. You could try calling xrandr instead of whatever the settings do. No idea what...
